It should not be lost on us, as a community, we often talk about the validity of self-diagnosis, the barriers black, indigenous and people of color face in terms of being diagnosed, let alone in seeking services.

Yet, a large amount of white disabled people, who, will in one
Breath speak of these things will demand proof from these very same communities of the validity of their disabilities.

A lot of us recognize the systems of ableism that are utilized to reinforce white supremacy and still we are met with demands that we possess proof that
These exact systems recognize our disabilities as valid.

This is why I recognize self diagnosis and, to be quite honest, I could care less how disabled people of color obtain the resources necessary for their survival.

I don’t trust any part of this system to save us, so

If you are someone talking about the CVS lobbying to eradicate disability protections, you need to do the following:

-Use the word “preexisting conditions” not “disability” all preexisting conditions are disabilities but CVS is using the fact that the word “disability”
Is so stigmatized that they won’t care.

-emphasize that the same policy mechanism that allows insurers to not cover anti-vax COVID patients is the same that gives protections to people with preexisting conditions.

-emphasize the number of newly disabled from COVID and
Mention the timing and era in which this lobbying effort is taking place.

-hammer in the snowballing effect that this will have on the Affordable care act.

I need to vent:

I am trying to get an appliance delivered to my apartment. My building requires a certificate of insurance from the company, which is fair enough, but every time I get it, my building wants to be added to the document as an additional insured. Them
Being multinational companies are like: nah? We’re not changing our policies.

When this happened the first time, I asked my building for a list of approved vendors, they refused.

The companies you buy appliances from do not disclose their insurance documentation until you
Make a purchase, so I have to continuously spend thousands of dollars in order to find a company that will work with my building and their delivery policies. All the while, my fucking building refused to produce a list of approved vendors.

We need our clothes cleaned

Oh it’s actually so much more intense than you think. In the early 2000s there was a concerted effort to convert non Christians to Christianity through music. It wasn’t just hip hop it was punk pop/rock too.

Avril Lavigne is a Conservative Christian and initially built her
Career to make Christian music.

Evanescence, before making it clear that they were not a Christian band, had a distribution deal with Provident, a faith based music distributor.

Switctfoot too said they were “not of the Christian genre, but were often promoted in Christian
Circles as one of those bands that kids didn’t know were leading them to faith.

This isn’t exactly new.

There is an alternative/hippie to conservative Christian pipeline. In the 60s, Christians would preach to communes and that’s kind of how the Christian rock genre started.

When I was in middle school I had to be in both gifted and special Ed for gym. They didn’t have anywhere for me to go during that period so they stuck me in the reading teacher’s room.

The teacher didn’t know me other than that she was to watch me for 45 minutes every other day
So she and my aide (who was weird and kept crying about my disability—literally) used to gossip with each other about whatever while I was left to my own devices. I was very bored and they were very irritating, so I, also a fatty, decided to mess with them.

There always seemed
To be leftover cupcakes from her other classes and I wanted them. There also happened to always be a reading prompt or problem on the bored for her other classes.

So, every time I saw that there were both at the same time, I would tell them “if I can repeat verbatim what

Here’s the thing that tires is, we’ve already told you. We’ve told your mommas, your grandmas, your aunties and your cousins generation after generation we have told you.

Tomes are dedicated to educating you. Classes have been conducted to coddle you. Directions laid out
Step by step and the question still seems to be “what do we do?” Over and over again as though our pleas were silent screams and our work blown away like dust.

It is far too late to ask “what do we do?”

Black, indigenous and women and queer people of color are done.
The tomes sit dusty on the shelf. You showed up late to class. The directions are now irrelevant.

We’re out.

The question is no longer “what do we do?”

We weren’t a we when you all were so easily persuaded by your racism. We weren’t a we when you refused to “talk politics”
