Seeing people talking about canceling streaming services etc, and y'all, I will honor any asks from the union, but I'm not pre-emptively giving up shit. Also, it's always best to take your cues from the workers on this stuff. Their asks & strategies are cultivated with intention.
I mean, if you're looking for an excuse to watch less TV, I support you. I know I should prob swap out some of my screen time for reading time. But I love television and there's a whole pandemic thing happening, so TV and me are gonna stay tight for now.
But seriously, when acting in solidarity with workers, it's best to follow their lead. They are flexing their worker power. Us abiding by their asks helps demonstrate that power.
Honoring those asks is important, because solidarity is important. But ultimately, we're all drops in a bucket, streaming wise. The power that matters is the power potentially being exercised -- workers withholding their labor.

Well, y'all won. I read Who's the Bad Art Friend? Yikes...
It's my day off, so I apparently had time to spend on... that. 😂
In one of my creative writing classes in college, going somewhere public, eavesdropping, making notes, and then writing a story around whatever you had jotted down was literally an assignment we were given. It's part of the craft. That may be fucked up, but it's true.
The fact that there's a feud between Chicago's mayor and top prosecutor because the mayor wants people charged for a gunfight, while the prosecutor says there's no evidence of who did want, should be national news. What the mayor is doing is horrifying.
The mayor of Chicago is demanding a charge them all and let god sort it out approach to criminal justice -- and she's doing it loudly and proudly. This is so dangerous. It should be called out. It should be opposed.
"Even First Deputy Superintendent Brendan Deenihan testified before the city council expressing concerns about the evidence. 'The cameras captured the incident, but not enough to put a gun in someone's hand & not enough to charge someone in the incident'" abc7chicago.com/chicago-shooti…
This week on Movement Memos, I talked with Breanne Palmer, from @UndocuBlack about the Biden administration's treatment of Haitian migrants, and with @KevinHerreraJD about Operation Lone Star, Gov. Abbott's terrifying state-level war on migrants in Texas. truthout.org/audio/trump-is…
Have you heard of Operation Lone Star? Basically, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is implementing his own decidedly unconstitutional version of Trumpism at the state level, and the federal government is letting it happen. Thousands of migrants have been detained. truthout.org/audio/trump-is…
By illegally detaining thousands of migrants, Abbott claims he's doing what Biden refuses to do, even as Biden himself mercilessly deports thousands of asylum seekers, without even taking the time to run COVID tests. truthout.org/audio/trump-is…
I would be crying? Are you serious? If someone followed a member of the Squad into the common area of a bathroom and yelled? A violent mob tried to hunt them down in the halls of Congress. If someone yelled at one of them in a bathroom, I prob wouldn't even hear about it.
And this notion some of you have, that liberals & leftists give tactics "the greenlight," and right-wingers act accordingly, is so bizarre. We are not establishing mutual rules of engagement. The right is out here doing what they will, including trying to overthrow the government
This is very Democratic Party thinking -- that we can't do a thing if we don't want the other side to do that thing, when the other side has been clear it will cause as much damage as possible, regardless what you say or do, under all circumstances, forever.
People who disliked my thread about how it's OK to treat your oppressors in ways that you would not treat other people have repeatedly asked how I feel about January 6. 😂
Bc how can I say it's OK to birddog politicians and not be OK with the fascist overthrow of the government?
Very hypocritical of me, now that you mention it. 😂😂😂
I also have a lot of liberals who have never protested or studied protest explaining to me what's out of bounds bc they have no idea what people really do or have had to do in order to win what rights we do have. This is a tame af moment for left of center protest. Calm down.
It's a tough pill for people to swallow that sometimes it's okay to treat the ruling class -- like, you know, your oppressors -- in ways that you don't think people ought to normally be treated. The same rules cannot apply, bc those rules don't apply to how they treat you.
I think it's okay to subject politicians to a lot of things that I don't think it's okay to do to people in general. As a protester, I've followed political targets around town and disrupted their lives as much as possible. To do this to an everyday person would be unacceptable.
