Last Saturday, med tech volunteer Ara Dela Cruz, 24, said a patient at the hospital’s emergency room received a letter from his wife who couldn’t be with her due to COVID-19 protocols.
The letter written on a piece of paper read: “’Di pa nagpunta si Jella dito. Wala na akong pambili ng kailangan mo, wala na rin akong pambili ng pagkain dito.”
Dela Cruz said the reaction of the patient upon reading the letter pierced her heart. She couldn’t leave him.
Dela Cruz then asked the patient about what he needs so she can try to find money to lend them, but the man said this in return: “Kahit ’wag na po ’yung kailangan ko. Siya na lang po. Wala pong pera yon, buong araw na po hindi kumakain yon.”
Moved by what she heard, Dela Cruz decided to share the photo on social media.
“You are so blessed. Unlike you, other people are barely making it. So please give more kindness and love. And don’t forget to be grateful. Every day,” she wrote.
Many individuals expressed willingness to help the patient. With this, Dela Cruz helped the wife of the patient to set up a GCash account. In just a matter of hours, the account already reached its transaction limit.
As of this writing, they are still looking for ways to accommodate those who want to donate.
