@MuchMoreBait Cliff's notes version: the ports at Long Beach and LA are incredibly inefficient. Most African ports are rated higher than these two. So the US has a ton of systemic issues, and the people who have paid those costs are the ones lowest down: dray truckers, warehouse workers, etc.
@MuchMoreBait You can work at the port of long beach for 14 hour as a trucker whose job it is to move cans from the port to a railhead or whatever. 14 hours, and your takeaway income might be as low as 10 bucks, after your costs are subtracted.

@MuchMoreBait Well, these people just realized with covid (and other reasons that have to do with congestion) that they don't have to be slaves. Flipping burgers is like 100x as profitable as working a slave job at a port. So the companies who handle this are running out of slaves.
@MuchMoreBait Like the workers are NEVER FUCKING COMING BACK. They ran away, they escaped the plantation! You have to either make this work non-slave work, or you have to make it actual chattel slavery work, with guard dogs and whips and shit to keep people working.
@MuchMoreBait The various companies that handle logistics have zero incentive or ability to fix this though. They aren't going to pay port truckers a living wage. Unless the government steps in, this will not get fixed. And until it gets fixed, the entire logistics chain is broken.
