A very tricky next few months in the offing as far as the Energy supply chain for the country is concerned. With restrained RLNG supplies and subdued indigenous gas supplies, GoP would have to depend more on the expensive Furnace Oil.
To make matters challenging, two of the southern refineries have shutdowns (for maintenance) planned for November and December which would obviously restrict Furnace Oil supplies.
Which means, GoP would depend more on imported Furnace Oil supplies. Since bulk of the Furnace Oil is imported via Port Qasim, one could expect congestion at the port.
If things weren’t enough, there is a multigrade pipeline operation about to kickstart at Port Qasim in the coming few days. Which means Port Qasim would be handling imports of HSD, Petrol and Furnace Oil. With only one operational berth, things could get intricate.
GoP should plan for contingencies and maximize coal based power generation and manage domestic electric load at day time during winters.
More use of expensive fuels to generate power would result in higher Electricity bills!
