Been going back and forth with our printers as we've been experiencing delays...
A bunch of books we sent off over the summer should be coming in within the next month or so.
However, books we sent in recently may not be getting to us until... next summer.
contd...
We’re possibly gonna go into a lot more detail about our issues and the sutuation during the DENPA panel at AnimeNYC, but we wanted to share a few thoughts on the subject as it’s likely going to impact not only our schedule but potentially a lot of mango’s.
2/??
1) We don’t want to dismiss that DENPA did push back their schedule in 2020. That ended up biting us in the behind long-term. Some of that was personal & personnel. Some of if was B2B w/ Japan. But that started to improve this spring once we started going back to the office. 3/??
2) We also should remind our readers… We’re literally a staff of three. So any disruptions (illness, time off, or what have you) for any of us, basically means things shut down to an extent.
4/??
But yeah things picked up earlier this year. We started sending out a number of new books and reprints to print.
Printing turnarounds before covid were 3-4 weeks for most of our books.
Last year and for the first half of ‘21, it was 6-8 weeks. Not great but reasonable.
5/??
Then the summer came around. What’s usually a slow period for publishing, seemed to be the complete opposite this year. 8 week turnarounds were suddenly quick, as 12 weeks were appearing to be the norm.
But then I started getting schedules for the fall and…
6/??
Well were now looking at 20-24 week schedules. Something I’ve been told is pretty unprecedented domestically.
DENPA generally prints with three printers. We’re gonna shop around to see if we can find anywhere that can turn things around sooner. Not sure if that’s possible tho.
