This tweet will be longer than usual as I have a few things to say about the rural branch closure taskforce & some other things. If you didn't catch Life Matters on @RadioNational yesterday you can catch a replay here abc.net.au/radionational/… 1/5
Caller after caller spoke about the tragedy of rural branch closures & the effect it has on their lives & community. I wrote to taskforce Co-Chairs @MichaelSukkarMP , @PerinDavey , & @senbmckenzie weeks ago asking why @FSU_Australia were excluded from the taskforce?
& not one of them has had the courtesy of responding to my letter. The 30,000 members of @FSU_Australia no doubt vote across the spectrum, Im sure they are disappointed at this deliberate exclusion.I cannot imagine shadows like @ALeighMP or @StephenJonesMP being so petty if
the situation was reversed. The present membership of the taskforce is an echo chamber of business. I'm not aware of any peak consumer groups being on the taskforce either? Who speaks for the workers, consumers, & IT poor citizens as a result of these closures?
The Bosses? @ausbanking ? Forget about it! Taskforces come & go but one thing will never change & that is @FSU_Australia standing shoulder to shoulder with our members & local communities who suffer through these closures. #ausunions

On the 1st anniversary of the Hayne Royal Commission we can reflect on how the toxic behaviours & work practices of the finance sector were laid bare for all to see. Whatever the shortfalls of the RC the sector has an opportunity to reset especially with its workers.
The workers are the forgotten people of this saga. Rarely mentioned in the media is the mental & physical toll placed on workers as the sector sought to squeeze profits from any & everything. There is now a chance to reform these work practices.
We are bargaining or about to enter bargaining with 2 of the big 4 banks. We’ll get a fix on what, if any, influence Hayne has had on them. I’ll keep you posted.
