THREAD
Let's talk abt this: "If the Devil can be redeemed, then anyone can." At 1st, when I saw this, I was super excited. Who doesnt love a good parallel, eh? It's like easter eggs! Lucifer channeling his big brother, using the exact words from a few years ago...
#Lucifer

But then something bothered me, I remembered Lucifer's initial reaction. The 1st time Amenadiel said those words, he had just learned that #Lucifer got his wings back and lost his Devil face, after blabbing abt helping Lucifer, only bc he thought he was his test... 😒
2/23
I remembered how riled up #Lucifer was, the disbelief at seeing the brother, with whom he had started to rebuild a relationship, still misjudge him. I remembered how irked I was at hearing tone-deaf Amenadiel say the exact wrong words to his little brother...
3/23
... the perfect words to make him feel unloved, unwanted, unworthy, misunderstood, misappreciated and not enough... #Lucifer felt insulted, justifiably, by Amenadiel's words. So I find it so weird to see him go along with them now and even say them himself.
4/23
My unease with it comes down to "redemption". Bc this quote suggests that Lucifer needed to be redeemed for some evil he had done. And, sure, rebellion and blabla we still know *nothing* abt, but in my eyes, #Lucifer was never a classic villain redemption arc.
5/23
He's not evil. (He punished evil). The message I understood from 5B is that both God & Lucifer were at fault. (God didnt even mention the rebellion in 5B...) And #Lucifer was on a journey to find redemption *for* himself, *from* himself. In his *own* eyes.
6/23
He worked at finding his self-worth and forgiving himself for his past. God *never* said He forgave #Lucifer or redeemed him. He didnt need to and Lucifer didnt need his Father to forgive him.
7/23
I feel like they shouldnt have used this quote. I get that it's meant to be positive & inspiring, "redemption for all!", but it feels in direct contradiction with 5B to me, and even the whole show and in such contradiction with who #Lucifer is as a character, at his core.
8/23
(It also suggests that the lost souls need to be redeemed *by* someone when the idea, at the end, is that they need to redeem themselves in their own eyes by atoning and forgiving themselves to move past their guilt...)

Idk... maybe "if the Devil can forgive/redeem himself, then anyone can"? lol. Less poetic but not canon-erasing 👀🤷🏽‍♀️ .

But also can we discuss the moral/ philosophical/ethical implications of this quote? Beyond setting #Lucifer as the baseline for all evil and the being least worthy of redemption, which we all know is wrong, it implies everyone deserves redemption.
11/23
While eternal damnation may not be it and may be completely pointless and unbelievably cruel, do they? Does everyone deserve redemption? What abt murderers, rapists, psychopaths...?
#Lucifer
12/23
Do they deserve redemption when they dont even seem to be trying to atone for it or even feel any bit of remorse for what they did? That's what Le Mec's presence on the couch at the end of 610 seems to be suggesting...
#Lucifer
13/23
It's funny & all, he's got an (atrocious) French accent and he's gonna need a "little more time" (a looot more sessions) but that man in that scene doesnt feel any remorse for killing ppl. And yet, here he is, chilling on the couch waiting for his pastries! Ah c'est bon! #Lucifer
Is that a fairer better system? Then, anybody can do whatever on Earth and all will be ok and forgivable at some point? Maybe even, let's die before prison so there's no punishment and atonement whatsoever? To Hell with consequences, literally. 🤷🏽‍♀️
#Lucifer
15/23
At least humans on Earth dont know abt that so they wont do it, I guess😂. I think having Michael on the couch and not Le Mec would've been more meaningful. If u wanna go w/ #Lucifer helping someone he hates, it's perfect! Also bc redemption for everyone but toothbrush for M? 🙄
I'm also wondering abt the emotional/psychological impact for Chloe in Hell... Seeing the man who killed her daughter's father chillin there? The one who tortured her other daughter and tried to kill the love of her life? Having to help *him* get redemption...??
#Lucifer
17/23
All the ppl she worked her whole life to stop? Those who died before prison or during? All in therapy & not feeling remorseful... How pointless her human work, her whole life's work, will seem to her in light of this, how inadequate she'll feel. All meaningless. (Like the blip👀)
I guess at least she did stop them and made ppl safer on Earth. In the end, she was asking the right questions in S4. And Ella had the right answer: there's no such thing as celestial justice. Not anymore. You do your part on Earth. And they'll chill on the couch in Hell...
19/23
(And for the victims who died, it's all good. They still get to enjoy the afterblip! Maybe even reunite with their newly redeemed murderer or rapist in Heaven...! 🙄)
20/23
But still, I can't help but think abt Chloe meeting Malcolm, Father Kinley or Cain (🤢) there and having to help them, of all people, cross over to Heaven... How is she supposed to feel abt that? (How is that fair to her or #Lucifer...?)
21/23
Anyway, I digress. I dont think this quote was appropriate. It goes against everything #Lucifer, character and show, were and it sets the basis for a new unfair system in my opinion.
22/23
I'll leave you with this one question to think about regarding this and I dedicate the "philosophical" part of this thread, and this tweet specifically, to NOL 😉. If #Lucifer, the Devil, can be redeemed then anyone can. So:

tagging you separately @NotOneLineFF, in case ppl reply, so you dont get all the notifications 😂😂😂😂
also sorry abt the little bits of snark towards the end... I started thinking abt the blip and got mad all on my own 😂😂 this was supposed to be neutral regarding the ending but I guess I cant help how I feel 🤷🏽‍♀️😂
