A quick thread for Virginia conservatives (and progressives) as we approach Election Day, and why you should vote for @TerryMcAuliffe for Governor.

Thread

/1
If you're one of the now 500,000+ Virginians who have life saving healthcare access due to expanded Medicaid, Democrats did that.

If you're one of 50,000 Virginians suffering from drug/alcohol addiction but now have affordable treatment due to Medicaid, Democrats did that.

/2
If you're one of 781,000 Virginians who need insulin to live, and are grateful that insulin is capped at $50 a month instead of $700 a month, Democrats did that.

The GOP could have done this at any time they were in power, but they didn't. Democrats did.

/3
If you're grateful that Virginia raised the minimum wage, and want it to get to at least $15/hour, Democrats did that.

If you're grateful teacher pay increased, and want it to continue to increase above the national standard, Democrats did that.

/4
If you're enjoying early voting, mail in ballot voting, and voting on the weekends—Democrats did that. The Virginia Voting Rights Act keeps elections secure, voting accessible, and lets more people participate in our democracy. That's a good thing. And Democrats did that.

/5
Decriminalizing cannabis, trusting women on reproductive health, decreasing excessive standardized testing for our children, making Virginia the #1 State to do business for several years in a row & growing our economy—all happened under Democrats in office

Democrats did that

/6
If you or a loved one was formerly incarcerated for a drug offense, VA Dems changed the law to ensure you now have access to SNAP and TANF and financial aid, whereas under GOP, Virginians were blocked.

Democrats restored dignity b/c its a human right. Democrats did that.

/7
Under @TerryMcAuliffe, @HalaAyala, & @MarkHerringVA, Democrats will continue to fight for working families, ensure a strong economy with good paying Union jobs, and protect our children, our climate, and our communities.

That's the proven record. That's what Democrats do.

/8
So if you see this thread, please RT & share with your family & loved ones in Virginia.

We need to ensure every registered voter exercises their right to vote. We have the chance to take Virginia to the next level for working families. That's what Democrats do. Let's go!

Unpopular opinion but if even after 20 years you think the week after 9/11 was a week of unity, you haven't been paying attention to the BIPOC & Muslims in your life who feared for our safety & suffered a massive spike in hate crimes for something we had nothing to do with.
The myth of "unity" means ignoring The Patriot Act, NYPD warrantless spying on Muslims, dozens of states who tried to pass "anti-Shariah" bills, Gitmo, torture, drone strikes, & the Muslim Ban—all which denied the justice our Constitution promises.

These are all connected.

/2
The "unity" was if you unquestionably supported what George W called "a crusade." Otherwise, you were unpatriotic. "You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists," W famously said—whitewashing objections to killing of hundreds of thousands of Afghan & Iraqi civilians.

Sharia Law is trending b/c people think the Texas abortion ban is what Sharia teaches. No, Texas GOP extremism is 100% home grown extremism. Don't blame Sharia.

Let me disabuse y'all of this offensive & harmful ignorance, w/knowledge on what Sharia actually is.

Thread

/1
Sharia is the law of the Qur’an and literally means “A path to life giving water.”

In fact, the word Yarrah (i.e. the root of the Hebrew word Torah) means precisely the same thing. Therefore, Shariah is actually ingrained in Abrahamic tradition.

There's 5 parts to know...

/2
adab (behavior, morals & manners)
ibadah (ritual worship)
i’tiqadat (beliefs)
mu’amalat (transactions & contracts)
‘uqubat (punishments)

Shariah forbids that it be imposed on any unwilling person. Meaning, Sharia mandates separation of religion & state.

You read that right

This is such a dangerous misrepresentation of history. It creates anti-Muslim hate & antisemitic hate—not to mention the complete erasure of Palestinian Christians.

So much to unpack but let me address this lie of "thousands of years of Arabs raping/murdering Jews."

622: Muhammad(sa) signs Constitution of Medina w/Jews of Medina. A secular constitution it declares:
•Article 17: No Jew shall be wronged for being a Jew
•Article 18: The enemies of the Jews who follow [Muslims] will NOT be helped

Prophet Muhammad(sa) condemned antisemitism
/2
623: Qur'an Ch 22:40-41 is revealed, permitting Muslims to fight in self defense to protect Universal Religious Freedom, specifically commanding Muslims to protect "Synagogues, Temples, Churches, & Mosques" from attack.

Prophet Muhammad(sa) actively defended Jews from attack

3 years ago an extremist threatened to murder me for my faith as a Muslim. The FBI subpoenaed me to testify against him in Federal Court & the jury convicted him

But now—he’s appealing. So I've lawyered up w/ @MuslimAdvocates to sue him.

A thread story of hope over hate.

/1
Let me back up. My family faces immense persecution in Pakistan b/c of our faith as Ahmadi Muslims.

In 1997 police nearly tortured one of my cousins to death for his faith. In 1995 another cousin was lynched, murdered w/a noose around his neck & dragged through the streets.

/2
So, a death threat from an extremist to literally lynch me for my faith as a Muslim was horrifying deja vu

I reported the threat to Twitter who agreed it violated their TOS. They suspended him. Then a day later his account was unsuspended—after which he sent me MORE threats
