So, DUNE. Along with Lord of the Rings, it has been among my fav books since childhood, & like the LOTR films, tho it made changes to the source material I was ??? about, it also similarly captured the gist & feel & power & imagination of the book, & what else can you really ask?
I like that DUNE took its time, focused on both world-building & story-building instead of rushing thru the whole book in one film, brought space & the future to life w/ care in ways akin to Blade Runner, 2001, Interstellar, etc., & did its best to capture the themes of the book.
Definitely see it in IMAX. Powerful.
Still tho, the definitive ranking remains the Sandworms in Tremors > Sandworms in Beetlejuice > Sandworms in Dune
NEW: Garland's son-in-law is co-founder of Panorama, which supports 13 million students in 21,000 schools. The company promotes "social-emotional learning" but admits that's just a "vehicle" to promote "equity" & "dismantle" things like "systemic racism."
Becky Barstein, who gave the Panorama presentation (titled "SEL as Social Justice: Dismantling White Supremacy Within Systems & Self"), claimed that βthe grooves of racism in my [her] brain sometimes are so deepβ due to unconscious bias & systemic racism.
Panorama CEO Aaron Feuer said George Floyd death was "another consequence of this long history of systemic racism" & "education represents one of the most important levers for change" & his org is βin a unique position to make change to our institutions.β

I donβt have an insane number of natural gifts, but one of them definitely is showing up at an airport as late as humanly possible and still easily making my flight.
I fired this tweet off when I was still in the security check line just to tempt fate β easily sped through it.
If I show up at Six Flags, every rollercoaster ride line is somehow like 3 hours long for me. But if I show up at a busy metro airport half an hour before wheels up, the TSA line parts like the Red Sea.
