8 Simple Ideas to Unlock The Course Inside You

(VISUAL🧵)
Everyone has an online course in them.

Decode what you're doing.

Learn how to teach it to others.
You don't have to be an expert.

You can "learn in public".

If you can help your friend do something, you've got credibility to them.

You don't have to be an expert in their eyes.

You helped them.

That's enough.

Start teaching way earlier than you think you're ready.
The BEST way to start an online course is to talk to people about it.

Engage in Generous Dialogue.

Ask questions to invite honesty, dignity, and revelation.

Listen with genuine curiosity and ready to be surprised.

Your course will reveal itself to you.
Course-Student Fit is a combination of:

• a clear Vehicle for Transformation (screwdriver)
• a Problem Worth Solving (nails)

What most creators don't realize is that the first one is fixed.

The second is where you should be experimenting.

Find your nail.
When you're ready to launch a Transformational Online Course, make sure it has 3 things for your students:

1. Personal reflection
2. Peer-to-peer learning opportunities
3. A path for them to continue learning long after the course is complete
We learn best from each other.

You set the Destination for your students.

But they're all at different stages of the Journey.

Help them find and connect with others at the same point as they are.
Your journey from beginner to emerging expert is long.

It more or less follows this windy path.

Your mileage may vary.

But be ready to jump on board when your flight takes off.
Finally, when you're in demand, you need to know how to set your price.

The art of teaching meets the business of online.

The Pyramid is a way to think about your value and what you can charge.
That's it my friends!

It's really that easy and that hard.

Please give the 1st tweet a RT to share this with others.

The world needs more teachers.

Today is my 40th birthday.

To celebrate, I'm sharing 40 lessons I wrote for myself in case they're useful to you too:
1/ When it comes to how to live, what is true for you is very rarely true for others. Be careful of your own projections.
2/ That said, cherish those who see things the same as you regarding how to live a good life.

--WHY IT WORKS--

There are two primary reasons learning by teaching works so well:
1) Cohesive Units

To explain anything effectively, you can’t rely on only knowing how things work by themselves.

You have to see the bigger picture.

How everything works together as a cohesive unit.

By seeing how all the pieces fit together, you develop deep knowledge.

--WHY IT WORKS--

The service reps who fixed Xerox machines routinely dealt with complexity that was impossible to capture in an SOP.

Each machine was slightly different from the next.

These Xerox reps began exchanging repair tips + tricks in informal meetings over breakfast.
While eating, the reps talked shop. They:

• posed questions
• raised problems
• offered solutions
• constructed answers
• laughed at mistakes
• discussed changes in their work, the machines, and customer relations.

How To Accelerate Team Learning #2 - Reflecting
Most high-performing professionals have never experienced failure.

They have excelled since high school.

Instead of embracing failure, they get defensive and blame others.
The problem is not that it's wrong (it may even be accurate), but that it's not useful.

It brings learning to a grinding halt.

If learning is to persist, managers and employees must look inward.

WHY IT WORKS:

Would you get in a car with someone who's only watched a video about driving?

Of course not, that's insane.
There are too many variables to learn by passively consuming a how-to video.

It’s the process of handling the variables that actually constitutes the skill of driving.
