In 2016 Terry McAuliffe vetoed a transparency bill that would have required public schools to "notify the parent of any student whose teacher reasonably expects to provide instructional material that includes sexually explicit content"
Schools would have also been required to allow parents to review the material and to provide alternatives to students if requested by their parents.
The bill passed the Senate: 22-17
It then passed the House: 77-21
Terry McAuliffe then vetoed the bill.
The House failed to override the veto by one vote: 66-34
