Ymir Fritz’s journey through the 5 stages of grief.

Thread on how Mikasa is the perfect antithesis

#aotmangaspoilers ImageImage
1) Denial. This is the creation of paths and the last 2000 years. She maintains the same role, subservience to the king, to maintain her connection to the one she ‘loves’ along with her sense of worth as she lacks individuality. + ImageImage
The last paragraph is exactly what happens as eren connects to her, and the difference to mikasa is that she needs someone outside of herself to take that first step, which continues throughout. This is also why eren is so vital in her journey. + Image
2) Anger. This anger is her emotions that start the rumbling, lashing out at the world as opposed to confronting her feelings about her trauma. The innocents she is trampling are not to blame, but in her state she cannot understand that. + ImageImage
Again it’s important to note that she is not doing this by herself, she needs others as she lacks enough sense of self to have agency. The anger subsides through the act of rumbling itself, which is embodied in the next step. + Image
3) Bargaining. This is the what the choice to rumble represents. ‘It’s your choice’ as she attempts to regain control. The deal is her going with eren to do this, and considering the devil/god commentary surrounding him i think that’s very significant. + ImageImageImage
4) Depression. This is what happens throughout the rumbling. She starts to face the choice she has made. This is shown through her constantly watching things, from ramzi’s death, to the alliance fighting, to armin/zeke’s conversation. + ImageImageImage
You can even see how through eren and her journey she’s started to gain more agency. She’s the one to take away armin because, despite still not being able to take the step herself, she understands that she does need help and acts on that. They are the ‘therapist’. + ImageImageImage
5) Acceptance. This is what mikasa provides through her own acceptance. Mikasa went from valuing eren’s life above all, to killing him for the sake of others but proving that her love had always been real by putting the scarf back on. This allows Ymir + ImageImageImageImage
to understand that her ‘love’ was merely the byproduct of her trauma, as shown through her wish that she hadn’t jumped in front of the spear. She no longer needs that attachment as mikasa gave her the last lesson to fully regain agency, as shown by her adult form and open eyes. + ImageImageImage
The titan curse was born from the trauma of the quintessential ‘child of the forest’ (symbolism overt in this case) and it’s each part of the main trio that together allows her to grow past that. Mikasa is the perfect choice which i’ll show now. + ImageImageImage
Mikasa is ymirs antithesis, and we see this retrospectively throughout the story. The base ‘similarity’ is that of extreme trauma. Mikasa values eren’s life above all due to this, meanwhile ymir forms her subservient attachment to the king. + ImageImage
This is where they diverge. Mikasa constantly defies what eren actually wants meanwhile ymir does everything the king says. Mikasa embodies pride as opposed to ymir who lacks any sense of self or worth. + ImageImageImage
Eren saved her from sex slavers who killed her parents, while the king is the one who killed ymir’s and then abused her. Eren’s ‘you died in that cabin at 9’ is a lie, but for ymir this is the truth (hence in paths she’s the same age + wearing the same clothes as that day). + ImageImageImageImage
Mikasa’s royalty even ties in perfectly. Mikasa is born into royalty but rejects that due to her sense of identity, however ymir is born with nothing and accepts said royalty in order to gain worth and purpose. + ImageImageImage
This is all emphasised in the additional pages. Mikasa remembers eren out of her own volition, against his explicit wishes ie the scarf, but ymir ‘remembers’ the king for 2000 years in order to create the world that he wanted. + ImageImageImageImage
And ofc it’s shown through each journey through the 5 stages. Mikasa does it on her own (true acceptance comes in denying eren), whereas ymir needs the others.

This was ymirs journey through trauma, and a brief explanation on why mikasa is the perfect choice. Thank you! ImageImage

the existence of god in ‘shingeki no kyojin’

eren yeager & attack on titan analysis

art: @/EnvieP1
this is going to be a collection of thoughts that build off of my previous threads so if you find an element that you’re interested in i recommend looking at the corresponding thread to get a full picture. there is no specific structure to this so just read if you enjoy. +
firstly i’ll touch on the idea of ‘god’ within the narrative because it’s something that gets stressed. ‘god’ is the governing force of the world, all knowing and all powerful, but most importantly still a slave to something.+

the humanity of satoru gojō and the importance of suguru getō

a jujutsu kaisen thread Image
the premise of this thread is that geto represents gojo’s humanity (the humanity within ‘god’) and their love becomes a curse which ultimately brings him down. jjk is a ‘story of love and curses’ with geto and gojo embodying this principal fully. + ImageImage
gojo is characterised as the ‘strongest’, strength is inseparable from his very identity but he’s at his best when he is alone. when kenjaku says this the word is caught in a bubble showing the fragility of this concept - gojo’s humanity (geto) means he cannot be truly alone. + ImageImageImage

people ask me why i don’t qrt to argue anymore but genuinely what on earth is the point when value systems are so completely different? i do not like attack on titan for the same reasons as 99% of people on this app and i know now that’s just how it is. +
if you value a solid, well written and explicitly laid out arc you’re gonna have gabi high whereas i find her incredibly dull and predictable. the same goes for people who have reiner super high which is whatever, again it’s just whatever you value. +
i have ymir fritz top 5 due to my values and i’ll write threads/analysis on her, but what’s the point of quoting when 90% of people on here say some utter garbage like ‘she doesn’t even have any writing’. the way ppl victim shame her is disgusting to me and i don’t care for it. +

‘jujutsu kaisen - a story of love and curses’ ImageImage
curses are born from overflowing emotions therefore it makes sense that love and curses are two sides of the same coin, but the most interesting aspect to me is perspective. one’s love is another’s curse or perhaps it’s both - ‘love is the most twisted curse of all.’ + Image
it’s a theme that runs through many characters but i think it’s highlighted the best through the mc, yūji. his original motivation was a message from his grandfather (‘love’), but it ended up serving as a ‘curse’ instead (visually through black panelling). + ImageImageImage

shunsui kyōraku’s perfect bankai - the theatre suicide (katen kyōkotsu: karamatsu shinjū)

a thread on one of the best characters in Bleach Image
To understand the significance behind his bankai, it’s important to first look at his shikai and how they play off of each other. Shunsui’s shikai brings children’s games into reality, showing his dislike of responsibility and easygoing ‘facade’. + ImageImage
His shikai often utilises shadows which is notable because shadows tend to represent a darker/hidden truth. This truth would be his immense trauma and pain as shown through his bankai. Barro sees an illusion because this is not the ‘real’ Shunsui symbolically. + ImageImageImage

Re-Examining the ‘Time Loop Theory’ in the Context of Attack on Titan’s Ending

Thread #AoTMangaSpoilers
(art @/EnvieP1) Image
What is the time loop theory? It’s essentially any theory based on the idea of aot’s world existing in a loop, with eren at the centre of that loop trying to break out. I will be putting forth the idea that it does exist in a loop, but ONLY in the context of eren himself. +
Is this feasible? The theory actually became so popular that isayama and his editors themselves knew of it, and the idea is discussed in an interview after the ending released. Here its said to be open to the interpretation of the reader, so i have free reign to interpret.+ Image
