@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion You have no idea just how we do, Billy. I'll never believe a fucking word you say about racism when Small Axe - Education has been there for as long as it has to show you and the fucking nation the meaning and difference between separatism and segregation.
@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion Separatism is a defense mechanism by populations which are discriminated against AND exploited. That is black people and women. We do it so as to fight racism and misogyny away from interruption AND sabotage.
@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion We do it because in order to be exploited the dominant population (that is white ruling classes and males) cannot get at us as we go about minimising damage to us, providing relief and recovery and organise against both racism and misogyny.
@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion We do it because for all the weasel words you lot use, liberation is a far away dream to us TODAY regardless of well intentioned patronising and harmful shit of the sort you have uttered there and which posits us as oppressors when we did not create the systems which oppress us.
@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion We are not so very fortunate. So... in Small Axe -Education you see black people starting schools for black children because institutional fucking racism left children like moi behind which is why though I am right now schooling you I never had the "white privilege" of one.
@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion I stuck inverted commas in that last tweet because I am making a point in *this* conversation (moi and afropessimism don't get along). Women on the other hand have our spaces too for all sort of shit from moving freely in a society that doesn't care about #MVAWAG to providing...
@billybragg@JeanHatchet@Ecuadorian_Mum@Passie_Kracht@CroneInAMillion So... fuck off with that analogy because all you are doing invoking "segregation" to women fighting for our rights, recognition and against violence against us is denying structural misogyny and racism and we are well and truly sick of this shit from white men like you.... sir!
@_Witch_of_Aeaea @cache_pas The responses to that thread are politically myopic at best and, by behaving in such ways, GCs do show contempt for women which is why some of us no longer call ourselves GC. Frankly, it's embarrassing now.
@DrNWLuna @rady_aphrodite @_Witch_of_Aeaea @cache_pas Sometimes, the only way women are able to fight against the conditions under which they face difficulties is to bring the issue to international attention. So, it is particularly crass for women in other countries to drown out the voices of campaigners in ways as crass as the...
@DrNWLuna @rady_aphrodite @_Witch_of_Aeaea @cache_pas ... ones under the BBC tweet.
It is not that you do not have a point. Except it is a point about the BBC or the programme. By defending the actions of these GCs what you are saying here is that if the BBC had organised a talk about this instance of period stigma, you'd have...
“Freedom cannot be achieved unless women have been emancipated from all forms of oppression.”
"As Chief Luthuli said, 'When the women begin to take an active part in the struggle, no power on earth can stop us from achieving freedom in our lifetime."
#MandelaDay
"As a tribute to the legions of women who navigated the path of fighting for justice before us, we ought to imprint in the supreme law of the land, firm principles upholding the rights of women."
@EcoWitch@VeraBaird Of course not. A lot of women won't extend this one woman the courtesy of asking "What could have possibly have led her to this pass?". A lot of women will not relate to a woman who enters denial mode 'cos of the enormity of an unwanted 4th child in the midst of the turmoil of
@EcoWitch@VeraBaird ... a covid thwarted separation from the father of the other children whose possible wrath she may have feared if he found out about the pregnancy. They won't relate to her lack of a friendly ear to just talk things over because secrecy was so paramount to the conditions under...
@EcoWitch@VeraBaird .... which she lived. A lot of women won't relate to how little time a pregnancy really takes when you're stressed and worried beyond measure even when they know the safest abortion is the earliest one but the pregnant woman is worried about more immediate survival stuff to...
Women lie all the time about how we feel to avoid men's wrath. White's voice alone would have had me self-excluding from a refuge. Reliance on socially accepted deception doesn't make for good law for women because we're socialised to repress our feelings and our needs. Short🧵
When women aren't repressing our feelings wrt men for men's benefit we're urged to hush them up for "the common good". 🙄
No thank you. This is sexism and it needs to stop.
Male demands are not necessarily rights and, all too often, male demands impact on women to our detriment.
P.S. I know that TV time is limited but it would be good women's freedoms to associate and organise away from males however they identify weren't forgotten about. Male violence is not the only reason why women need our full rights and legal recognition.
True feminists find the very concept of race as detestable as the concept of a gender identity given how both institute/reinforce hierarchies among humans.
Just because *race* has been made "real" by institutional convention, it really, really doesn't mean it's not as flimsy a myth as the concept of a *gender identity* (itself, untestable, unprovable and undetectable) should be viewed.
When I describe myself as a *black woman" it really doesn't mean I have forgotten that race was the myth created by white supremacists in order to first subjugate us, kidnap us, enslave us and steal our ancestors lands nor does it mean I treat woman as something I feel either.
