We’re seeing the Government/Stephen Donnelly undo Sláintcare, the biggest act of
political sabotage of a public health proposal since Fianna Fail and Fine Gael sabotaged Noel Browne’s Mother and Child health care proposals in 1951. 1/8 #sláintecare
The Slaintecare report, published over 4 years ago, called for the Government to
“establish a universal, single tier service where patients are treated on the basis of
health need rather than on ability to pay”
2/8 #sláintecare
The report also called for elimination of private care from public hospitals to create a
single tier system, as well as universal care for GP services, primary care, dental,
maternity, slashing of waiting lists & a mental health budget double the current
level 3/8 #sláintecare
We urgently need all these things, but successive governments have delayed
implementation. And now in recent weeks there has been a wave of resignations
from the Sláintecare advisory council as they see the Minister’s sabotage taking
place 4/8 #sláintecare
The people of this country have had to live with the bitter legacy of FF/FG’s defeat of the Mother & Childcare scheme and the national health service that it would have
created the foundation for 5/8 #sláintecare
And now FF/FG are repeating it 70 years later – they are ensuring that we will not
get the universal, single tier health care system that we desperately need 6/8 #sláintecare
Minister Donnelly’s legacy will be to condemn the people of Ireland to decades more
of a dysfunctional, two-tier system, with systemic underfunding designed to push
those that can afford it into the private system. 7/8 #sláintecare
No more two-tier health care. No more profiteering from people's health needs. We
need the Sláintecare recommendations to be implemented and an all Ireland
National Health Service. 8/8 #sláintecare
