Earlier this year, a senior lobbyist for @ExxonMobile was caught admitting to discrediting science, joining “shadow groups” and claiming to support solutions they knew would never pass. Par for the course for big oil.
.@Shell also has known about the crisis for decades (surprise, surprise). Instead of acting on it, they spend millions every year denying and delaying crucial climate policies while pretending to support action.
.@APIenergy commissioned a group of scientists who informed them of the “globally catastrophic effects” of climate change *in the 1970s*. API then helped launch a decades-long, industry-wide effort to spread lies and fight climate policies.
When asked about climate action, @Chevron’s CEO said “we’d rather dividend [stocks] back to shareholders and let them plant trees.”

Fossil fuel companies do not want to have to testify to Congress. Keith McCoy said as much in his leaked video earlier this year.
This will be worth watching.

TLDR? Exxon knew. Shell knew. API knew. Chevron knew. They have consistently worked to prevent climate action so they can continue to pollute and profit while the rest of us pay the price.
They have zero credibility on climate. Period.
