Systemic physiological harm can be mapped to aging. This study shows evidence goes far beyond a general mapping to molecular markers:

Evidence for Biological Age Acceleration and Telomere Shortening in COVID-19 Survivors

Figures explained in thread
1/
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
Black dashed line in the figure shows the direct correlation of chronological age (horizontal axis) with genetic age markers (vertical axis) for uninfected individuals (blue), and significant departure for infected individuals (red) especially for younger individuals.

2/
This figure shows the same results but after subtracting the chronological age. The age difference that results across the population is

10.45 ± 7.29 years (+5.25 years above the range of normality) compared with 3.68 ± 8.17 years for COVID-19-free population (p < 0.0001)

3/
Here are the results separated into three age groups, with younger people (under 60) aging by 15 years, 61-69 aging by 10 years, and 70 and over gaining about 3 years on average.

The linear fit of aging extrapolates to a biological aging of over 30 years for children.

4/
COVID infection aging for

20 year olds is 27 years, so they have a biological marker age almost 50

30 year olds is 23 years, so a biological marker age of 53.

40 year olds is 18 years, so biological marker age is 58

Children 5 years old, gain 33 years, to be almost 40.

Town urges curfew over mosquito-spread disease that kills up to 50% of people

Eastern Equine Encephalitis is very rare in the US, but when it strikes, it's bad.

1/

arstechnica.com/science/2024/0…
"A small town in Massachusetts is urging residents to stay indoors in the evenings after the spread of a dangerous mosquito-spread virus reached "critical risk level" The virus causes Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), which kills between 30 and 50 % of people who are stricken 2/
"Around half who survive are left permanently disabled, and some die within a few years due to complications. There is no treatment for EEE. So far, one person in the town—an elderly resident of Oxford—has already become seriously ill with neuroinvasive EEE.

No Amount of Hand-Washing Can Make COVID-19 a Seasonal Virus

"The selection of words modulates the message...terms such as “seasonal”, “like a cold”, and “like the flu” can be selected by writers to...lull the reader into a false sense of security...

"COVID-19 is not primarily a respiratory infection. This virus can cause a systemic disease with far-reaching effects on the body, particularly blood vessels. Once SARS-CoV-2 enters the body, the virus can affect the ...blood vessels, causing inflammation and damage.
2/
"This is where the challenge lies in understanding the risk that this virus poses to our health. The virus enters primarily via the respiratory tract, but then goes on to infect your organs across your body via your blood vessels.

The Risks of Killing a COVID Early Warning System via @TheTyee

"In Ontario, the government is rolling back its detection program. Doctors are speaking out about what’s at stake.
1/
thetyee.ca/Analysis/2024/…
"COVID-19 is surging in parts of North America and Europe, and even played a role in ending the presidential campaign of 81-year-old Joe Biden, who was infected for the 3rd time last month.

Nevertheless, on Wednesday the Ontario government shut down its early warning system. 2/
"Doctors, citizens and researchers are calling the decision to kill the province’s wastewater disease surveillance program both wrong-headed and dangerous. Ending the program will make it harder to track and thwart viral outbreaks,... 3/

With Millions Suffering, Long COVID is Devastating the Economy

"...getting better, there’s not much evidence to suggest that’s the case. In fact, since the CDC began tracking long COVID in 2022, more than 5% of American adults have consistently reported long COVID symptoms at any given time."

"I pointed this trend out to someone who was unaware of long COVID and the sheer number of people who appear to be suffering from it.“If many people are gradually developing long COVID,” they asked me. “Wouldn’t we see it in the economic data?”Yes, we would. And in fact, we are.3/
