@joshtpm OK, here’s view from over 50 years of shows in every state & now almost 20 years of elections on the ground.
It’s really always about us trying to move things forward toward a more egalitarian, multiracial democracy vs. them trying to maintain white male supremacy at all costs.
@joshtpm Issues kind of come & go, but underlying them all is the coalition of greedy business goons manipulating bigots to accumulate enough votes to make sure the rich don’t pay taxes & minorities stay in urban areas “where they belong.” So the real fight is urban/rural.
@joshtpm That of course disadvantages Democrats because rural areas occupy vastly more land than urban areas & our system is structured to favor land over people. Not surprising, since the founders were all white male landowners, who, while relatively enlightened, still took care of #1.
@joshtpm So we limp forward incrementally, 3 steps forward, 2 steps back. Progressive ideas always triumph eventually, at least so far. Enslaved peoples are free, women can vote, gay people can get married. But we’ve now arrived at the most serious crisis since the Civil War.
@joshtpm I would actually argue, more dangerous than the Civil War. If we’d let that set of traitors go, there would have still been an America, it just would have been smaller & its neighbor would have been a shithole. Now, the traitors have a different goal. They want to end democracy.
@joshtpm The next two elections are democracy vs. autocracy. America vs. Trump/Putin. Pick a side. And fight. I know I will. What some data analyst thinks about a set of details won’t matter. End.
@joshtpm To be clear, by “some data analyst,” I mean Shor. Never the actually insightful @joshtpm.

What is easily lost in the travails of the idiot in the WH is the underlying reality that the modern @GOP is completely bereft of policy solutions to any of our problems.
Cutting taxes for the top in an already strong economy may create a short term bump, but is a long term risk
Building walls when there is historically low immigration illegal or otherwise does absolutely nothing to deal with the immigrants who are already here.
They have no proposals to deal with an upcoming retirement security crisis other than cuts to earned benefits.
They’ve increased the deficit they railed against when Obama had to spend to save the economy they just sank by around $2 trillion. Just to cut taxes for their wealthy donors. In the long run, that increased deficit is an unnecessary burden on the economy. They don’t care.
