Yesterday, the Government published their Autumn Budget & Spending Review. Today we'd like to share our response ⬇
While we welcome the much-needed additional investment to tackle the backlog caused by the pandemic, young people with cancer need the Government to provide ringfenced funding to recruit, train, & retain the workforce needed to provide expert care.
Teenagers and young adults with cancer have different psychological, social and physical needs when compared with children and older adults and should receive specialist, age-appropriate care and support from a workforce trained to meet their needs.
One of the biggest issues for young people with cancer, even before the pandemic, has been accessing the psychological support they need and deserve - the pandemic has amplified this, increasing isolation and anxiety and placing greater demand on our support services.
We urge the Government to commit to a long-term strategy and sustainable investment in the workforce needed for teenage and young adult cancer services. Without this young people with cancer – and their families - will suffer.
It’s #NotOK that young people don’t have access to specialist mental health support when they need it. You can help us change this by pledging your support for our campaign now 👇teenagecancertrust.org/notok
