Mayor Bowser holding a presser with DDOT in Deanwood later this morning to announce the “and implementation of a new streamlined
process to accelerate roadway safety improvements projects.”
Several ANC commissioners and residents say process for requested changes takes too long
We talked a little bit about that in a segment last week.

We’re near the Deanwood metro station where DDOT says it completed some traffic calming, bulb outs and pedestrian islands “quickly” (about a year for planning and construction). Partly at the request of the rec center across the street, partly a usual traffic safety assessment. ImageImage
Bowser says she too is angry as is the community with recent traffic deaths, injuries.

“Anytime you drive over 25 mph you take a serious risk that someone could die if you hit them.”

Bowser talks about reckless driving, the distracted driving and the failure to share the road.
Bowser says DDOT working to accelerate pace of installing stop signs, traffic calming, flex posts, and more.

50 projects in the next six weeks. Residents can track progress on DDOT website.
Lott says he’s targeting 100 intersections every year that are high priorities for safety and Vision Zero.

I think this was something council has pitched if I remember right.
One resident of Minnesota Ave NE says the pedestrian island doesn’t slow down drivers. Says they’d prefer a speed bump

DCA cutting the ribbon on its new TSA security halls this AM.
Change will put most of the airport, including the grand National Hall behind security.
Has space for 20 to 28 security lanes and will “create a seamless, free-flowing environment between Terminal B/C.”
Opens in Nov. ImageImage
A new concourse project that opened earlier this year still gets fanfare for defeating the Main Boss of DCA. Image
Some pics of some of the new security lanes that are getting installed. Project doesn’t open for a few more weeks. Both buildings on the North and South end of the terminals are the same. ImageImageImageImage

Metro's board is hearing the presentation on potential fare changes right now.

You can tune in here if you're curious:

I'll tweet some of the board members' reactions.

dcist.com/story/21/09/21…
This idea, that fare value is stored on cards, always seemed super weird and odd to me. But the backend is 30+ years old so that's why it makes no sense.

Also why if you want to move your card to iPhone/Android your physical card no longer works.
Now on to questions.
Finance Chair Matt Letourneau: Are there any scenarios that raised ridership AND revenue?

WMATA's Tom Webster: No. Primarily ideas to drive ridership.

After 559 days at home, going back to the office today.

Reader, I am generally not an anxious person, but I did not sleep last night, full of dread.
Didn’t even get a #newtrain this morning. 😡
Ah yes, man blowing his nose on the train. Thanks.

Only a few hours remain for the Wendy’s near NoMa and Google Maps says it’s poppin.

It closes tonight to make room for a revamped and (hopefully) safer intersection.
Look, I know we talk about Wendy’s and Dave Thomas Circle a lot, but can we talk about the unsung hero of Florida Ave?

This Domino’s always smells fantastic when I’m on the Met Branch Trail.

Next up today: @newfdmb ribbon cutting.
Marching bands, truck horns and what I think was a planned helicopter flyover? And a beautiful rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing.
Bowser says the new Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge is symbolic in bridging communities, but also providing accessibility between Ward 8 and Ward 6.
