How To Analyze Your Local Competition In Under 5 Min
I'm going to break down the EXACT 5 things I look at with our franchisees to analyze their Territory and decide how competitive it is.
Guaranteed to save you a ton of $$ and time by knowing which city to go after.
🧵 below
1) GOOGLE REVIEWS: first thing I do is look at how many Google reviews on the mappack the local competition has. Ex: type in "maid service [your city]". Do the top competitors have 500+ reviews each, or just 100+ each? How many competitors have a high volume of reviews?
The companies who have highest reviews + highest rankings will get the lions share of clicks. Simple as that. I want to know how much effort it'll take to get into those top 3 spots
If 10 companies have 500+ reviews in my direct niche, I know it may take a long time to outrank
2) SEO RANKING: which competitors are on the top spots for the map pack and organic rankings? Are the sites SEO optimized? For many smaller markets, really bad websites who barely do SEO rank high....I like this bc it means its ripe for takeover pretty easily.
3) WEBSITE REVIEW: do the top ranked competitors on organic SEO for my keywords have good websites, or shitty websites? Do they have a clear call to action, online booking, etc?
Sometimes very un-optimized websites are the top spots. This tells me its ripe for takeover.
4) PAID ADS: Google LSA (look it up) is still relatively new and underutilized. If this exists in that market and is not being use properly by competitors, this is a HUGE opportunity. Volume of reviews + bid amount are the biggest drivers of LSA rankings.
I MAY look at Google Adwords, but too many large companies (Angi, HomeAdvisor, etc) pay a lot for these so its rarely the most profitable paid ads to run for local services....I don't put too much stock in this anymore.
Yelp and other quoting engines are very city-specific.
5) SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES: some niches generate most biz from FB pages, so don't discount that when doing analysis. Are your competitors living on FB and is there where demand is? Check out the most active FB pages for your niche and see if its matches with the top ranked websites.
That's it for now folks. Going to try posting more content for the SMB twitter fam consistently ✌️
