"Western-style democracy has become a global hazard" - Zhang Shuhua, director of the Institute of Political Science at the gov-affiliated Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Dean of the School of Government Management of the Chinese University of Social Sciences.1/6
Zhang wrote the article in preparation for the first of two global "Summits for Democracy" initiated and hosted (virtually) by the US and planned for December 9-10, 2021, and the following year, respectively. Excerpt:
2/
"Over time, proponents of American-style democracy have evolved into political virus dispersers, unrest creators, and law and order destroyers; you may occasionally find them in the company of historical revisionist forces, vigilantes, and fascists.
3/
"As a result, instead of exporting democracy, the US has exported destruction, unrest, conflict, division, hatred, and even bloody wars.
4/
"Wherever American-style democracy is practiced, it frequently breeds divisive and radical forces, and it can even serve as a breeding ground for terrorist activities.
5/
"American-style democracy is not a panacea for the world; rather, it is a recipe for perpetual division, massive destruction, and flames of war." 6/6 Link: opinion.huanqiu.com/article/4556WF…

"Adhere to humanity's shared values and lead the reform of the global system of governance" - Every other day, it seems, I come across an article about China's desire to reform global governance. This time, by ex-diplomat and preeminent scholar Ruan Zongze.
Abstract and excerpts:
Ruan is executive vice President and senior fellow at the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), a think-tank administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and member of UNDP Human Development Report Advisory Panel.
Ruan's article was published in the "Chinese Cadres Tribune", a monthly journal on ideology and theory sponsored by the Party School of the Central Committee of the CCP.
"The US government's newly declassified 9/11 files contain numerous references to Israel and the Jews" - another rendition of "antisemitism with Chinese characteristics" by firebrand nationalist "influencer" Yu Li (alias Sima Nan) 1/
The unaffiliated Sima Nan, a CCP member, ex-journalist, lecturer, and government employee now managed by April Media, published a blog post yesterday in which he shared verbatim "a message from a friend in the US," a clear-cut blood-libel linking Israel and the Jews to 9/11.
2/
The original text in traditional Chinese attached. The source is unknown, but it is most likely an amalgam of regurgitated canards on neo-Nazi and white supremacist blogs, such as the one in the second screengrab ("Israel had tipped off its citizens who worked at the towers" etc)
While attending a special G20 summit on Afghanistan, Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi makes (yet another) four-point proposal. This time, "to tackle Afghan issues". TLDR below: 1/5
1) First, Wang called on the international community to focus on people's livelihood with humanitarian support. China has announced to urgently provide Afghanistan with 200 million yuan worth of assistance for mostly food, materials for winter, medicines and COVID-19 vaccines.
2) Second, AF should stay committed to an open, inclusive path of development, establish an inclusive political structure and sound domestic and foreign policies. Appealed countries to lift their unilateral sanctions against Afghanistan.
"We ARE going through a profound change!"- In late Aug, an obscure leftist blogger named Li Guangman rose to stardom overnight after a post he wrote on his blog titled "Everybody can feel that a profound change is taking place" was widely circulated on party-state media online 1/
His original post was in response to China's massive overhaul of a dozen sectors, including economic, financial, cultural, technological, and political, which he called "a monumental change", "a profound revolution" that "marks a return from 'capitalist cliques' to the People
2/
Then, two days ago, Li posted a new article on his WeChat account, this time connecting the dots between four state actions that occurred around October 8th, which he interprets as a doubling-down on the fight against private capital and capital-heavy interest groups:
3/
Sociology professor Zhao Dingxin of Chicago U, who is also the Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities and Social Sciences at Zhejiang U, criticized China's wolf warrior diplomats in an article published in the October issue of Beijing Cultural Review. 1/7
The article's main theme, however, is misunderstandings in public perception with respect to SIno-US ties and a warning to China to avoid geopolitical traps, lest it become a scapegoat for the United States' need to "be great again," as Japan did after Pearl Harbor. Excerpt:
2/
"In recent years, some Chinese diplomats have frequently used highly emotional rhetoric when interacting with Westerners. It is understandable that these diplomats have grievances against some Western countries' hegemony, bias, and hypocrisy.
3/
"Security cooperation has always been the top priority of the Shanghai Cooperation Org (SCO)"- Ding Xiaoxing, CICIR's Director of Inst of Eurasian Studies, disagrees with those who downplay the SCO's role in regional security, claiming that it's becoming even more prominent. 1/6
Ding says that the SCO has done a lot of work in the field of security cooperation over the last 20 years, primarily in six areas: 1) promulgating legal documents and establishing a legal system;
2/
2) upholding the "new security concept", which is basically an alternative to US-led Western security concept; 3) establishing a cooperation mechanism for exchanging info, coordinating law enforcement, and promoting security cooperation;
