How to focus on anything for long periods of time? 🧵
I am sure you’ve heard Bruce Lee's popular quote
“The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.”
Realize that your focus is one of your biggest super powers. You can take control of it with some minor tweaks.
Let’s see how to develop better focus. 👇
⚡️Out of sight, out of mind
You know what?
This works pretty well.
Whenever I think I need my full focus, I keep my phone at places I can’t easily see.
Works wonders.
I am 100% sure, with little effort, all of us can do this.
“One look at an email can rob you of 15 minutes of focus. One call on your cell phone, one tweet, one instant message can destroy your schedule, forcing you to move meetings, or blow off really important things, like love, and friendship.”
Start with maybe 20-10 (level: beginner) 20 min dedicated work with 10 min break. Super EASY!
⚡️Rewards work for your mind
Celebrate small wins.
Pat on your back..
Give yourself a treat of a PS5 gaming session or your favorite drink.. anything!
This reinforces your brain to keep doing the "hard" work. Carrot and stick, unfortunately, works on humans too!
⚡️Take control of your breath
5 minutes.
Just breathe deeply with full awareness of it for 5 minutes every day.
Do it, you’ll thank me later.
Deep breathing brings deep thinking and shallow breathing brings shallow thinking. ~Elsie Lincoln Benedict
⚡️Seek a mentor
When you seek a mentor, follow a schedule with the mentor to work on something - you do not have room to go astray.
Remember you have to like what you’re doing for you to seek a mentor. That's the only catch.
⚡️Do this daily
Take a blank notebook
Go to top of the page and make a dot on the left hand side. Now make one dot parallel to that on the right hand side
Join these dots by creating a line as straight as possible without using a scale
Do it everyday for infinite progress
⚡️Where your mind goes the energy follows
If you catch your mind wandering remember that “where your mind goes the energy follows”.
Once you know this, you know that directing your energy towards more important task is in your best interest.
Leverage your energy!
“When walking, walk. When eating, eat.”
Zen proverb
Bonus: Flame meditation 🔥
For the serious ones, this is a recommendation
Light a candle, dim the lights (or put them off) and concentrate on the flame.
Notice how the flame moves. "Listen" to the fire. Engross yourself into it - as long as you can.
Start with 5 minutes.
“Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.” @TonyRobbins
