Are we entering UN 2:0?
It seems that the existing version of United Nations (UN) is becoming obsolete. About 80 years ago, the League of Nations became obsolete and its mandate useless when it denied #Ethiopa the justice it deserved. 1/8 @Qnie_Addis@althecat
The League of Nations failed when it turned a deaf ear to the plight of millions of Ethiopians, but applauded Fascist Italy. 2/8 @antonioguterres
Emperor Hailesellasie—who was denied justice and let down by the very institution he had great faith in—prophesized what was to happen a few years after. He said, “It is us today. It will be you tomorrow.” 3/8
After a few years, Mussolini--along with Hitler, inflicted immeasurable sufferings on the world, including those who clapped in applause for fascism. Millions lost their lives. Thousands of Ethiopians were brutally killed. 4/8
Soon, the world came to realize that the League of Nations was NO longer in position to be considered a moral institution for ensuring global peace and security. 5/8
After eight decades, the world is again bound to doubt the mandate of the United Nations as Ethiopia is now faced with a grave threat that could compromise its peace and order, sovereignty and territorial integrity. 6/8
This threat comes from #TPLF clique, a minority elite group that dominated Ethiopia for three decades and still wants to maintain the status quo. But the world and the UN, once again, is turning a deaf ear to this situation, just as the League of Nations did 85 years ago. 7/8
Is the UN bound to fail again? If so, could that be a sign that UN is failing in entirety? Is this a harbinger of UN 2.0? 8/8
