Navratri Diet as per Ayurveda: The first mention of Navratri is in Markandeya Purana, which propagates Durga worship during the 9 nights. Navratris arrive at the time of Ritu Sandhi (Seasonal change). Like the earth is moving from a summer to a winter equinox,
our body also goes into a change to adapt to this seasonal variation and becomes vulnerable to disease.A good diet is important to boost our immunity. So the ancient Indians ushered in the new seasons with a diet that would help them cope with the change. 2/n
The whole structure of the Navratri fast is like a good detox programme. Fasting during this season helps in increasing Jathragni (Digestive fire) & Dhatvagni (Metabolic fire) which burns up all the toxins accumulated in the last six months and prepares a brand new Sharira.3/n
Wheat is considered Guru (heavy) and Kledak (creates mucus). This taxes up the intestine leading to digestion problems.During Navratris, it is advisable to consume Buckwheat/Amaranth/Singhara etc. which are Laghu (light to digest), hot (improves Agni) and helps in digestion. 4/n
Saindhav Namak during Navratri, clears your Sroto avrodh (Energy/ Tissue blockages) and stimulate Agni (Metabolic fire) to help in detoxification.
Like Ghee is used to stimulate Agni in a Yagna, similarly it increases Agni in our stomach leading to better digestion.5/n
All Non veg and Tamasik foods create inertia in digestion and therefore need to be avoided.
People take a lot of Curd during Navratris, Ayurveda advises against this. One should also avoid fermented foods, heavy foods, fried, sour and oily foods during these times. 6/n
Potatoes and Sabudana are rich in Carbohydrates to support energy during fasting but should be only taken in moderation
Anulom Vilom, Pranayama helps in stimulating Agni as well
Jai Ayurved

Embrace of Salvation : In the fall of 1995, two girls, twins, weighing only 2 kilograms, were born prematurely. Brielle and Kyrie Jackson spent their first few weeks of life in special incubators fighting for their lives. 1/4 Image
Kyrie was the stronger twin, thriving and 1.3 kg heavier, while Brielle struggled to survive. At one point, Brielle's breathing became shallow and her heart rate dropped dramatically.

The doctors did everything they could, but simply nothing worked. 2/4
Before it was too late, a nurse got an idea and suggested putting the babies together in one incubator. They had never done something like this before in the US, but something incredible happened.
As soon as Kylie was placed next to her sister, she reached out and hugged Brielle

Starting with the first thread on the importance of Rice in our culture. As usual dedicating to @MumukshuSavitri from whom I learn every day...
The Atharva Veda describes rice as the ‘son of heaven who never die’.
Annadevata, the God of rice, is the first ancestor of sacrifice
Taittiriya Upanishad says that Purusha is formed of rice (anna) and the vital essences (rasa). And that we should not look down on rice; nor neglect rice. He who knows the discipline and glory of rice attains that which he seeks 2/n
According to the Shatapatha Brahmana, rice originated from the marrow or Soma from the body of Indra: ‘In the Mahabharata, Krishna gives Draupadi, an akshaya patra, a bowl that was always full of rice. Rice is a sacred symbol of auspiciousness, wealth, and fertility. 3/n

Sheila donated Rs.5000 to PM/ CM Relief Fund.
On the other hand, Paandu bought a whisky bottle worth Rs 5000/-.

The question is who contributed more?

01. On the Rs 5000 Sheila donated, she got a 30% tax rebate. Therefore, she actually landed up earning back Rs 1500/- 1/3
In other words, by donating Rs 5000 she made a net contribution of just Rs 3500/-.

02. On Alcohol, the total taxes (excise and GST) added up to approximately 72% of the MRP. So when Paandu paid Rs 5000,/-, Rs 3600/- went to the state exchequer...2/4
...and 12.5 pegs of pleasure from a 750 ml whisky bottle 🍷🍷.

Therefore, not only did Paandu contribute more, he created jobs at the Distillery, their suppliers of labels, bottles, caps, machinery etc., jobs at the Marketing Company, jobs at the Wine Shop and 3/4

History of Insurance: Dedicating to @MumukshuSavitri who is an encyclopedia in herself... In 1744, Scotland, Alexander Webster and Robert Wallace, decided to set up a life-insurance fund that would provide pensions for the widows and orphans of dead clergymen. 1/n
They proposed that each of their church’s ministers would pay a part of his income into the fund, which would invest the money. If a minister died, his widow would receive dividends on the profits. The most difficult part was to predict how many clergy men would die each year 2/n
and so how much money would be deducted from their income. So they contacted a Math Prof. Colin Maclaurin whose work was founded on Bernoulli’s Law of Large Numbers. Bernoulli had codified the principle that while it might be difficult to predict with certainty a single event,3/n

Vatsnabh (Vats- for child & Nabh for umbilicus- Roots looks like everted umbilicus) or Aconite is considered one of the the most poisonous plant in the world. It is native to North-East India and Nepal. It is very well spread over Sandakphu mountain in West Bengal. #Ayurveda 1/3
Sandakphu in Tibetean means height of poisonous plant from the fact that shepherds stopped taking their herds to this mountain because of poisoning. No plant grows in its vicinity and there are reports of poisoning in humans by accidental inhalation of its pollen while trekking.
Very evolved and experienced Aghoris smoke this with cannabis to reach an altered consciousness state. In Ayurveda the herb is first purified in cows urine and then used in different medicines to treat Fever, Pain and Arsenic poisoning.3/4
