In 2020, SC issued comprehensive guidelines to govern the #internetshutdown orders. It was after @AnuradhaBhasin_ approached SC related to shutdown in J&K.
🧵 on how Indian states hv been violating these guidelines with impunity
"Proportionality & necessity"
"NO Indefinite shutdowns"
"Review these shutdown orders"
"Shutdown orders to be uploaded on the govt website"
4 conditions set by #SupremeCourt for internet shutdown.
But states are freely violating these orders with little check by the courts.
Our analysis from six states reveals how govts cite a variety of reasons: from unrest to exams, to switch off the Internet, freely ignoring or circumventing the Supreme Court’s orders and despite evidence that such shutdowns do not serve the purposes they claim.
It's quite important to understand how even without hate speeches & vandalism, these hindutva goons incite violence or spread hate against the Muslims.
A 🧵 on how these rallies purposely go through Muslim areas & with the help of music provoke and establish their supremacy+
MUSIC is the key to attract & spread venom in the society.
Kind of songs which have a lot to do with "aggressive nationalism", "saving hindus", "rise of Islam that is dangerous to Hindus", "mandir wahi banega" & more have now become a tool to assault Muslims & democracy
In the year of 2022 alone, we saw communal violence broke out in several states across India & in almost all the cases, the pattern was same: these songs being played in but that didn't stop there. The same songs were heard in some of the rallies of our government authorities.
TW 🚨
It's been 2 days since #RamMandirPranPrathistha and different parts of the nation have already seen vandalism, hate songs/rallies & violence against Muslims.
Here's a thread of what has already unfolded in the name of the celebration of the return of Ram in Ayodhya. 🧵
1. In Telangana's Narayanpet district the rally of people stood in front of Madina Masjid with loud music. They allegedly threw sandals into the mosque and also burnt crackers.
Another shop belonging to Muslim fruit vendor was also set on fire in Sanga Reddy district.
2. Shops in Mumbai's #MiraRoad were vandalised & looted.
A bunch of saffron wearing men forced a youth on his bike to chant "Jai Shree Ram".
In Yashodhara Nagar, Nagpur, Hindu extremists allegedly entered a Muslim family's home, carrying out vandalism and physical assault.
How the Hindutva Pop singers are fuelling a politics of Hate
Stay with me to understand how majorly these singers are backed by the ones in power.
How their songs gets maximum reach.
How popularity of BJP grew with these songs.
During Ram Navmi processions in April, communal violence broke out in several states. In most of the cases, the pattern was same to use provocative songs and Hindu mobs entered Muslim areas, wielding swords and sticks, shouting communal slogans and playing loud music.
Conflagrations around rallies have been a frequent feature: "Mandir wahi banega" cries in the infamous Ram Rath Yatra. But there is diff about the violence this time: it's the kind of songs played.
Such songs are a part of culture, Hindutva ecosystem has emerged in Modi era.
Few days back some 21 year old told me over a discussion on CONSENT,"Mai ladka hoon mujhe consent smjh nhi aata."Later got away saying it was a mere joke but this very thought shows the deeper mindset of men who can't digest that women have any say over her body. ++ #MaritalRape
Discussion on #MaritalRape has actually created a ruckus over social media and in minds of men because "how can a woman have consent over her body? It was her body but not after marriage." A man telling me "Mai ladka hoon mujhe consent smjh nahi aata" is a potential RAPIST.
++
Profiles like these entertain & give free pass to men to be a potential rapist & take forward the rape culture. Same old argument of "consent forms" guarantees how you feel superior of women, don't understand consent, pushes your
needs over hers and how you can be a RAPIST.
Thread: 🚨🚨I know how the healthcare of the country and the plights of students who are forced to sit for offline exams don't make it to the headlines of the newspaper/ newsrooms but I say it with thoughts, currently the students of the county need your attention.
++
The MBBS students & other course students made to sit for offline exams is bizarre. When the election rallies are boycotted, school & colleges have been shut then why Universities are stubborn to take up offline exams where more than 150+ students will be sitting in one room?
Students from UP, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and other states have reiterated the fact that even after so many students being asymptomatic and positive at the same time, the University is turning a blind eye.
Students in the hostels are made to share rooms..
