Today, at #IAC2021, I had the honor to present @arianespace’s views on the regulations and best practices that must be implemented in order to cope with the challenges the mega-constellation market.
We are entering a new era, with more and more satellites above us… By 2030, we could see 27,000 satellites orbiting above our heads. #IAC2021
As spacefans, our job and main responsibility is to make sure that we develop a sustainable use of Space. Collectively, we have to make sure that orbits remain accessible and are cleaned up following operations so satellites can operate in safe conditions… #IAC2021
To address this growing market, launchers must be suited to the specific needs of large constellations… No question, they require big launchers. And #Ariane6 will fill that role. #IAC2021
Bigger fairing, launch campaign cut to 9 days compared to 30 with #Ariane5; reignitable upper stage and at least as powerful as Ariane 5 (which, by the way, broke the world record for mass to GTO orbit 3 days ago with 10,264 metric tons)… #IAC2021
All of this is going to make Ariane 6 a game changer in the constellation business! #IAC2021
Although we forecast the constellation market to be 4 times the value of the GEO market, GEO is definitely not dead. We see many projects in developement. Exciting! #IAC2021
The topic of sustainability needs to be tackled by governments; it’s also a good topic for @G7 and regional institutions like the @EU_Commission. #IAC2021
By all means, we must avoid doing to Space what sometimes we did to our planet; and we need to fight against space junk. We need a responsible and sustainable space. #IAC2021
