A lot of people here have been asking me about stocks and investing on the @ZSE_ZW.
Below I try and explain what stocks are and how to start investing in them through the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange
A THREAD🧵
WHAT ARE STOCKS?
Stocks are a type of equity investment that represents ownership in a company. When you're trading stocks you are buying and selling shares (ownership) of a company. When you buy shares you become a shareholder and own part of the company.
Investing in stocks allows you to be a shareholder in big companies such as Delta, Econet, CBZ, etc. You can own as big or as small a share of the company as you want, funds permitting.
Now imagine owning part of your MNO, bank, retail shop or beer producer 🍻
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INVESTING?
• Ownership in big companies
• Potential for long-term returns
• Hedge against inflation
• Passive income via dividends
• Diversification (Ecclesiastes 11:2)
Summarized: Unogona kungomuka wava Mbinga 😅
HOW TO MAKE MONEY OFF STOCKS?
1) Stock appreciation 📈
This is the main way of making money through stocks. You invest in a company and as it grows the prices of those stocks go up and you can sell it for profit.
Year to date, the AVERAGE stock on the ZSE is up 140% (in USD 💰)
2) Dividends 💰
These are payments made to investors of a company whenever a company does well. They can be a great way to make passive income as you only invest once but the money will keep coming as long as you're an investor 🤑🤑🤑
** not all companies pay dividends 😕
GETTING STARTED
In Zim, there are 2 primary ways to get started in stocks
1) Trade via a Stock Broker
This is one of the safest ways for beginners to start. You simply find a stockbroker who will help you create the needed accounts, start buying stocks and also provide advice.
2) Online trading
This way is more suited for retail traders. You can create your own profile on ZSE Direct or CTrade, and start trading all by yourself. This method will need you to read and research more into stocks but I find managing your own money is best.
That's it for now...
But if you want more investment content just like this then...
