1/14 -a thread - Three years ago today, the body of a 16-year-old child was found hanging in his cell at Polmont, some 72 hours after he arrived there on remand. His name was #WilliamLindsay 💔
2/14- On the 4 Oct 2018 William was sent to prison by our courts because our criminal justice system could not find a children’s secure unit place & the desperate concerns of his social workers went ignored.
3/14William was in & out of care since the age of 3, he had multiple placements, and resided in secure accommodation, self-harming since the age of 8, considered a high risk of suicide from the age of 13 & had on several occasions attempted to take his own life.
4/14-On 4 October 2018, William was remanded to YOI Polmont as a first offender. Prior to his appearance in court, his sister and social worker visited him in custody, and they found that his mood was low. On speaking to William, he told them he would attempt to complete suicide
5/14-As a result of this, the social worker advised the Sheriff that William was vulnerable & submitted an Alternative to Custody report. However, as there no secure accommodation available for William, the Sheriff remanded him to YOI Polmont on Thursday evening 4th October 2018.
6/14- On Sat 6 Oct William was within his cell on his own for long periods of time. On Sun 7 Oct William was found hanging by his neck from the top bunk of room Munro 2-45 by the night duty at 7:40 am. He had ripped his bed sheets and used them as a noose💔
7/14- 3 years ago, everyone from @NicolaSturgeon to politicians offered ‘sincere condolences to William’s mother Christine. Journalists fell over themselves to fill their pages with demands for change & talk of how William’s death had impacted them in a way that no other had
8/14- Well today on the 3rd anniversary of a terrified child taking his own life, he is forgotten by all those who promised to never forget #WilliamLindsay
9/14- Whether they be a politician, prison governor, Scottish Prison Service, campaigning journalist, children’s rights organisation or official tasked with monitoring prisons, all those who commented at the time, every single one should hang their heads in shame.
10/14- Over the last 24 hours politicians have fallen over themselves to vociferously support or condemn the Supreme Court judgement all claiming they all want to fundamentally protect the human rights of children.
11/14- The hypocrisy & irony are not lost today on 3rd anniversary when politicians have so quickly forgotten a 16year old child William Lindsay who died on their watch.
12/14 The family believe @scottishprisons & the NHS Forth Valley are guilty of corporate homicide
13/14 The family of William Lindsay no longer have any trust in the Scottish Government, @KeithBrownSNP the Scottish Prison Service or an FAI to deliver justice or the truth.A civil action has now been launched against the Scottish Prison Service and NHS Forth Valley.
14/14 Christine Lindsay, Williams mother says her heart his broken, but she will fulfil her duty to her child and cry out for justice for him💔

Thread 1/8- Insp.Warhurst @PoliceScotland blasted in Employment Tribunal said female firearms officers shld be accompanied on duty by males & shared topless photos on WhatsApp Grp, is now a Scottish Police Federation rep providing help 2female colleagues🙈 bbc.com/news/uk-scotla…
2/8- In his 2018 note, Insp Warhurst, warned against sending 2 women on a callout due to “obvious differences in physical capacity…For operational reasons I don’t want to see 2 female officers deployed together when there are sufficient male staff on duty”
3/8 -Insp said “This is based on my experience in firearms & routine policing environment, other than the obvious differences in physical capacity,it makes more sense from a search, balance of testosterone perspective. If you want 2discuss my door is open.”assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/615c5cc7…

Thread 1/11 Parts of unprecedented sentencing statement by Judge Beckett on @policescotland over M9 deaths of #LamaraBell #JohnYuill makes shocking reading & as the present Chief Constable pled guilty for1st time on behalf of service to corporate criminal liability in Scotland
2/11 “At the High Court in Edinburgh today, Lord Beckett fined the Office of the Chief Constable of @policescotland £100,000 following a guilty plea to a breach of the health and safety at work legislation”
3/11 “This case arises from terrible events in which two relatively young people died, one of them after days of severe physical suffering when she must have been in an almost unimaginable state of distress and anxiety”

Thread 1/9 Comes as no surprise that leadership of Scottish Police Federation produce research for their own ‘quasi’ magazine to demand GUNS-Thankfully their out of touch leadership, who haven’t been beat cops for years, will never get to make that decision #ShekuBayoh
2/9 -Headline is inaccurate- 40% of police officers were not victims of assault last year- that statistic applies to 40% of 1698 officers their Federation surveyed, not 17,283 officers deployed by @policescotland making it just 3% not 40% of officers
3/9 The headline is disingenuous, more than half of Scots Cops do not want guns, it is the officers the Federation surveyed which means it’s actually only 899 officers making it just 5% of 17,283 police officers in Scotland 🙈

1/17 statement - ‘This morning our legal team appeared at court on @ClaraPonsati’s behalf & it was agreed that she should be discharged as a requested person & these extradition court proceedings are now finally at an end in Scotland’🎗
2/17 On each & every occasion, that @ClaraPonsati & the Catalan exiles have taken on the might of the Spanish state they have won, whilst Spain has failed to crush the spirit of the Catalan People
3/17 In March 2018 @ClaraPonsati first appeared before the Scottish courts following Spain issuing a European Arrest Warrant, relating to her involvement in the peaceful independence referendum of 2017.

1/8 thread 👇🏽How convenient- head of Scottish Police Federation on #GeorgeFloyd but next week he’s in court to stop misconduct action after making a joke of #ShekuBayoh death in police custody. SPF are accused by Sheku’s family of smearing a dead man & trying to silence them
2/8 #LineOfDuty? Scottish Police Federation spent thousands defending itself on misconduct allegation over #ShekuBayoh as well as multiple officers in Whatsapp group exposed over alleged racism & anti-semitism google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dail…
3/8 #ShekuBayoh death in police custody ‘Somebody has lost their life, so anybody who attempts to dehumanise, smear or downplay the seriousness of the matter needs to take a very long hard look at themselves & think twice about what they are doing’ dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-…

#GeorgeFloydVerdict is not the end. No1 should be above the law, yet since 1969 not 1 police officer in the UK has been convicted of killing a person in custody, this verdict should be the beginning -Never forget #ShekuBayoh & so many more💔 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🇺🇸
The UK is not innocent, there have been 1,741 deaths in police custody or otherwise following contact with the police since 1990. No police officer has ever been convicted in connection to those deaths. #GeorgeFloyd
#GeorgeFloyd was not just about racial injustice in the 🇺🇸 a black person in the UK is twice as likely to die in police custody than any other ethnicity. So what now?
