Let’s get this straight: the UK imposed asset freezes and a UK travel ban earlier this year on 5 individuals for corruption and serious human rights abuses.
Investors say there are steps Zimbabwe could take to improve its business climate & grow FDI - enacting currency reforms, guaranteeing property rights & investors' ability to obtain legal redress via the courts.
Good to have a chance to make this clear again. The UK has imposed sanctions on 5 Zimbabweans for well-documented serious human rights abuses & corruption. We work to encourage exports from Zimbabwe to the UK: UK-Zim trade was 244m last financial year! #itsnotsanctions
The facts - the UK is channelling 139m USD in aid to Zimbabwe between 2021-22 to where it’s most needed: tackling climate change, girls education & supporting recovery from COVID-19
We’re committed to reducing poverty in Zimbabwe and standing by its people #itsnotsanctions
