The 9 day Brahmotsavams of Kaliyuga Sri Maha Vishnu Lord Venkateswara in Tirupathi start today.

Today the events start with the Dhwajarohanam (Hoisting the Lord's flag). Garuda reaches the heavens to invite the gods to the festival.

Technically the festivities have started yesterday with the Ankurarpanam (Initiation ceremony), where Lord Vishwaksena, Venkateswara's trusted attendant and the commander of his armies takes a round of the four mada streets to oversee the preparations.
#Brahmotsavam Image
And every day for these 9 days, Lord Venkateswara would enthrall his devotees by his ceremonial processions in various forms, and atop various celestial vehicles. It is a sight to certainly behold in one's lifetime.
Today evening, the first evening of Brahmotsavam, Lord Srinivasa graces his devotees atop the Pedda Seshavahanam (Large Snake Vehicle). The Seven headed Serpent King. AdiSesha is the most ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, and reserves the honours of day one.

On the fifth morning of Brahmotsavam, Srivaru casts a spell on us as Jaganmohini. Gracefully dressed in a white silk saree, drowned in invaluable jewels, and wearing the surya chandra saveri on his crown, and a parrot in his right hand, he assumes the feminine form of Mohini. ImageImageImage
The entire Universe is Vishnu's Maya. And to liberate us from this myth, Vishnu emerges as Mohini. Accompanying the main palanquin is the idol of Krishna in a wood and ivory palanquin, donated to the temple by the Wodeyars of Mysore. #Brahmotsavam Image
The fifth evening of Brahmotsavam is the most important. Lord Sri Hari appears before us atop his mount, Garuda, the Brahmany kite in the Garuda Seva. He is alone without his consorts for this seva. This is the day which attracts the most pilgrims in the nine days. #Brahmotsavam ImageImageImage
DYK the flowers used for decorating Srinivasa during the Garuda Seva come from Sirivilliputhur Andal Temple, located 650 km away in Southern Tamil Nadu?

A basket full of garlands, toy parrots and a silk saree are sent every year to Tirumala as a gift from his devotee, Andal🙏 ImageImageImage
Today morning, Vishnu appears as Rama sitting atop the Hanumad Vahanam. The celestial bow, Kodanda in his hand, Lord Vishnu graces the Tirumala streets riding Anjaneya
Incidentally, he is woken up daily as "Rama, the son of Kausalya" in the Venkateswara Suprabhatam.

Today evening, Srivaru emerges onto the Tirumala streets riding the Swarna Ratham (Golden Chariot). Flanked by his consorts, Sridevi and Bhudevi. After the Dolotsavam (Swing Festival) in the Ranganayaka mandapam, the chariot procession starts #Brahmotsavam ImageImage
After the Chariot, Malayappa enthralls his devotees as he steps out once again, this time by himself atop the Gajavahanam (Elephant Vehicle). The imagery is not lost. Everyone remembers Gajendramoksha and the special place pachyderms holds for his beloved Lakshmi #Brahmotsavam ImageImage
Today on the seventh morning, Lord Keshava emerges atop the Suryaprabha Vahanam . Chauffeured by the Sun God himself, and driven by seven horses, he graces his devotees wearing a diamond gauntlet.
Visiting Tirumala on this day is supposed to cure all illnesses.
#Brahmotsavam ImageImage
Today evening, Srivaru graces his devotees atop the Chandraprabha Vahanam. The cool evening breeze brings the Moon God himself as the vehicle upon which Lord Vishnu parades in the streets of Tirumala.

#Brahmotsavam ImageImage
Today on the eighth morning, Lord Srinivasa rides around Tirumala streets in the Rathotsavam (Chariot festival). Malayappa flanked by Sridevi and Bhudevi appear in this chariot, which is ceremoniously pulled by the devotees themselves amidst the chants of "Govinda"
#Brahmotsavam ImageImageImage
Today evening, the last day of the processions ends with Lord MahaVishnu riding out holding the reins of a golden horse on the Aswa Vahanam. Kalki, his last avatar shall appear riding a horse and it is fitting that Brahmotsavams end with this avatar.
#Brahmotsavam ImageImage
The final day of Brahmotsavam coincides with Vijayadasami. The Utsava idols of Srinivasa and his consorts along with the Sudarshana Chakra are ceremoniously bathed in a temple tank in the temple premises. And coated with sandal and adorned with holy basil garlands.

We have all heard of the "Navratnas" (Nine Gems) of Akbar's court. Im sure we can name a few from them as well.
But how many of us know of the AshtaDiggajas of Emperor Sri Krishna Devaraya's court at Vijayanagara?

A thread 🧵
The Vijayanagara Empire was among the greatest medieval Hindu Empires of India. Ruled by four successive dynasties- the Sangama, Saluva, Tuluva and Aravidu, it marked the heyday of Indian cultural renaissance. And its greatest Emperor was Tuluva Sri Krishnadevaraya (1509-1529).
Sri Krishnadevaraya was a king who never lost a battle in his career, having conquered the entire South and reaching upto the Gajapati domains of Odisha in his conquest.

Elite RW aren't the standard bearers of Hinduism.

We are.
Fasting on Ekadasi, reading Vishnu Sahasranamam, carrying Ganesh idols on our heads, lighting lamps before Amla trees, worshipping rivers, walking up Tirumala hills, applying tilak to new cars.

We will never be finished
As long as we continue to invoke Ganesha before new endeavours, help our mothers draw rangolis outside, wake up at 4 to visit temples, offer food to strays outside as Dattatreya, apply vermillion to the threshold, sit listening to Meerabai and Tukaram, this dharma will survive
As long as saints congregate at Pandharpur, as long as Jagannath draws his celestial chariots out at Puri, as long as Mata Durga visits us annually for 9 days, as long as Maha Shiva rises each time at Somnath, this religion will live on.

Dont be defeatist.

An officer got trolled massively for suggesting arranged marriage should be declared illegal.
Deleted his account now.

My two cents

We all have prejudices and political inclinations. Leave the IRS/IPS/IAS tag out of your handle if you want to be vocal about your passions on twitter.

Or else be prepared, because your are vulnerable to damage, and the mob can tag your boss and his boss in an instant.
Twitter can be exceedingly cruel, especially when it shows you the mirror.
So be a normal citizen/anonymous handle if you want to rage against the machine.

Because right now, a babu is a part of the system and always in danger of Conduct Rules being invoked.

Brahmanandam is not a person. Its an emotion.

You just need to see him on the screen to start laughing.
No twitter thread can do justice to his versatile talent.

But today, lets go on a ride down nostalgia lane with all of Brahmanandam's characters with caps and hats.
1.Music director JayaSurya from King(2008). The ultimate opener for the thread.
This Delta Force cap has a separate fan base of its own. I am sure people remember Brahmanandam more than Nagarjuna from this movie.

Im Telling That!
2. Jayasurya from King (2008). Once again. Though this is a bandana rather than a cap, we all died laughing as Sri Hari painted Brahmi.
Memorable role.

Ever heard of the Chera king from Kerala who beseeched Lord Venkateswara to give him eternal darshan and was transformed into the threshold of the Sanctum sanctorum in Tirupati?
No? A thread on the legend of Kulasekhara Alwar, and the Kulasekhara padi of the Tirumala temple.
The Alwars were 12 South Indian bhakti saints of the medieval period who espoused unending veneration towards Lord Vishnu. The corpus of their devotional work is called the Divya Prabandham, and these saints are considered the bulwark of Vaishnava revivalism in the South.
Among the 12 Alwars, one was a woman. Andal from Sirivilliputhur. But today we talk about Kulasekhara Alwar, a king from the Chera dynasty and his relation with Lord Venkateswara of the Tirumala temple.

Ever heard of Gollala Mamidada village in Andhra?
Affectionately called "Konaseema Ayodhya", this town has a famous Lord Rama temple. Set in the midst of lush greenery, the towering double Gopurams are a sight for the ages.

A thread.
The delta area of the Godavari river is called the Konaseema. This island is created as the Godavari splits into its distributaries the Vruddha Godavari, Vasishta Godavari, Gautami and Nilarevu, just below the city of Rajahmundry. Gollala Mamidada is located here
Located around 45 km from Rajamundry (and 20 kms from Kakinada), this little village is famous for the Sri Kodanda Rama Swami Temple. Kodandam is the bow of Lord Rama, and he is worshipped in AP/TG mostly as Kodanda Rama.
