While (too) many people celebrate the Nobel Prize for Russian Novaya Gazeta, one may not forget that this newspaper serves as a "legal opposition" fig leaf for Putin (and cooperates). No surprise, editor-in-chief Muratov says, he would donate Prize money a Putin-founded charity:
For example, "Novaya Gazeta" was the main media which had spread a fake story about "psychological terror in internet, which leads Russian kids to commit suicides" - a clear FSB fake invented to justify draconic control of FSB over social media.
"Novaya Gazeta" was also the medium used to white-wash Russian FIFA 2018 World Cup - as voices were loud to take FIFA2018 from Russia amid Russian war in Ukraine, "Novaya" and its star reporter Kanygin invested a lot to create an image that MH17 victims' relatives support Russia
Overall, "Novaya Gazeta" (as well as "Echo Moskvy", "TV Rain", "Meduza" and some others) are fully under Kremlin's control, are loyal to Putin in the most important parts of Kremlin's narrative and found its way to collaborate (although they continue to be under pressure).
It is a shame, that Nobel Prize Committee had ignored real freedom champions in Eastern Europe like Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya, Mariya Kalesnikava and others.
Some more details: "Novaya Gazeta" covered Russian annexation of Crimea very loyal to Putin: it used wording "referendum in Crimea" without questioning of its staged character under occupation, and said, "95,7% of ppl in Crimea voted for re-unification (!) with Russia".
"Novaya Gazeta" continuously uses Kremlin's imperialist chauvinist wording "на Украине", although there is no legal obligations in Russia to use it (therefore no fines or other problems threat a media for writing "в Украине").
Nobel Prize winner Muratov also white-washed Vladimir Putin and his war in Ukraine in his interview to "Echo Moskvy", saying that private actors try to manipulate Putin and "forcefully involve" him and Russia into war - months after Putin had started this war with RUS army:
In the same interview, Nobel Prize winner Muratov falsely claimed, Ukraine used rocket artillery to shell civilian areas in Russian town of Gukovo, located on Russian territory next to Ukrainian border.
And don't forget: 14% of shares of "Novaya Gazeta" belong to KGB Lt.Col Yevgeni Lebedev, long-year operative at Soviet Embassy in London, and 10% to Mikhail Gorbachev, who not only witnessed the collapse of the USSR, but was also a fierce supporter of annexation of Crimea.
The next dirty detail about "Novaya Gazeta": the head of Politics Desk at Novaya is notorious Kirill Martynov. Before Novaya, Martynov was a press-secretary of Federal Youth Agency (Yakemenko, creators of "Nashi" and other thugs) and worked for many other Kremlin Projects (tbc)
The Head of Politics at Novaya Martynov also worked at "Effective Politics Foundation" (FEP, the Kremlin think tank which developed tactics for elections manipulation and mocking the opposition); he also was a coordinator at Kremlin party's "United Russia"'s "liberal club" (tbc)
In 2008, his wife and minor daughter have disappeared - after police had started to investigate allegedly attempt of murder on Martynov's daughter. Normally, Russian police never close such cases (attempted murder, disappearing of a mother and a child), but not in Martynov's case
Marnynov has never been bothered by police after his wife and daughter had mysteriously disappeared, his carrier at Kremlin projects, but also at "liberal" institutions like "High School of Economy" bloomed. Now he leads the Politics Desk at Novaya, with its major KGB shareholder
And don't forget: 2 weeks ago Editor-in-chief Muratov fiercely attacked those who criticised manipulated elections in Moscow, and defended the cover-op by Venediktov (Head of Echo Moskvy radio, who claimed elections were fairly counted).
So what do we have:
Novaya participated in spreading of FSB fakes, Kremlin narratives
Chief editor Muratov white-washed Putin's aggression against Ukraine
Head of Politics was deep in Kremlin propaganda projects for years
The biggest shareholder is a KGB Lt.Col, London operative
I can't stop tweeting about "Novaya Gazeta", granted a Nobel Prize as if it was a free pro-democratic media. Another case: in June 2015, one of Novaya's star reporters Kanygin met Russian terrorist Borodai, responsible for mass killings in Ukraine, and made a happy photo with him
Borodai was a Russian citizen, who co-organized Russian invasion in Ukraine. He was a "PM of DNR" and later a "President of veterans of Donbas (war)". Novaya's reporter Kanygin met him (with some sort of a fan club of DNR) in Moscow, and shot this photo with a sign of solidarity:
Kanygin is one of chief reporters at Novaya, he white-washed Russian role in MH17 shooting, published a manifesto against the idea to to prevent FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, spreaded the idea, Dutch relatives of MH17 victimes want Russian FIFA World Cup: novayagazeta.ru/articles/2018/…
Novaya's Editor-in-Chief Muratov, widely celebrated as a freedom champion, participated in propagandist campaign in order to white-wash electoral manipulations in Russia. He attacked Navalny in 2016, saying, Russian Electoral Committee Chief Pamfilova is a crystal clear person
"Navalny must go to the Cent. Electoral Commission and ask for forgiveness", - Muratov said. - "His campaign (against manipulations) reminds me (Nazi propaganda) from the WWII", he added. He called critics of Russian elections "ill-raised kids" and "a mob" navalny.com/p/5154/
To make it very clear: two arrows show 1) Russian operative in Donbas, a "PM of DNR" and "Head of Donbas War Veterans" Borodai; 2) "Novaya Gazeta" senior political editor Kanygin, while celebrating together in Moscow in Summer 2015. "Novaya" has got Nobel PEACE prize this year.
Borodai was a “PM of DNR” (de facto a RUS governor on the occupied territory) as MH17 was shot down by RUS army from “DNR” area. 11 months later Novaya’s sen.pol.reporter Kanygin celebrated with Borodai in Moscow. 2018: Kanygin whitewashed MH17 case. 2021: Novaya got peace Nobel.

In four weeks, Feb. 23rd, Germany will have preliminary elections. In this THREAD I will try to explain what it is about, who would probably win, where are bottlenecks, and what it means for the world and for Ukraine. /1 ⬇️
First, we need to understand: German electoral system is designed to dilute votes. No job higher than a city mayor gets elected directly. The reason is the Nazi past: no politician may claim being elected by the PEOPLE. So people vote for parties, and they name politicians. /2⬇️
So people vote for parties, and parties need 50%+1 vote to name a head of a region, or a chancellor. Normally, no party gets over 50%, so a coalition is needed (on a federal level, conservatives from the CDU under Adenauer have got 50,2% in 1957, but still formed a coalition)/3⬇️
Yesterday in Davos, Germany's guru diplomat and Merkel's minion @ischinger made some absolutely crazy statements, effectively urging for occupation of Ukraine by BRICS countries (and promoted his wife's book in the beginning). In this THREAD I explain why this was terrible /1 ⬇️
Let us deconstruct Ischinger step by step. First, he claims Western peace troops in Ukraine must follow a rule "all in - all out". Who told you so? NATO countries supported Ukraine on their own all the time. Had we waited for Hungary and Scholz, 🇺🇦 would never get anything /2 ⬇️
Second. Ischinger claims, European NATO troops may not be sent, because they would automatically and never be able to fight without a presence of the U.S. troops. Hallo, Ischi, ever asked how Ukrainian troops fight quite successfully without the U.S. troops on the ground? /2 ⬇️
A THREAD: Our 2024 #ChristmasDrones campaign is running! Why it is important, and how we at the @EuroResilience deliver donated goods directly to the frontline? Get insight from this THREAD (And a donation link: ) /1paypal.com/donate?campaig…
During our last donation campaign by @EuroResilience @BrennpunktUA and @frontlinekit, we have raised €277,000. For this money, we have produced hundreds of drones, and bought addition equipment for the drones units: off-the-shelf drones, cars, antennas, power stations. /2
@EuroResilience @BrennpunktUA @frontlinekit I personally traveled days through Ukraine, bringing equipment directly to the frontline. When you stay at the units, sleep in their premises, eat with soldiers, and escape Russian drones attacks, this creates bonds. Soldiers tell you what they REALLY need, and trust you. /3
A large number of genuine Ukrainian accounts I follow on different social media (and in many cases I personally know people behind them) are looking positively towards Trump's presidency, and see him as a hope for any true action. This shows how much Biden has pissed off Ukraine.
I stress: I don't say if Trump is good or bad. I say: many Ukrainians who risk their life daily, many at the front, are glad that Biden's team leaves the stage. They are well aware of Trump's ambiguity, and of what he & his team said about 🇺🇦 or Putin. Still they are relieved.
Biden's team went to this catastrophe deliberately and for years. From Ukraine's hero who has provided Ukraine with Javelins - to a pity old delusional man who is afraid of the might of the country he runs.
THREAD The real problem in communication btw Ukraine and its allies is the total lack of a common post-war world vision ➡️ the lack of a common goal. 🇺🇦 goal is to guarantee survival of the 🇺🇦 state AND of 🇺🇦nation, AND to achieve sustainable security for them in the future. 1/8
This goal is impossible to achieve without a full military defeat of Russia, and either significant demilitarization of Russia, or a significant increase of Ukraine’s military capacities, including gigantic long-range strike capacities (cruise missiles and Air Force). 2/8
The Western goal is different. While it’s not aimed against Ukraine per se
and would even welcome Ukraine’s survival, first of all it is aimed at prevention of Russia’s uncontrolled collapse, which associates with global risks (while Ukraine’s defeat is seen as a local risk). 3/8
I have just return from a very interesting NATO conference in Yerevan, Armenia. As much as the conference was amazing, the contrast to practically Russia-occupied country was grotesque. Lots of signs of Russia’s dominance: from cinema Moscow to purely Russian advertising /1
Russian plates on luxury cars, Russian announcements regarding the Eurasian Economic Union in the airport, Russian business lounges, tasteless Russian ad of “Crude Oil Vodka” /2
I felt absolutely unsafe every minute outside of the group. The level of subordination is crazy. Russian flags even on sweets shops, and even “Armenian-Chinese Friendship Society” addresses people in Russian (!) not in Armenian or Chinese. /3
