I’ve decided to read X-Men from the beginning and I will document this completely original idea in this thread.
I find it interesting that this is the second panel of X-Men #1 and nearly sixty years later this is still pretty much how we convey telepathic speech bubbles vs regular ones. Image
I love Cyclops but I also love that he’s been Like That since day one. Image
Erik should bring this back imo Image
this design isn’t one of Kirby’s winners. Image
this is issue five and there’s already a secret asteroid base for the evil mutants, even Fantastic Four was more grounded than this at first. Image
I didn’t realise that there were seeds planted for Wanda and Pietro’s face turn for the very beginning. I don’t think Stan and Jack were thinking that far ahead, but it’s there in the text that them joining the Avengers makes complete sense. Image
and people say they can’t see the Kirby influence in Liefeld’s style… Image
I’m gonna get this framed and put it on my desk at work. Image
I’ve been listening to early episodes of @CerebroCast and Connor often jokes that with the sliding timescale, each class of mutants must have only been in school for a couple of weeks.

However, it only takes the O5 seven issues to graduate, so he might be onto something. Image
how it started vs how it’s going ImageImage
I love that Magneto is so committed to his whole vibe that he hasn’t thought about just *not* wearing the costume. Image
Hank’s giving them away for free! Image
yup, definitely nothing in these old issues that suggest Bobby Drake is gay… Image
the bad guy not receiving any actual consequences outside of “and I hope you’ve learned your lesson!” for nearly destroying the world is a very apt example of how Xavierism is centrism. Image
I think X-Men #12 is the first “good” issue of the series.

Xavier learns his brother is on his way to the mansion and instructs the students to create barricades to stop him. As the professor teases out his origin story, he’s interrupted by the barricades falling one by one. Image
Kirby draws this cop who is disgruntled with Xavier to look *exactly like* Xavier. Image
Mister Sinister, eat your heart out. Image
Mimic’s outfit is one of the best worst costumes. Image
imagine if Lucifer caught on as Xavier’s nemesis instead of Magneto. Image
I love that Lucifer’s costume is just Party City Magneto. Image
someone needs to bring back Colosso. Image
given the calibre of villains, I’m surprised thus book wasn’t cancelled much, much earlier. Image
okay I’m quite into this look Image
gotta give him credit, Greg Land drew an incredibly accurate Banshee judging by the character’s first appearance. ImageImage
Yeah, Bobby. You’re absolutely right. I’m sure they won’t ever be a problem in the future. Image
what an interesting mix of stone cold classic iconic looks and instantly irrelevant forgettable duds. Image
you start to sense Marvel losing faith in the X-Men in ‘68 when the title of the comic takes a backseat on the trade dress. ImageImageImageImage
ah yes, who can forget Toad’s signature weapon… Image
I’m gonna guess Don Heck drew this Marvel Style unaware that Quicksilver can’t fly and Gary Friedrich had to figure out how to make it work in the story. Image
I dunno, this sounds like a stupid idea. Image
Hank would make a killing on OnlyFans. Image
the change in logo from #49 to #50 immediately makes the book feel so much more exciting and modern. ImageImage
I always assumed Polaris being Magneto’s daughter was a retcon because of their similar powers, not something that was retconned and then retconned back. Image
what an opening page Image
finally, the most iconic character design in superhero comics Image
this is the first time Marvel Girl’s dress has shoulders and we have Barry Windsor-Smith to thank for it, who I didn’t know drew X-Men this early. Image
nothing makes more sense than Alex Summers being imperilled and almost naked within literally three pages of his first appearance. Image
I didn’t realise that the iconic Dark Phoenix cover was an homage. Image
Neal Adams is here and he did not come to fuck around holy shit Image
Neal Adams coming on this book feels such massive leap forward for the series. It looks so much more sophisticated and modern. Image
There’s still seven more issues to go but I kinda wish this was the finale of the series as it brings back all the mutants we’ve met over the previous 58 issues as the Sentinels seem completely unstoppable. Image
this thread is just turning into Neal Adams pages that fuckin whip Image
it’s so weird that this original run just ends with a random fight with The Hulk and then there’s no original X-Men stories for half a decade. Image
it’s time Image
I love how Wein and Cockrum kick off with Kurt on the first page, completely redefining what a mutant could be immediately. Image
at the height of the Cold War there’s no indication that Piotr’s life or beliefs are in anyway inferior to western society and his family are both completely fine with his mutancy and actively encourage him to widen his experience by going to the states. Image
in a couple of decades you’re all gonna look back at this and laugh Image
I didn’t realise until now that Thunderbird died from punching a plane until it exploded. Image
KIERROK THE SHATTERER OF SOULS would be a pretty good Halloween username for me. Image
give Moira a gun more often Image
I love it when iconic dynamics between characters are there right from the start. Image
“who was the first on-panel Fastball Special against?” would be a really good trivia question. Image
you can pinpoint the exact moment in which Logan falls in love with Jean. Image
boyfriends 😍 Image
there’s no heterosexual explanation for this Image
in the words of @CerebroCast, “don’t worry about it” Image
no matter how much credit Dave Cockrum gets, it will never, ever be enough. Image
I had this image on a t-shirt when I was like 18 Image
is this reference to Rodan the first inkling we get that Wolverine is SUPER into Japanese stuff? Image
I love how cohesive yet individualistic Alpha Flight’s designs are. Image
Colossus’ self-doubt is the most interesting sub-plot in these early Claremont/Byrne issues. I’m really into it. Image
“You are Scott Summers.” Image
“So I made the costume red because he’s a communist, and it’s dungarees to convey his working class roots. Then to make sure people didn’t miss it, we added the CCCP and a hammer and sickle but Shooter thought it wasn’t enough, so added in the Lenin head to round it all out.” Image
I think you can specifically pinpoint Logan and Kurt’s close friendship to what they went through at the hands of Proteus. I love when you can trace something so indelible to a single moment. ImageImage
I didn’t realise Kitty showed up almost a full year before the famous “Hope You Survive The Experience” cover. Image
“She’s an icon, she’s a legend and she is the moment.” Image
I don’t think it stuck, but I like the idea that Dazzler’s lightshows are like, incomprehensibly beautiful. They don’t blind you, but they leave you so dumbstruck that you’re, as Claremont says on the next page, dazzled. Image
I described this cliffhanger to Helena as “the moment Wolverine becomes the main character of the X-Men” Image
Claremont really is the gold standard of long-term plotting and this is a great example.

He could just introduce Senator Kelly later as anti-mutant and it wouldn’t seem out of place, but he’s in the Hellfire Club when Wolverine attacks, setting up his story for later. Image
superhero comics fuckin rule Image
I would love it if like, a surviving member of D’Bari came back like a Cosmic Punisher, just absolutely jacked and strapped like all of the nineties’ worst design elements crashed into a broccoli person. Image
of course this already happened Image
oh Hank, you have no idea what you’re in for forty years from now. Image
the inevitability of the X-Men’s loss to the Imperial Guard is almost oppressive throughout this issue. Image
“I thought it CRUEL” fucking hits Image
I wonder if Uncanny X-Men #138 was the inspiration for X-Men: Grand Design. Image
how often do you reckon they use “a telepathic call from Professor Xavier” to get out of conversations they’re not interested in? Image
“Time travel?! That changes everything we know about reality, which is currently that every time I die, it gets reset.” Image
also, I bet Moira shit herself when she saw Mystique, Destiny and Pyro show up. Image
I wish I could read this moment for the first time without having seen the image a million times. Image
petition to get Russell Dauterman to draw the Dark Phoenix wedding dress. Image
a perfect panel to refer back to and decanonise The Draco. Image
if you’re okay with Nightcrawler being in love with his adopted sister who pretended to be his girlfriend to stay close to him, you can be okay with Loki being in love with a version of himself from another universe. Image
this is where Mignola got the inspiration for the monkey with a gun sequence. Image
couples costume idea Image
Dave Cockrum, man. Image
yeah, there’s no easy way to say this, but there’s gotta be a better way to approach it Image
those three sweet words everyone longs to hear Image
this tension between Scott and Ororo won’t boil over until forty issues from now.

I love it. Image
this is an all-time cover but I never realised how skimpy the Binary costume is. Image
the absolute boy Image
the start of a beautiful friendship Image
I love that when it’s time for a character to have a solo mini, they actually leave the main book. Image
need to commission a saucy version of this panel Image
she’s here! Image
hmm, wonder if this is any good? Image
that’s the good shit

(fuck Frank Miller tho) Image
I have no doubt that Stryker’s rally being at Madison Square Garden is a reference to the Nazi rally hosted by the German American Bund at MSG in 1939, attended by over 20,000 Americans. ImageImage
it’s so cool how Anderson uses staging and panelling to let you know the cameras caught every second of Stryker murdering his lieutenant after finding out she’s a mutant. Image
I think this is the first time Cyclops’ blast has been drawn like a whip, which I always love. Image
I always thought Rahne was the youngest New Mutant but Roberto was only 13 at the start. I definitely think he’s written as if he’s older than her now though. Image
the visual signifier for Karma’s powers might be my favourite. Image
realistically, Rogue should have joined the New Mutants rather than the X-Men. She’s about the same age as Karma and would be better off on the team that is supposed to be about learning to control their powers rather than learning to be superheroes. Image
Scott Summers: master tactician, awful at calling ahead Image
while we all agree this is just completely iconic, it’s easy to forget that this is how Ororo shows up to a wedding and it maybe could have waited one more day. Image
what a wallop Image
I’m not sure if I’m more concerned about who took the photo or why Scott thought it was a good idea in the first place. Image
At this point Kitty is canonically fourteen and Piotr is canonically nineteen. They’ve shared maybe three or four stolen kisses at most. Colossus shouldn’t feel guilty about breaking Kitty’s heart; she’s a child and he’s an adult. Wolverine is way out of line in this issue. Image
what an entrance Image
love the way the scream peters out across the panel borders from where his mouth was to where to ends up Image
that Sienkiewicz kid sure can draw Image
I love Sal Buscema but I can’t imagine how wild it was going from New Mutants #17 to New Mutants #18. ImageImage
hmm ImageImage
I’m at a point now where I just want to read Uncanny/New Mutants and all these minis are getting in the way of that. ImageImageImage
it’s wild that this Iceman miniseries starts with a New Gods homage. Image
“there’s absolutely nothing in Bobby’s canonical history that suggests he was always a closeted gay man” Image
I mean, come on… it’s hardly subtle. Image
he just wishes he could tell his parents who he really is Image
one of my absolute favourite designs that should not work, but overwhelmingly does. Image
everything about the Karma/Shadow King story is really really iffy. Image
I really like Illyana and Warlock’s friendship Image
this Nightcrawler mini is just not doing it for me. Image
the real Wolverine should steal this catchphrase. Image
love how Romita draws Rachel as Phoenix. Image
Mystique has absolutely no chill attacking Magneto at the National Holocaust Memorial. Image
this reads like a BBC article in 2021 Image
if I was Magneto’s lawyer my number one bit of advice would be “don’t dress like a supervillain” Image
there are three things which Doctor Doom, Dracula and Loki have in common.

- supervillains
- self styled rulers
- this Image
I’m starting see why people really care about Madelyne. Image
I don’t know if my opinion of Cyclops can ever recover now that I’ve seen first-hand just how bad a husband and father he is. Image
it’s certainly interesting that Madelyne always gets mistaken for Jean buys Jean never gets mistaken for Madelyne. Image
if I ever see Scott Summers it’s on sight Image
Is my life a mess a result of my stunted adolescence and inability to communicate with those I love?

No! It’s my mutant powers that are wrong! Image
oh the places you’ll go Image
I knew “the Beyonder kills the New Mutants and it traumatises everyone” to be a thing that happened, but I didn’t know “everyone” meant the reader as well. Image
I don’t know if it’s intentional, but it’s striking how the art changes from the expressive Sienkiewicz-alike work of Rick Leonardi in #38 to the more traditional Marvel house style of Keith Pollard in #39 as the New Mutants transfer from Xavier’s to the Massachusetts Academy. ImageImage
Emma Frost’s greatest crime. Image
I imagine it’s a coincidence but I can’t help but notice that the two Hellfire Club agents in this are called Mr. Chase and Mr. Stein. Image
I have never seen Kurt howl like a wolf before. Image
I think this is the first use of “Omega” as a classification? Image
I fucking love Nimrod. Image
I have a gut feeling that Colossus is JRJr’s favourite. Image
Alan Davis is here and did not come to fuck around. Image
I did not know that Claremont introduced a character with firework powers named Jubilee about three or four years before our favourite mall babe debuted. Image
Cannonball has really struggled to find a costume that works as an adult but I think a modernised version of this could work. Image
errr, how old is Betsy supposed to be??? Image
this is a heavy one but I thought it was handled pretty well, except for Kitty dropping like five slurs at the end of the issue. Image
the boys! Image
Colossus really has a fascinating arc under Claremont and you can tell how much Romita enjoys drawing him. He might be my favourite character of this era. Image
this single image is responsible for half a decade of character design

I’ll leave you to figure out which half decade I mean. Image
love when villains realise they’re fighting Dazzler and then don’t want to because they’re a fan. Image
I never really liked Warlock but reading through the original stories, I get it a bit more. Image
I don’t care if that’s not how it works, put Don and Bill on Krakoa. Image
jesus christ Doug! Image
the way Skids thinks Scott should just get over it already Image
I love Jamie so much. As soon as a dupe decides he wants his own life, he immediately agrees and allow them to stay separate. Image
now this is how you introduce a new villain Image
🚨✨This is now a Madelyne Pryor stan account✨🚨 Image
the Simonson page layout is so sick Image
Bill should be on the new Pet Avengers team in Thor. Image
the design isn’t quite there yet but the blue and pink works so well Image
Powers of X #1 - 6 (2019) Image
the more things change, the more they stay the same Image
Simonson draws Death (not Archangel, yet) as the most badass motherfucker to every exist and Apocalypse looks like the beautiful assistant on a game show showing off what X-Factor could win. Image
such a good call that after they’ve been through, it’s a simple handgun which brings the New Mutants their first casualty. Image
I cannot believe this is the cover for the issue that immediately follows Doug’s death. Image
Betsy Braddock was famous enough to be on the cover of several magazines and dubbed Britain’s Most Beautiful Woman but not famous enough to be mentioned by name following her death. Image
as if there was any ever question that Kate was bi. Image
hey Rusty shut the fuck up Image
I just realised

THE FALL OF THE MUTANTS

New Mutants - Doug dies
Uncanny X-Men - The X-Men all die
X-Factor - The team become celebrities
they should give Colossus this costume back but keep the facial hair he currently has. Image
just gals being pals Image
it’s interesting that while Wolverine sees Maddie as a teammate and a peer, he never seems to be remotely interested in her romantically. Image
“I am En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse. In my life, I have been known by many names including Set, Huitzilopochtli, Sauru, Kali-Ma, Mak K'ina Tah Balam-Ahau, The First Light of the Mutant Dawn, The Forever Walker, and The Son of the Morning Fire,

and this my ship, Ship. Image
man this is GRIM Image
Destiny is a messy bitch who lives for drama. Image
comics should ominously foreshadow upcoming villains months in advance more Image
how can anyone read sequences like this and not feel for Madelyne? ImageImageImageImage
yes Scott, everything is ALWAYS about you. Image
I don’t think it’s what they’re doing here but Dazzler and Colossus should have a team-up move where she blasts him with light and he reflects it at people in a wide arc like a disco ball. Image
Rogue’s story in Genosha is really quite gripping. I can’t really comment on whether or not aspects of it are handled as well or as sensitively as possible, but from a narrative perspective it’s the most invested in the character I’ve been since she joined the team. Image
They talk about it in the Angel episode of @CerebroCast but I didn’t realise that Cameron Hodge’s love for Angel was as overtly notable on the page as it is. It’s not just simple jealousy, it’s romantic love and infatuation twisted into hatred. ImageImageImageImage
Magneto spends so long (YEARS!) out of the helmet, that when he puts it back on it feels like a big fucking deal. Image
the Warwolves are so funny! I didn’t expect them to be frat bros but it makes them so unique. Image
Alan Davis has a real knack for action that borders on slapstick Image
what a title page! Image
it is wild that the first time the reader learns the baby’s name, it’s from Sinister. Image
I don’t think the yanks will get this reference but I love how Davis draws Brian out of costume like Desperate Dan. Image
I was planning on only reading the X titles for Inferno, but you just can’t say no to those Daredevil tie-in issues. Image
“Hmm, that’s odd… usually the blood gets off at the second floor” Image
love this Jon Bogdanove spread from X-Terminators. Image
this remains a Madelyne Pryor stan account. Image
I don't agree with her Cable-killing policy but I do approve of her Jean-killing policy. Image
when he puts it like that it really shows what a bad place Alex is now, as a member of the Hellions. Image
this panel is gnarly as fuck but it also reminds me of one of my favourite tweets ImageImage
"Note: Gosamyr died on the way back to her home planet” Image
after twenty five years, the true main character of the X-Men has finally arrived Image
with this moment here, the upcoming heel turn in a couple of years feels a bit more logical, even if it was editorially mandated. Image
I imagine this is the same Clark and Lois from Simonson’s Thor a few years prior. Image
ROB’S HERE! Image
I wonder how many people reading this in the 21st century understand that it’s a parody of DC’s “Invasion!” event which came out around the same time as Inferno. Image
pretty bored of the Wolverine in Madripoor stuff tbh Image
Kitty meeting the slave version of herself from the Nazi world is a really striking moment. Image
Claremont and Silvestri poking fun at Logan’s hair from Havok & Wolverine: Meltdown is pretty funny. Image
pretty funny that Psylocke makes fun of Carol for the Ms. Marvel costume considering what she’ll be wearing for the next few decades.

(Carol’s personality is currently sharing Rogue’s body with her at this point, for any confused) Image
Jim Lee is here and I have a feeling nothing will ever be the same. Image
I love Joyboy SO MUCH. Image
I didn’t *get* Alan Davis for the longest time.

I get it now. Image
Remender handled the reaction to “the m word” speech incredibly poorly but you’ll never convince me it wasn’t in character for Havok to give it. Image
this page reads really interestingly with the new understanding that Magneto and Moira have been working together secretly for the past few years and now their plans have gone off the rails. Image
this like when Stan wrote an issue of Spider-Man where his name was Peter Palmer for a bit second. Image
surely this won’t be an ongoing problem for the next thirty years… Image
I do love the Lady Mandarin outfit a lot. Image
this is an intentional riff on Robin, yeah? Image
this asgard story is draaaaaaaagging Image
that’s. my. dad. Image
that’s. my. uncle. Image
I wouldn’t mind seeing La Bandera show up again, she’s a lot of fun. Image
Meggan doesn’t deserve this. Image
Liefeld’s take on Blob is terrifying. Image
I love Bonebreaker because the only thing stopping Donald Pierce from giving him cyborg legs is Bonebreaker himself, because he knows tank treads rule. Image
I love these designs for the Judge Dredd/Captain Britain mash-ups. Image
is this John Byrne ?! 🤣🤣🤣 Image
I love how much the books are crossing over without it being a crossover.

Uncanny and New Mutants both feature Masque, New Mutants and X-Factor both feature Caliban, X-Factor and Uncanny are both handling Genoshan stuff and The Shadow King is lurking everywhere. Image
😍 a Mark Chiarello cover inked by Mike Mignola?! 😍 Image
he’s here Image
I know all the criticisms but Liefeld’s work from this time just has that infectious energy that’s irresistible. It’s like a twelve year old boy who ate too many sweets took over the book, in the best way. Image
Cameron Hodge’s little cardboard suit is hilarious Image
she said the thing! Image
oh hey it’s this guy Image
Rachel Summers said ACAB Image
All Too Well (Anna Marie’s Version) Image
these Scott Lobdell fill-in issues of Excalibur prior to Davis returning are actually very good. Image
I might change my mind when I get to Adjectiveless but I completely buy Magneto’s entire arc under Claremont, including the turn back towards villainy. Image
“what are we, some kind of X-Force?” Image
this probably should have been Claremont’s finale Image
HOT DAMN Image
I could be wrong but I *think* this is the first hint towards Cable’s true identity, and it’s in a crossover story with the New Warriors. Image
Cable triples in width as soon as X-Force #1 hits and I love it. Image
if I had to explain Excalibur to someone with two out of context panels… Image
I always confuse Trevor Fitzroy and Fabian Cortez because they’re both dudes who have regular ass names, but it certainly doesn’t help that they debut in the same month. ImageImage
mid-90s Romita Jr drawing Cable is 🤌 Image
Moira messing with Magneto’s DNA as a baby feels like a really unnecessary retcon when his turn back towards villainy feels natural. Image
Madrox is a top five mutant for me but I’ve never read the original X-Factor run. I’m excited to see him grow as a character. Image
there’s an abundance of Cable covers and pin-ups by Mike Mignola in this era. I was only one at the time but it feels made for me. Image
the balloon placement in this era has my eyes wandering all over the page trying to read dialogue in the right order. Image
and with that, Chris Claremont leaves the X-Men. Image
You can’t see it, but Havok is just out of shot, furiously making notes Image
would you believe that, outside of flashbacks, Toad doesn’t appear in an X-Men comic between 1969 and 1991? Image
I’d be really interested in seeing how the current political hostility towards mutants in Britain has affected Micromax. Image
“They look at me and laugh! I have no idea why.” Image
absolutely wild that Mignola does a full story in X-Force in-between Liefeld issues. Image
I wonder if you could tie Widget and Unit together somehow. I see a LOT of similarities in design here. ImageImage
I know some people find it frustrating but I love reading something and knowing it won’t be resolved for five years. Image
every character should have a core thing about them that remains consistent throughout their existence.

Bishop is a time traveller, Bishop is a cop, but most importantly, Bishop is an X-Men stan. Image
I really don’t like this subplot. I can rationalise it, but it doesn’t feel like Betsy. Image
I just found out the Cyber’s real name is Si Burr. Image
that is a legit murderer’s row of pencillers holy shit Image
we were truly blessed in the early 90s Image
this is the future conservatives think liberals want Image
the yaasification of Mojo Image
does it ever come up again that mutants just heal faster than regular people as standard, regardless of mutation? Image
and here… we… go… Image
how do you pronounce X-Cutioner’s Song?
I miss when villains had simple motivations… Image
do you reckon there were people that were like “Charles Xavier should really use his platform and influence to lift up mutant voices instead of talking over them” Image
the greatest moment in X-Men history Image
two pages later you get this absolute all-timer for Stryfe.

what a great issue of comics. Image
Meggan rules. Image
I never understood why they don’t just move the split word onto the next line or make the box bigger. Image
I’m so used to Jae Lee’s art looking so posed that it’s essentially static, but there’s a dynamism to his early 90s work that I did not expect to see. Image
had people figured out Stryfe’s deal at this point or did they just think he was a big ol’ weirdo who liked to force feed people with baby food? Image
I need to work “stab your eyes” into more conversations Image
there are no words… ImageImageImageImage
the Xavier/Jubilee sequence after X-Cutioner’s Song is really sweet. ImageImageImageImage
Betsy! Scott just discovered that his son survived travelling to the future where he was raised in a dystopian wasteland and grew up to be wither Stryfe or Cable. He doesn’t need this right now. Image
love seeing Sam come into his own as a leader. Image
“Prepare for my arrival… very soon”

Peter David would not return to this subplot for fourteen years. Image
when Moira X’s real role is eventually revealed to Krakoa there’s a number of characters I hope we get to see react to it, including Wolfsbane, Banshee and Multiple Man. Image
X- Men (2019) #2 [Hickman/Yu] Image
there’s a saying when it comes to X-Men, “every mutant is someone’s favourite” but I think even @CerebroCast would struggle to find someone willing to talk at length about fucking Fitzroy. Image
🤢🤢🤢 Image
they’re literally at Eagle Plaza in Dallas, the same place the X-Men, led by Storm, sacrificed themselves on live tv to stop The Adversary and save the world.

If any one city in America should love the X-Men and Storm specifically, it’s Dallas. Image
What do you mean, start killing? Colossus had a whole subplot about how he killed Riptide during the Mutant Massacre! Image
I don’t know that we ever fully appreciated that GW Bridge’s full name is George Washington Bridge. Image
I’m really curious at to what everyone else thinks, but I think I prefer Stryfe as the original and Cable as the clone.

It’s more tragic for Scott that his son grew up a villain, but inspiring that a clone of that villain grew up to be one of the X-Men’s greatest heroes. Image
man, Colossus had a ROUGH 1993. Image
would his healing factor not prevent him from getting a sore back? Image
man, I don’t blame you Piotr. Image
me in my early twenties Image
this didn’t hit as hard as I expected, but everyone I know that counts it as an important, formative moment experienced it when they were like 12.

That’s not a dig. I wish I could read comics like a 12 year old again. Image
Tempo is so relatable. Image
now this looks like a cool dude with the kind of attitude I can get behind! Image
I don’t know if anyone can supplant Legion as my favourite mutant, but Colossus is DEFINITELY the character I’ve grown to appreciate more during this project and he’s absolutely one of my favourites now. Image
the most realistic part of the mutant metaphor is that whenever a news or debate show covers issues regarding a marginalised community, they don’t invite anyone from the community themselves and instead invite a pundit and a bigot. Image
if you’re trying to rationalise Hank’s shift from the bouncing Beast to full blown war criminal, I definitely think it starts here. Image
I don’t know if it’s intentional, but it seems this is setting up Onslaught like two years before that crossover hits, even before Phalanx Covenant and Age of Apocalypse. Image
no-one prepared me for the fact that a lot of these Scott Lobdell issues are really fucking good.

This issue, Uncanny #309, is one of the best single issues I’ve read since I started with X-Men #1. Image
no snark, this was really nice Image
I love the family vibe of this era. Image
that’s an interesting sample number… Image
“there’s absolutely nothing from the nineties that suggest Rictor and Shatterstar are anything other than very good friends…” Image
I’m a big fan of Alien riffs and this issue is a great one with Cable as the Xenomorph hunting down the Acolytes. Image
it would have been really funny if Scott and Jean fell face first into the water and drowned while their minds were in the future. Image
“One more time, then. For the children.” Image
I swear Warpath gets larger and larger every issue. He’s as big as Guido now! Image
oooh, Tim Sale on a Bishop back-up story! Image
what does Magneto think about serving on the Quiet Council alongside his onetime biggest stan? Image
these costumes are… something else Image
as soon as Mike Wieringo gets his hands on Dani, he immediately redesigns the costume to something more appropriate to the character while keeping the mysterious aspect of her MLF run. ImageImage
👀👀👀 Image
one of my favourite obscure fun facts that people forget about is that Cable is a licensed lawyer. Image
a Panini reprint of this was probably the first X-Men comic I ever read. Image
of all the villains granted amnesty on Krakoa, Emplate was one that made me go “ehhh, maybe not him…” Image
“Dear Mr. Hickman, there are too many mutants named Genesis. Please eliminate three. I am not a crackpot." Image
the last issue I read ended with everything turning crystal and now all the X-Men look weird on this cover what’s going on? Image
I’ve read AoA before but never with the context of the preceding stories and it makes it so much better. Subplots from the main timeline like Iceman struggling with reaching his potential and Sabretooth trying to control his bloodlust are flipped on their head here. Image
it’s a good thing AoA Colossus wears a mask. Someone might recognise him. Image
it’s really interesting seeing artists who won’t break BIG for another decade find themselves and their own style during the nineties, and what their work looks like during such an aesthetically divisive era. Image
it’s really surprising that nearly 30 years after AoA, the 616 version of Elizabeth Guthrie still hasn’t manifested powers. Image
this is a really good reveal. Image
regardless of universe or timeline, Colossus just can’t catch a break. Image
Aww man, poor Rusty. He’s been through so much only to die in two seconds. He must be on Krakoa now, right? Image
“something LGBT just happened to me” Image
Roberto’s costume here HAS to be a joke, right? Image
I can’t wait for the @CerebroCast episode on Sugar Man in ten years time. Image
fun fact: @Hachiee won’t let me buy the Sugar Man action figure because it’s too scary. Image
I just think he’s neat! Image
Emma Frost fucking kicks a seven year old in the head and knocks him out to get her powers back and save them both. How is this not considered one of the most iconic Emma moments? Image
I don’t love Jeph Loeb’s absolute chokehold on all titles associated with Cable, but I do not mind that he brought Tim Sale with him. Image
I only really knew Kitty from Astonishing onwards so while I’d heard the Wisdom stuff was iffy, I didn’t fully get how uncomfortable it was.

Now I’m in the midst of reading it, I fully get it; Kitty is, or should be, 16 *at most* currently. Image
I hate how they keep talking about Amelia “avoiding her responsibilities” when Charles neglected and abused her. Image
before the world discovers that mutants have conquered death, it’d be interesting to see a resurrected mutant with human parents have to deal with not being able to visit their family. Image
really enjoying Tim Sale’s take on the classic yellow and blue. Image
this was the cover of the first comic I ever read and as such it’s burned into my brain Image
I think you could do something interesting linking Otherworld and Avalon to the Cassidy Keep/Elsespace stuff from Generation X, with Pixie and her background acting as a bridge between the two concepts. Image
if I ever get to write Cable, I’m establishing that Blaquesmith is a future version of Murd Blurdock. Image
the most unrealistic thing about Excalibur is that it took 91 issues for the British superhero team to go to the pub. Image
I mean COME ON Image
I’ve generally been on Piotr’s side through everything but man he comes off terribly here. Image
Havok’s look in the Mackie/Epting run on X-Factor is so cool. I love the absolute jet black costume with the white circles that faces the reader at all times. Image
I thought he wasn’t coming to X-Men comics for another decade? Image
I really hate this retcon.

You know that really awful country where the humans have segregated the mutants into a genetically altered slave caste? Actually, it was this giant potato monster with four arms from an alternate timeline all along. Image
this is Emma creating illusions of those closest to Bobby and speaking through them, straight up calling Opal Tanaka a beard. Image
I like how you can tell Hank is actually Dark Beast just from his smile. Image
the best part about the Storm mini is that Cable spends the entire thing wracked with guilt because he couldn’t save her and wishes he got to know her better, but everyone that does know her is just like “yeah, she’s probably alive somewhere, we’re not too worried” Image
daddy Image
dunno if we needed to revisit this Image
I’ve found it, the dumbest and best named character in all of superhero comics! Image
regardless of where the story goes from here, as a stand-alone moment this rules. Image
I’m constantly surprised at just how overt Rictor/Shatterstar was for the mid-90s. There’s literally no other way you can read this caption. Image
obsessed with John Paul Leon’s design for Apocalypse. Image
I never thought of Kurt as a leader in the way that Scott or Ororo are but he’s really come into his own since taking over command of Excalibur. Image
it’s really funny to me that the comics of this era tried really hard to get “McCoy” to stick for this version of the character but fans called him “Dark Beast” so much that it just became what everyone called him. Image
has anyone ever pointed out that Mark Waid just recycled The Xavier Protocols for Batman as part of Tower of Babel? Image
the glam rock vampire scientist didn’t really need a tragic backstory Image
is it just me or does 1996 Ariel Olivetti looks A LOT like 2004 John Cassaday? Image
I know it’s been a word for decades and decades but seeing the Juggernaut use “gaslight” in 1996 threw me for a loop. Image
don’t get me wrong it’s one of my favourite designs but this is one of the few times Sinister has actually looked, well, sinister. Image
I know people don’t like Major X being Storm and Cable’s son but there’s definitely a spark between them in the mid-90s. I don’t necessarily ship them but it’s not something that would come out of nowhere. Image
I love J. Jonah Jameson. Image
The only thing better than Iceman going undercover as “Drake Roberts” is Cannonball going undercover with his own fucking name. Image
“best friend” Image
one of my favourite bits in the Marvel Universe is a character not realising they’ve just walked past Frank Castle. Image
I know everyone hates Joseph but he’s really sweet! Image
guys this is pretty weird Image
the sensational character find of 1997! Image
Lardronn is going his best imitation but imagine how much Kirby’s take on Cable would have ruled. Image
I appreciate that even editorial admits to not knowing what the fuck was going on with Reignfire. Image
I hope Everett gets the chance to meet T’Challa now. Image
I love this cover with the two shadows coming off of Monet. Image
Remy’s a scumbag for this one. “Nah, let’s not talk about my role in the mutant massacre, let me take your virginity instead” Image
This era does a great job of getting here.

It starts out slow with hints that of a dark secret, then over the course of two years they tease out enough clues for the reader to put enough of it together, but then there’s another year of tension waiting for the X-Men to find out. Image
I’m a massive fan of Cecilia Reyes after this issue. Image
Honestly I hate Nate Grey. I know the phrase doesn’t mean anything but he feels like the definition of a Mary Sue and I don’t understand how his comic ran for seventy issues Image
Sabra’s on my shitlist now. Image
Sarah has surprisingly nice handwriting. Image
nice, thanks for that, I was a bit lost Image
It’s weird seeing Cassaday drawing Logan, Scott, Kitty and Piotr like six years before Astonishing. Image
the reveal (in 1998) that Bastion is what happened when the merged Master Mold/Nimrod was forced through the Siege Perilous (in 1989) is so satisfying.

I love when plot threads get picked up like this, especially as Bastion had been around for two or three years at this point. Image
is it even pondering if you don’t have an orb? Image
I love the Lady Mandarin helmet so much. Image
Mystique fucking rules. Image
wait, so Danger wasn’t even an original idea?! Image
I’ve heard a lot of things about this series. Let’s see what it’s all about. Image
this issue spending like two pages referring to Juggernaut as a mutant is a great example of how sloppy and slapdash this era feels. It’s the least I’ve enjoyed X-Men since I started. Image
I don’t have a picture to go with it but two things that I really don’t like I’m X-Men comics are

1) when kids have the same powers as their parents, like Siryn
2) image inducers used by characters like Nightcrawler and Beast
it’s always weird to me when a non-telepath uses Cerebro. Image
I’ve been trying to think of which mutant has absolutely no fans whatsoever and I think it might be Post. Image
Cable and Stryfe suit a pseudo-Kirby style so well. Image
JH Williams drawing Stryfe is a dream come true. Image
I also really like JHW’s costume for Nate Grey. It reminds of the Alex Ross designs from this era that were never used. Image
I really like The Brute, he’s a classically tragic figure in a way that Marvel does best.

This might be the best direction to take 616 Hank if they ever want to bring back the Bouncing Beast of 70s. Take away his intelligence for a time and have him come out the other side. Image
it takes a lot to shock me in superhero comics but I cannot believe they introduced an Indian mutant with fire powers and gave him the codename “Vindaloo” Image
everyone talks about how Superman has the worst kept secret identity but Charles Xavier was supposedly unaffiliated with the X-Men, as far as the public was concerned, until 2001 Image
I’m glad Joseph got a funeral and a send-off. Whatever happens with the character from here, he was a sweet boy who just wanted to help people m Image
Alan Davis is one of the greatest Galactus artists. Image
1) I don’t like sexy Marrow

2) does she have bone panties? Image
love this as a go-to move for Magneto whenever he’s mildly inconvenienced. Image
I. HATE. IMAGE. INDUCERS. Image
I love Douglock the same way I love Joseph. They’re both soft boys with good intentions who got fucked over by the decision to bring back more popular incarnations of themselves as separate characters. Image
after Onslaught, I don’t think Charles has much of a right to act like this much of an asshole to the team. Image
I can’t believe this series was popular enough that they not only extended it from a maxi series but that it got an additional twenty issues. Image
Lorna deserves so much better than this Image
I’ve never liked Jean Grey much but this scene put some stuff in perspective and I have a handle on her now. The way her parents approach her treatment as a teenager really reads like a well intentioned couple trying to figure out the best way to help their neurodivergent child. Image
(I say this as someone who was diagnosed with autism as an adult, which ended up being a very liberating discovery for me. I don’t know if I’d go to far as to say “Jean Grey *is* neurodivergent but I think it’s an interesting lens to interpret the character.)
(There’s also a lot of research and anecdotal stories about how teen girls specifically are diagnosed at a much lower rate and are forced to learn to mask from a very young age. I think a lot of that could apply to Jean throughout pivotal moments in her life.)
(Part of the reason I wouldn’t want to go so far as to say Jean does have autism or is neurodivergent is the same reason that I don’t like Legion being autistic in those early New Mutants stories. These are fictional fantasy characters with magic brains, at the end of the day.)
(I am curious to hear people’s responses and thoughts to this because I’m more than willing to be very wrong about it, but it’s something that just hit me that I never considered before)
Steve Rude drawing the Avenging Angel costume 😍 Image
“Oh no! Anyway…” Image
It’s very funny that the most important development of the Krakoan Age, the idea of mutants using their powers together as a circuit to achieve something no single mutant could accomplish, comes from one of the most mocked and unnecessarily convoluted storylines of all time. Image
additionally it’s really funny that The Twelve are ten of the most important mutants in the franchise’s history plus Colossus’ brother and THE LIVING MONOLITH. Image
(the above tweet is very generous to Sunfire, just let him have it)
this is an INSANE lettering decision Image
Cable’s journey over the course of a decade to the point where he can say “I am an X-Man, like my father” has me crying in the club rn Image
it’s hilarious that Toad gets hot when loses his powers. Image
Kitty Pryde once again with one of the ugliest costumes I have ever seen. Image
Sam that facial hair is not working for you. Image
knowing that Warren Ellis plotted and oversaw X-Force in 2000 actually makes what he did to Tabby in Nextwave even worse. Image
I’m thinking maybe Warren Ellis shouldn’t have been allowed to take over the fun kids in school comic. Image
I just keep repeating “Morrison in a year, Morrison in a year” like a mantra. Image
did Ellis just take all his unused ideas for The Doctor in The Authority and give them to Steven Grant to use in X-Man? Image
I hate how The Hidden Years keeps doing “what if [classic moment] happened earlier?!” Image
oh man imagine going to see X-Men in theatres then picking up Revolution era Uncanny because the cover tells you it’s gonna be similar. Image
oh hey it’s @stevewmorris’s two faves! Image
Claremont loves using fat body types as a shorthand for evil so much that he put two of them on the same team of baddies! Image
this sequence inspired a revelation: James Proudstar should be the Superman of Krakoa. Image
ya like jazz? Image
I love it when Rogue is a capital-s Superhero Image
He’s here! Broccoli Punisher is here! Image
man, I hope nothing bad happens to Everett in this issue… Image
uh oh Image
it’s weird that Morrison is going to introduce a different mutant power enhancing drug in like six months time… Image
it’s hilarious that in twenty years we’re going to learn the one person who Logan can keep alive through blood transfusions… is Mora MacTaggert. Image
do you ever have to psychically fuck the dying alien simulacrum of your ex-girlfriend because you’re adopted daughter is watching and can’t know that said ex-girlfriend is actually still alive? Image
dropping the line “let [Xavier] learn what it’s like to play Cassandra” less than six months before New X-Men starts is the funniest shit. Image
Colossus became one of my favourite characters across this project and his death is a perfect ending to his story.

He should have stayed dead and then the first mutant resurrected on Krakoa. Image
I thought this was Cable, but it’s Sam. Image
thirty mediocre issues of Mutant X were worth it for this moment. Image
the gap in-between X-Men (2000) and New X-Men is really interesting because you see them playing with the aesthetics of the film but it’s not gonna coalesce until Morrison and Quitely blow the doors off in a few months. Image
Trish Tilby using a report on the Legacy Virus cure and Moira’s death to call Hank a “lesser mind” is brilliant. Image
(I think this might actually be Hank himself being quoted, but it’s funnier if it isn’t)
I know people think Planet X is out of character for Magneto but is it a real leap to think that he went from this to Planet X following the flash genocide of his people? Image
this is a great cover Image
these four comics coming out in the same month really feels like the X-Men entering the 21st century finally, for better and for worse. ImageImageImageImage
I understand the backlash this book got. The previous incarnation of X-Force stretches back to 1982 when you include New Mutants and now all of a sudden everyone is maybe dead and it’s a whole new book with a whole new team full of shitty people.

I love this run, but I get it. Image
I hope Ugly John is on Krakoa. Image
love the implication that Chuck is always strapped, just in case.

He got that from Moira for sure. Image
it’s sad that there’s essentially a second mutant massacre that no-one remembers because Cassandra Nova raises the stakes so dramatically like a week later. Image
X-Force predicting Zuckerbuck nearly six or seven years early. Image
I’m hindsight, Boom Boom should have joined X-Force/X-Statix as a bit of continuity between teams and it could have served as a bridge between who she was and who Ellis turned her into in Nextwave. Image
the genocide of Genosha is a more obvious moment to point out “this is where we realised Cassandra wasn’t fucking around” but to me the way she kills Trask is so intimate, weird and horrifying that it stands as the first moment you realise she’s playing a whole different game. Image
imagine if this was the last thing you saw before waking up on Krakoa. Image
I’ve read this run at least a dozen times but it’s a really interesting new perspective to read it as if it was coming out monthly, with the context of also reading everything in the line that was coming out around it. Image
how can you not just adore her? Image
this is one of my favourite Cyclops moments. The first time he interrupts and overrules Xavier.

It’s not played as a monumental scene but it’s essentially the moment where a child overtakes their parent and it sets up the next twenty years of Scott’s publication history. Image
how old were you when you realised “U-Men” is a play on words on “human”? Image
Powers of X #1 - 6 (2019) Image
I only found out a couple of weeks ago that Stacy-X’s name is “ecstasy” spoonerised. Image
I like the Mastermind sisters but did Claremont just not know that Jeph Loeb already gave Wyngarde a daughter? It’s weird that he essentially came up with a character that already exists. Image
I don’t know if this character ever shows up again but she should hang out with Eye Boy. Image
Gambit mentions he’s fought Lady Mastermind before but, at least on page, he’s fought Martinique and not Regan.

My theory is that Claremont intended “Martinique Jason” to be an alias for Regan Wyngarde and they were actually supposed to be the same character. Image
I’m shocked it took Claremont this long to introduce a character with mutant bondage abilities. Image
Jean’s hair billowing out into a Phoenix is such a cool motif. Image
reading the other NUFF SAID issues really puts in perspective how good NXM 121 is.

I had to look up an issue summary for this; apparently these are all Madrox dupes? Wild Image
oh wow this issue of Iceman has super early Skottie Young work. Image
the art in Iceman v2 looks more like a webcomic about straight white dudes who play video games Image
This is a brilliant use of a double page spread. Smasher lands on Earth after Cassandra has decimated the imperium and tries to warn the Earthlings about the coming danger, but he doesn’t know what cows are and doesn’t understand how alone he is as he dies. Help is not coming. Image
oh yeah, I’m a big fan of Academy X, especially *checks notes* Mercury and Surge. ImageImage
Lifeguard and Darwin should be Krakoan emergency services! Image
this is the most relatable Jean Grey has ever been. Image
simply iconic Image
Warren should just have a bazooka more often. If it was good enough for the cover of X-Men #1… Image
honestly I actually really like Lifeguard, so far she’s my favourite of Claremont’s modern creations and I think it’s a shame more wasn’t done with her. Image
I think everyone knows “Jason Aaron won a contest and wrote a Wolverine story YEARS before he became one of the most iconic Wolverine writers” but it puts it in perspective when you say “Jason Aaron’s first Wolverine story came out contemporaneously with Morrison’s New X-Men” Image
it’s so good that all of Xorn’s acts of healing can be attributed to Magneto’s powers, once you realise who’s under the helmet. Image
it’s so weird that Monet is still wearing a variation of the X-Corps costume twenty years later. I didn’t even realise that’s where it came from but it’s so associated with her now I don’t think it’ll ever change significantly. Image
it’s wild that Monet wasn’t immediately added to the Uncanny roster full time after this story and this issue in particular. Image
if I could give someone just one issue of X-Men to read, it’d be this one. Image
I’m a pretty big defender of Igor Kordey who is a talented artist that was put in a rough spot with very little time to work but I wish literally anyone else drew this one page.

Well, maybe not the racist, but almost anyone else. Image
Arlo Summers, the fifth Summers Brother. Image
and the best subtitle award goes to… Image
oh man Soldier X #1 is SUPER racist Image
oh no Image
Austen thinks Cassidy Keep, ancestral home of *SEAN CASSIDY* aka *BANSHEE*, is in Scotland.

Great start, Chuck. Image
Cain calling Black Tom his “partner” doesn’t sound like the denial of a relationship, if anything it sounds gayer. Good for them. Image
it’s interesting that the first example of young mutants idolising Magneto post-Genosha isn’t in New X-Men, it’s in a Chamber miniseries by Brian K. Vaughan. Image
what the hell happened to Wild Child?! I must have missed something. Image
I can’t see why people hated Stacy so much. Image
god, Slipstream sucks SO MUCH Image
Sarah’s giving them away for free! Image
what must Bobby have been thinking during Hank’s little stunt? Image
I’m honestly impressed at the restrain exhibited by all the creators who haven’t told a “Quentin’s real parents” story. Image
Nurse Annie has been there two days and has already clocked Bobby. Image
I fucking hate this mutant concentration camp story so much Image
Nick Derington wrote and drew an X-Statix story way back in 2003! Image
RIP Dummy. Image
while we would all prefer Quitely drew the whole run, you can’t say they didn’t save him for the issues where he’d have the most impact. Image
man, Kitty does love giving this speech. Image
holy shit Emma you can’t say that! Image
this so funny

robber #1: terrified of not being able to provide for his family
robber #3: terrified of disappointing his mother
robber #2: terrified of spiders! Image
I have a lot of thoughts about the supposed irredeemablity of Quentin Quire. There’s not enough room to get into it all in a single tweet but if we can forgive Magneto, Emma and Apocalypse then Quentin deserves his second chance. Image
El Guapo should team up with Moon Knight in a story by writer Steven Grant and artist Robbi Rodriguez Image
it’s interesting that Morrison never uses the name “Apocalypse” Image
the funny thing about Claremont getting annoyed at how Morrison characterised Sage’s powers while they’re both writing her is that it was the former who described her having a “computer brain” but the latter absolutely knows more about computers in 2003. Image
wow this really comes from nowhere Image
it might be because I’m a good ol’ Catholic boy, but the exploding communion wafer aspect of this grand scheme is genuinely hilarious Image
Allred will always be the definitive, but I do love that arguably the most iconic Doop panel is Darwin Cooke. Image
this is interesting having read everything up to this point because I always read this as the dancer representingJean, but that’s not how I read it anymore.

I don’t think this is what Morrison was going for, but this reads to me as Maddie. ImageImageImageImage
Alex has had some bad costumes in his time but hoo boy this one’s a stinker. Image
Bobby going on the Lorna’s hen night rather than Alex’s stag do is the most 00s code for “he gay” there is, evidenced by the fact that Jean-Paul is also there. Image
this is insane

“I was never going to fuck Bobby because he’s obviously gay also Alex fucking suuuuuucks in bed” Image
this issue is insane. Beast continuing his exploration into sexy cat ladies after he fell in love with a humanoid house cat is one thing but Kurt joking about Warren being a nonce is where I draw the line. Image
I’ve got to respect Lorna for never ever half-assing the opportunity to be incredibly dramatic. Image
that Summers Brother line is hilarious. Image
“we’ve got this new Emma Frost series. It’s a thoughtful and moving coming of age story about the girl who grows up to be one of the most powerful and prominent mutant women and we specifically want this to be something young women want to read, so who should draw the covers?” Image
Ultimaton’s design is absolute fire. Image
I’ve been reading superhero comics for over fifteen years and this is still my favourite twist. Image
oh dear god no

I thought I had more time Image
is Nightcrawler supposed to be 19?! Image
it’s criminal that Sean Phillips had to draw this dross. Image
to give Austen credit, the Juggeenaut stuff is pretty good. Image
I take it back because everyone knows Juggernaut is a proud out gay man with a husband whom he loves. Image
Manuel growing up to be Roberto’s head of PR is pretty funny. Image
I did not realise Elixir started out as a wannabe Reaver 😬 Image
Greg Rucka takes over Wolverine and immediately introduces a badass ladycop who is the real main character of the book, who’d have guessed? Image
“Magneto is out of character in Planet X”

Prior to this he conscripted Genoshan mutants into an army, crucified Xavier and was stabbed in the spine by Wolverine, leaving him paralysed. Immediately after that he was at ground zero of a genocide. I think he’s in character. Image
also if he is out of character, he’s literally on drugs and the drugs are also a sentient bacteria from the dawn of man hellbent in wiping out mutants.

this is also why I think Quentin deserves a break for what his does during the riot. If you wanna blame anyone, blame Sublime. Image
why does the art get good for one panel? Image
they really didn’t need to make the glam rock frankenstein dracula into a Nazi.

the issue is even called “Sinister’s List” for heaven’s sake! Image
the issue isn’t anywhere near as sexy as you want it to be Image
kids these days don’t understand but this was the height of humour in online comics communities in the late 00s. Image
I love moments that are like

“Look around, there’s no [superhero team] left!”
“well I guess that makes us the [superhero team]” Image
another point for the “Magneto’s out of character” discussion: he’s haunted by his better angels in the form of Xorn’s voice trying to remind him that he’s better than this. You could even read it as Xorn’s influence fighting against Sublime’s. Image
the full circle moment of Cassandra Nova being the one to tell Magneto that his ideas are shit and he’s going to fail is so satisfying. Image
The Draco is so much worse when you have to read it contemporaneously with Planet X. Image
I usually hate it when Claremont acts like nothing significant happened since the last time he had a character but I kinda respect that he just pretends “Allison Crestmere” never happened. Image
“so we’ve got this character who debuted in the cartoon, she’s a teen girl clone of Wolverine and people are just nuts about her! We gotta introduce her into the Marvel Universe proper somehow, anyone got any ideas as to how this TEENAGE GIRL from a KID’S SHOW should debut?” Image
thinking about it, I don’t know if Scott has ever had a best friend like he had with Xorn. Warren, Bobby and Hank are his friends from high school, Alex is his long-lost brother and Logan is a frenemy.

Xorn is the friend Scott needed after The Twelve, and it was all a lie. Image
no twenty-first century Magneto story has been good enough for this to not have been the last Magneto story. Image
If you want to redeem Beast, you could turn his fur white and say he’s been influenced by Sublime since around Endangered Species and give him a bit of a factory reset. It doesn’t fully redeem him but it gets rid of the worst stuff. Image
a Sublime takes on Krakoa story feels inevitable, surely? Image
to go a step further; every single 21st century Magneto story after Planet X would have been better with Lorna in that role. Image
I must admit, this is the first time during reading all this that I’ve been really nostalgic, even if it doesn’t hold up. Image
okay Wolverine’s line gave me a hearty chuckle Image
gals being pals Image
I don’t hate this costume. If you got rid of the collar, this could work for Sam. Image
credit where credit’s due; great line, great delivery, great execution Image
if Hank cured himself of his mutation would he still be blue and furry? Image
pretty funny considering what Julian has in store a few years from now… Image
🚨🚨🚨 PEEPERS ALERT 🚨🚨🚨 Image
I hate that Whedon’s run acts like there are only five X-Men living in the mansion instead of the largest concentration of team members living together since the start of the franchise. Image
Colossus should have stayed dead until Krakoa and in the intervening years he should have been raised up as a martyr by the mutant community.

I really don’t think enough was done celebrating Piotr’s sacrifice, but I guess it’s not common knowledge to the mutant on the street. Image
Piotr died in January 2001 and came back in July 2004. In universe, he was only dead for like six months at most. Image
I always thought this moment was cringe but having read the original Claremont, Piotr was doing this shit all time, especially under JR Jr. Image
I’ve been a pretty big advocate for Cain/Tom but now I don’t know if I can ever forgive Black Tom for this and I can’t see how Cain ever would. Image
Claremont will never refuse an opportunity to reference X-Men: True Friends. Image
👏LIKE👏BOOKENDS👏OF👏THE👏SAME👏SOUL👏 Image
I still have my tpb of this mini that I picked up when I was still a teenager. Ah, the inexorable march of time… Image
do the general public know enough about the Starjammers and the Imperial Guard for them to be staff costumes at a mutant themed club? Seems more like a contrived way to explain why X-23 is in the Fang costume this issue. Image
each dupe having their own font is such a nice touch. Image
man, it sure would be cool if Abigail Brand went back to her original characterisation where she’d do absolutely anything and everything to protect the interests of the planet, no matter the cost or who she hurt or betrayed along the way… Image
god it’s so funny that she’s being extremely literal about the bullet Image
Emma says “fuck your fatphobia Rachel, your dad would still want to fuck me no matter how I look” Image
they really spent ten years trying to get us to call him anything but “Dark Beast” Image
I like to think that it was Jubilee’s phone call distracting Logan which led to him getting killed by The Hand in Enemy of the State, which is also coming out at this point. Image
put her on X-Force Image
Raimondi’s Madrox is hot. Image
😬😬😬 Image
Wikipedia says the word has been around since 1988 but it’s weird to see Mark Millar using “himbo” in 2005. Image
when you get brainwashed by The Hand you become an incel. Image
Greg’s here… Image
Alex has so many moments that read really interestingly in contrast to the M word speech. Here he’s literally saying “it’s okay if *I* say it” Image
Chris Claremont really did not miss a step between 1991 and 2005. Image
this arc should have ended immediately with Danger’s face caved in by a diamond haymaker because Emma Frost would never stoop so low as to “train” and therefore the Danger Room wouldn’t have any records of her. Image
amazing meme potential here Image
I fully do not expect him to but Jason Aaron could do some cool stuff tying in the Crystal Palace from Exiles in with the stuff he’s doing with the Superflow and Avenger Prime. Image
did a child write this dialogue? Image
this is a great one-and-done

Kitty asks Gambit to “scared straight” a couple of young mutants and instead he takes them under his wing because stealing rules. Image
not gonna lie, you’re not helping your image with this line Piotr. Image
this is kinda fascinating in the context of HoX/PoX. Image
Beak’s arc in Exiles fucking RULES Image
another series I got in trade when I was first getting into comics, fifteen years ago. Image
this is a really fun concept for a cover. Image
“Oh no, it sure would be awful if I was attracted to guys! Could you even imagine?! Me?! Iceman?! What a preposterous idea!” Image
Paul Smith’s art on Shadow and Flame is real pretty. Shame about the writer. Image
the big flaw with the decimation is that it didn’t commit to keeping enough big name mutants depowered so it didn’t feel legitimate; the mandate shone through the artifice of the story. Image
this is fascinating

this is David Aja and looks almost nothing like his work as we know jt, but you can see the recognisable style sensibilities rearing their head.

It’s also from less than a year before Immortal Iron Fist #1, for perspective. Image
John Grey’s death should not have been this funny. ImageImageImageImage
speaking of hilarious and tragic Image
pretty funny that Siryn and Guido tell each other to go to hell in the first issue of X-Factor considering where they’ll be at the end. Image
In the grand scheme of the Marvel Universe, Normandy’s not that important right? Like, surely Galactus is up there for one. Hell, even Maximum Security would be a big deal to the man on the street. Image
I got these two trades when I was 17 years old and now I’m nearly 32 💀 Image
I wish more was done to explore Peter’s trauma than two scenes across House of M #8 and Son of M #1. It’s a truly unfashionable loss. Image
🚨🚨🚨PEEPERS ALERT🚨🚨🚨 Image
this is the single best issue of comics written by Claremont since the late 80s. Image
ultimately the Decimation ended up being a metaphor for all the mutants writers tried to make work but who didn’t catch on for whatever reason. Image
Banshee’s death is so fucking stupid Image
Mystique bringing home a handpicked boyfriend for Rogue who is also a thief is so funny. It’s like when your family finds out you like giraffes and every present going forward is giraffe themed. Image
😬😬😬 Image
Rachel renting movies starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen is very funny. Image
just imagine: one minute you’re on a bus going home because you lost your powers and then you blink and you’re buck naked crawling out of an egg, covered in goo but you have your powers back also your parents aren’t allowed to know you’re alive Image
Krait is my favourite of the Death Commandos because he looks like someone that calls his dad *every day* Image
is his name “Forge” and his codename is “Maker”? ImageImageImageImage
I’ll always have a soft spot for the Inhumans because of Son of M and Silent War. It’s a real shame that Secret Invasion scuppered plans for the third part of the trilogy. Image
Theresa’s refusal to accept her father’s death because he was an X-Man is one of my favourite character arcs in X-Factor. Image
Falcon and Winter Soldier would have been better if

a) Flag Smashers were called ULTIMATUM (Underground Liberated Totally Integrated Mobile Army To Unite Mankind)
b) they looked this snazzy Image
Morph’s death and “resurrection” are among the most tragic in the entire history of the X-Men. Image
Jimmy is another character who I really grew attached to during this big read through. Image
DRAG. HER. Image
I forgot they half-heartedly tried to make “Talon” catch on for Laura. Image
That little girl is a child! I don’t want to see you sniffing around her anymore, do you understand?! Boy have you lost your mind? ‘Cause I’ll help you find it! Image
Whedon’s comical misunderstanding of what happened to Cassandra in New X-Men is a great example of how unintelligent and boring a creator he truly is. Image
if I had a nickel for every time a member of the X-Men was psychically manipulated into living out a domestic fantasy complete with spouse and child in a comic published in September 2006 I’d have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. ImageImage
Whedon sucks and 99% of Astonishing doesn’t hold up, but that 1% goes fucking hard. Image
so glad I got to the @CerebroCast episode on the Ladies Mastermind before I got to Supernovas in my big read through. Image
we have now entered the dumbest era of Wolverine and it’s only going to get dumber once Loeb takes over. Image
I love and miss Santo. Image
RIP Mammomax Image
one of Steve Dillon’s many talents is that he was always great at showcasing the tragedy and unfairness in the deaths of unnamed grunts and henchmen. Image
Vulcan is the most accurate depiction of a teenage boy that just lost his virginity in all of fiction. Image
Kyle & Yost always wrote a great Emma Frost. Image
Cable never stopped thinking about Tyler 😭 Image
for my money, Niko Henrichon is the most underrated artist in comics. Image
this is one of THE dumbest things in nearly sixty years of X-Men comics. Image
Feral and Thornn were depowered on M-Day! There was a whole thing about it! Image
“We were a bit of fun, the four of us. ‘Skrull Beatles!’ We were silly and great!” Image
I’m just gonna ignore this and pretend that Loeb didn’t retcon Wild Child into a Nazi. Image
Cyber was a fucking Pinkerton?! Image
I think writers often forget that Bishop is only from like eighty years in the future. Image
Bobby’s still figuring some stuff out… Image
Kavita has a point. Imagine getting a Zoom invite from a former colleague and then when you join the call you’re on with two actual Nazis, Doctor Doom and whatever the hell Sugar Man is. Image
the difference between Claremont’s era and the “modern day” is that I don’t expect to see Piotr’s injuries in this fight referenced outside of this mini whereas he’d be off the board and recovering for at least half a year if this was the 80s. Image
if you want to trade Hank’s heel turn to a specific moment in continuity and potentially undo it, you could say that his first-hand experience of Dark Beast’s memories fundamentally changed him as a person and as a scientist. Image
I know in practice it’s easier to just ignore the body swap but when you think about it, it’s weird that Betsy being swapped with Kwannon is some kind of multiversal constant. Image
I like to think that Storm and Warpath both very clearly saw Skids very obviously sneaking away with the book but they’re just like “I cannot do another Destiny’s Diaries jaunt rn” Image
I love how Skottie Young drew Hellion’s power signature, it really sets him apart next to other telekinetics.

After the Nimrod arc, Julian got a massive power boost but lost the more subtle and nuanced control he used to have. It makes a fairly common power more unique to him. Image
this got a big chuckle out of me. Image
Captain Britain, monarch of Otherworld, leader of the Captain Britain Corps (which is predominantly composed of alternate versions of himself) when faced with a mysterious blonde haired Brit themed ubermensch: “gee, I wonder who could be behind the mask?” Image
it begins Image
the reveal of who has the baby is really good, or rather, the mounting tension leading up to the reveal leads to a really satisfying payoff.

Also, looking at this page, it strikes me that “Dawn” would have been a better name than “Hope” Image
greatest Scott Summers moment of all time ImageImageImageImage
🚨🚨🚨PEEPERS ALERT🚨🚨🚨 Image
☠️☠️☠️RIPeepers☠️☠️☠️ Image
I never really rated Messiah Complex as highly as other people do, but it’s an event that really stands atop decades of history. Caliban’s death meant nothing to me in 2008, but now I understand his sacrifice and it’s importance to Warpath specifically. Image
it’s a small touch but I love that none of the dialogue Brubaker gives to Bishop is a lie. He’s leaving out “I tried to kill the baby” but he isn’t lying about what happened, so it won’t ping as suspicious to Emma. ImageImage
Messiah Complex doesn’t quite reach the status of “you can read the individual issues as part of their own series without the crossover” but I do appreciate that each issue feels like an issue of its own series.

Indra’s subplot gets half a page in New X-Men, for example. Image
I know some people don’t like Predator X but I’ve always liked it as a concept. It’s like a combination Predator, Xenomorph and Terminator and feels like a natural evolution of the Sentinel concept in a lot of ways. I think you could bring it back as part of ORCHIS, maybe. Image
with all the context of the entire history of the X-Men, Messiah Complex rules. I enjoyed that a lot. Image
Every now and then I hit a sequence that sums up a character’s personality completely in just a few panels.

This is ultimately everything you need to know about Monet St. Croix. Image
the Academy X kids had SO MUCH momentum coming out of Messiah Complex and this book killed that entire generation of students dead. I’m still mad about it. Image
Exodus: if anyone says “Magneto” one more time I swear to god
Amelia, immediately: So, Magneto… Image
goddamn that’s rough for Amelia.

Imagine if your abusive ex had amnesia and then was forced to remember the top fifty worst things they ever did in their life but what they did to you didn’t make the list.

That’s what’s happening here. Image
Monet is just straight up white in this panel Image
Logan being at ground zero for Hiroshima is such a Brian K. Vaughan idea. Image
yeah HANK, it sure would suck if one of the X-Men committed Genocide, HANK. Image
I really like characters sinking deeper into a sunk cost fallacy which is why I think Bishop is so interesting. He scales up his crimes significantly throughout the run, but if he succeeds with his goal, none of them will have ever happened and it will have all been worth it. Image
Daddy Guthrie Image
this is a massively underrated miniseries. Image
with this issue I have read 499 issues of Uncanny X-Men and “Martinique turns San Francisco into a hippy paradise” arc is probably the most boring story in the history of the X-Men.

Not the worst, but the most boring. Image
I know there’s no point in calling out whitewashing in a comic from thirteen years ago but holy shit Image
oh hey it’s my favourite member of the X-Men, Wol Fcub. Image
there are some words that mean something in a context of a franchise; words that you don’t throw around because they mean something and they can be devalued if overused.

You don’t just call a random issue of Young X-Men “Lifedeath” Image
I’m glad that in an era where what you choose to call yourself and what you ask people to call you is so important, Akihiro has been able to reclaim his name. Image
I’ve read Uncanny #500 plenty of times and I just realised the eccentric Japanese director is fucking KINGO. Image
what I like about character reimaginings is that they can lead to profound and exciting changes such as “what if Bucky survived?” or “what if a black kid from Brooklyn became Spider-Man?” or “what if Mister Sinister had big ol’ tiddies?” Image
I wish they did more with X-Men as a start-up before Utopia moved them off the mainland. Image
I would have loved to see Greg Land’s face when he got to this part of the script. I bet he was so happy. Image
“Rahne ate her dad” is one of those quintessentially X-Men sentences. Image
Stepdad Ultron is the best idea Mark Millar ever had. Image
Angel: Revelations establishes that Warren’s first public display of his powers was to confront the priest who had been sexually assaulting his gay best friend.

Odds are you’ve slept on this mini and you should read it. It’s also gorgeous, as you can see. Image
thanks to @CerebroCast this is now the first image I think of when I think of Dazzler. Image
they make a big deal about this for two straight pages but I don’t think Scott saying “fucking” is that noteworthy so I’m going to assume he said a word that begins with C. Image
ah, is this where Hickman got “Tian” from in his Ultimates run? Spencer also introduced “New Tian” during Secret Empire. Image
I love that when Bishop jumps further in the future than Cable to track his movements through history, he seeks out René Merryweather; a reference to (and possible descendent of) Cable’s present day chronicler, Irene Merryweather. Image
ah, there it is Image
I know Stroman did great work in the 90s and I know his work doesn’t suit modern coloring practices but the art in this arc is so bad I nearly dropped X-Factor completely. Image
that didn’t take long, did it, HANK? Image
there’s so much to say about Testament that I’m just not qualified to speak on but I do think it’s fascinating how Pak gives young Max his own Xavier and Magneto style mentors in the form of his father and his uncle. Image
always liked this moment Image
this is legit one of my favourite panels of all time Image
Stryfe is pro-union. Image
I know this moment is controversial and a lot of people hate it, but it was the first comic that ever made me cry. I understand that my perspective on it is different from someone has or has lost kids, but from a storytelling perspective it really moved me. Image
I feel like Dani and Roberto would have immediately stopped the conversation at the word “Cipher” Image
love that Fraction went out of his way to recanonise Marvel Godzilla. Image
hey, Jamie’s here! Image
Marvel: okay Matt, we loved your first solo arc on Uncanny, what have you got for the follow-up? Who’s the big bad?

Matt Fraction: So, I’m sure you all remember X-Man #68 - 70, right? Image
Bishop meeting Stryfe at a bar called “Betty Noir’s” is funny in a way that only works if you’ve dedicated the last two months to reading every X-Men comic. Image
Stryfe should win an award for that codpiece holy shit Image
this moment rules ImageImageImageImage
I really want Logan — the man who killed Tyler Dayspring — to have a chat with Cable about how it’s different when it’s *his* son that’s out of control and needs killing. Image
Marvel: So, Pete, this is a really important scene that we need to be really careful with. Layla was a kid last time Jamie saw her, so we need to make sure this sequence is…

PAD: …super fuckin creepy, way ahead of you. Image
this moment hits so much harder now I’ve read all of X-Force. Image
you’d think once there were only ~200 mutants left there’d be more careful about completely breaking any of the ones that were left. Image
it’s weird how they have Julian dress like the Omega Gang for a hot second. Image
the greatest caption in the history of X-Men comics Image
Gabrielle Haller looks amazing for someone who must be around 80 years old in 2010. Image
it really sucks that Mimic doesn’t get a chance to side with the X-Men like Cloak and Dagger do. He might not have but he deserved the choice. Image
tfw you are the absence of love Image
Ron Garney is one of my favourite Wolverine artists. Image
I’d be more inclined to believe this wasn’t your intent if it wasn’t the second time you’ve done it. Image
I just don’t know how he’s been allowed to get away with this for so long. Image
I find it funny that Selene recruited four mutants with what are essentially death-touch powers of some variety and then a bright pink lady who can teleport. Image
I love these captions, which are Cypher’s interpretations of what everyone really means behind the sentiments they’re verbalising. Image
I love Jason Aaron’s work but in a lot of ways he’s been writing these four panels for fifteen years. Image
Steve Sanders’ Beast rules and I will not hear any arguments to the contrary. Image
Unit is my favourite thing Kieron has added to the Marvel Universe and I would really love to see him show up in Immortal X-Men. Image
oh yeah, absolutely nothing gay going on here Image
I know SWORD is making a larger point about the benefits of immigration and the shortsightedness of nationalism which transcends any specific era but it’s striking how much this feels like it could be from today.

@kierongillen predicted Brexit, essentially. Image
Shatterstar’s hidden power is being able to tell who he’d be able to pull, if he were try to ask. Image
Magneto should have a small but defined list of words he can’t use around people, especially when Scott is trying to sell people on Utopia. Image
this is a really fun concept that does not get enough space to be fully explored. The two mutants on Utopia without a physical body trying to get the upper hand on each other with the fate of the island at stake. Image
I never considered until now that Charles’ son and Irene’s granddaughter are romantically linked. I don’t expect it to come up in Inferno, but maybe down the line in Legion of X.

I also didn’t know that Ruth’s brother stuff was teased here first. Image
major props to Chris Yost for making me care about Madison Jeffries and Diamond Lil over the course of a couple of pages.

This is A+ soap opera shit. Peak X-Men. Image
Is this one any good, @stevewmorris? Image
first use of the word “palaver” in an X-Men comic 10/10 Image
I always loved this spread. Image
I have an endearing love of the Ladies Mastermind since @CerebroCast referred to them as the Cock Destroyers of the X-Men. Image
the giant hand definitely takes away a lot of the pathos of Kurt’s death. Image
so many villains grow and change after spending time with the X-Men but I love that Vanisher is a creepy little coward right until the end. Image
Second Coming isn’t one of the best crossovers but the way the X-line builds to it over the course of two years is impressive. It feels very natural and the way Bastion is pulling everyone’s strings in the lead-up actually reminds me of the year or so before The Muir Island Saga. Image
I want to see a story where Julian gets resurrected and comes back with his hands, then has a conversation with Xi’an about it. I understand why she chose to return to life with her prosthetic but I feel like Hellion wouldn’t and it would be interesting to see that on the page. Image
if I had a quarter for every time Scott Summers sent his son into the future to never return, I’d have a dollar. Image
reading X-Men all at once you come across moments where a character should have stayed dead, and this is one of them.

Cable is my favourite member of the X-Men. I’ve even started a collection of Cable toys and action figures. Cable should have died here and stayed dead. Image
this is what we call “foreshadowing” Image
Dracula still hasn’t recovered from this awful redesign. Image
this is one of my favourite things Aaron added to the Marvel Universe.

Deathlok is usually about the struggle between a person and the killing machine they’ve been turned into, but Peacelok is a sadistic killer with an AI that wants to learn what it means to be human. Image
“My best friend is dead. He died doing what he’d always done… taking a giant robot fist through the heart” Image
I’ll always pop for a reference to The Order.

Still mad at Kieron for killing Kate 😡 Image
this is going to be controversial but I don’t like the Children of the Vault that much and in fact I think most mutant villain teams are largely duds with maybe one or two breakout characters if they’re really lucky. Image
Something that only bugs me now that I’ve read everything. “Archangel” is the name Warren took after reclaiming his humanity, the dark personality is simply “Death” Image
“There’s only one thing worse than Apocalypse” ImageImageImageImage
Curse of the Mutants isn’t very good but Bobby being blessed so that all his ice is holy water is amazing. Image
it feels fitting that Pepe Larraz’s earliest X-work is a Cypher solo story. Image
there’s no heterosexual explanation for Johnny and Akihiro’s “friendship” Image
Pixie becomes so much more Welsh as soon as Kieron joins as co-writer. Image
I’m pro killing Kid Apocalypse but mostly because I’m more anti-child than I am anti-megalomaniac Image
Marvel published an arc of X-Men titled “To Serve And Protect” at the same time it was publishing a wholly unrelated anthology miniseries titled “X-Men: To Serve and Protect” ImageImage
I’d love to see a full X-Men team made up of of Kate Pryde, Jubilee, Armor, Wolverine (Laura) and Oya. Image
Pixie as Dazzler super-fan at the start of Fraction’s run is fine, but Pixie as Dazzler’s own personal comments section at the end of Fraction’s run is amazing. Image
WHO IS THIS?! Image
I love the self-awareness of Logan heading off another potential teen girl sidekick. It’s funny but it’s also sad, knowing what Kitty and Jubilee are both going through in this era. Image
Moira talking about starting over again is hilarious. Image
I’m sure this won’t be significant about eight years from now… Image
let Gambit kiss boys! Image
I love that when Laurie goes full speed she turns into a Digimon. Image
I’m Kenji ImageImageImageImage
Charles Xavier tells Frenzy that villains can’t be X-Men while preparing to go on a mission with Mystique’s daughter, the guy who assembled the Marauders and MAGNETO. Image
Vange Whedon! Now that’s a deep cut! Image
Primal has so much potential and is just waiting for a writer to continue what’s started here. Image
Quentin wasn’t wrong for this one. Image
the original Kirby design for the Sentinels is unbeatable. Image
Hey Scott, which young mutants survived Phalanx Covenant? Image
I’ve been waiting for these panels for ages.

I always associate it with @AlexJaySpencer. Image
looking forward to Kieron revisiting the time Phastos created super cavemen to watch over humans but he cavemen decided mutants were superior and tried to convince Xavier to do a genocide. Image
overall I think the reason for the schism is a bit contrived, but this moment is written and drawn perfectly. The wild urgency from Logan vs the calm pragmatism from Scott shines through in this scene. Image
it’s weird that this is public knowledge displayed in a museum (and where did they get a photo of DOFP Wolverine?) Image
this plays out so well; one of the best twists of the 2010s, for sure Image
I didn’t realise that Akihiro is a recovering addict but this is a major part of his solo book. The sequences where he’s on drugs, drawn by Riley Rossmo, are as beautiful as they are unsettling. Image
Piotr has been a real standout character for me throughout this entire project and Kitty absolutely reads him for filth here. The surgical precision of her words sum up Colossus whole deal so succinctly and that’s why it cuts so deep. Image
I always loved Velocidad. Image
the greatest typo in the history of the X-Men.

Cyclops was supposed to be wearing a loincloth but @kierongillen wrote “lioncloth” by mistake and an iconic look was born. Image
this should have been a book!

what wasn’t this a book?! Image
I loved this era when there was a bunch of different super schools in the Marvel Universe. Not just the Jean Grey School but Avengers Academy, Future Foundation, Braddock Academy and the schools in Latveria, Wakanda and India. Image
I was so into Kid Omega in 2012 that I got the haircut.

(and then never took a good photo with it) ImageImage
these infographics were (and still are) so cool Image
not to nitpick but Scott was Apocalypse for like a year or so. Image
I have to assume Sinister’s desecration of the Dreaming Celestial will factor into Makkari and Ajak’s larger mission and, alongside with the Avengers Mountain stuff, could be the basis for the Judgment Day crossover. Image
such. good. shit. Image
this is a period of X-Men where Logan very clearly is in a long-term, monogamous relationship with someone who is a supporting character across several titles but OH NO here comes Hell World Jean Grey and he’s forgotten all about Melita. Image
another example of Sinister making enemies of unfathomably powerful alien races in the Gillen run that just might come back to bite him (and everyone) in the Krakoa era. Image
this is a fantastic one-and-done story that I think people will get a lot out of revisiting with the perspective of Powers of X.

Uncanny X-Men (2012) #4. Go back and read it. Even if it doesn’t mean anything to the larger story happening now, it’s just real good. Image
out of all of the faces and poses that Greg Land had to trace from, why this one for this panel? I hate that he was allowed to get away with this for so long; at least now he’s sequestered off on symbiote nostalgia minis. Image
this panel is infamous but I didn’t realise it originated in the x-book ostensibly oriented at young(er) readers. Image
🎶we don’t talk about Ruth-oh🎶 Image
The Skinless Man is a great lesson in character design. You start with the obvious (man without skin) and then you add a character specific detail (dresses like a barrister) that makes him unforgettable. Image
I like that they Mike McKone for what is ostensibly the back door pilot for a new Exiles book, even if it did end not being called that. Image
