📆At the time, in August 2018, Thomas Markle had been giving a series of media interviews about his daughter after he pulled out of attending her wedding, causing distress to the Duke and Duchess and concern in the Royal household
📱According to newly released text messages, written to Jason Knauf, her then-press secretary as she crafted a letter to her estranged father, the Duchess said she wanted to protect her husband from the "pain" the situation had caused Image
🗣️"Even after a week with his dad and endlessly explaining the situation, his family seem to forget the context and revert to 'can't she just go and see him and make this stop?'" the Duchess wrote on Aug 22, 2018
📨"They fundamentally don't understand, so at least by writing H [Harry] will be able to say to his family 'she wrote him a letter and he's still doing it'" she wrote

"By taking this form of action, I protect my husband from this constant berating" Image
📱The texts are shown to be sent from "Tilly", a pseudonym used by Mr Knauf for the Duchess

📨The messages also include emails between the Duchess, Prince Harry and Mr Knauf in which they discuss a briefing meeting with the authors of Finding Freedom.

They show the Duchess's email signature: "Sent from my iPhone. Please excuse any technological mishaps. I'm a Luddite" Image
🔴The Duchess has already won a High Court privacy battle with the Mail on Sunday after a judge found the publication of extracts of her letter to her father was unlawful.

The Mail on Sunday is seeking to overturn that summary decision, arguing that the matter should go to trial
After a three-day hearing this week, the Court of Appeal judges will return their findings within the next few weeks

🧠 Prolonged isolation during lockdown had devastating effects on our brain health.

Social isolation has been robustly proven to hasten dementia and long-term cognitive decline.

Here’s how to reverse pandemic brain ageing 🧵👇

❌ Loneliness ages us as badly as 15 cigarettes a day, or drinking a bottle of gin, according to a study at University of California, Berkley.

A 12-year Harvard study found that the thinking skills of those who said they're “lonely” declined 20% more than those who were not Image
🧬 Only 25% of our ageing, both physical, and mental, is determined by our DNA. The other 75% is lifestyle and our environment.

We have a lot of choice over the latter, enabling us to rebuild our brain resilience and mitigate the effects of lockdown 🔻 Image

📸After Dr Alex George found fame on Love Island in 2018, strangers would stop him in the street. Yet something changed quite starkly last July, when his younger brother Llŷr took his own life.

🗣️“People talk to me a lot less,” says Dr George

He noticed it almost immediately after his bereavement, which came out of the blue.

The day after Llŷr’s death, a friend took him for a walk on the beach in his native Carmarthenshire.

“It was like everyone just turned around and walked away and didn’t know what to say”
Dr George, who was appointed UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador in February, understands this impulse: the squeamishness that means we send cards when someone dies.

But he is a firm believer that talking is vitally important, no matter how difficult the subject

🦠New research has revealed that some forms of the common cold can offer protection against Covid-19.

This is thanks to residual infection-fighting T-cells that prevent the virus from taking hold

The study, by UCL monitored a group of 750 healthcare workers in the first wave of the pandemic.

➡️They found that 58 never tested positive, despite being in a high risk environment
🗣️“We think people (who resisted the infection) already had some T-cells from previous infections,” says Professor Mala Maini.

“And that allowed them to mount a very quick response that could abort the infection”
