Another thread #COP26 #EdinUniCOP26 - after a lot more huddling ( mostly of men I noticed) the COP President was finally able to start the plenary 1/n
Loss and damage has clearly been a very divisive issue and is intimately linked to the overall lack of fairness and justice that underpins the climate crisis 2/n
A reminder of what it means for young people 3/n
Turns out you shouldn’t believe every authoritative looking sign you read, especially on matters of when the final(?) COP26 plenary will start! 4/n
@AlokSharma_RDG has said the texts are ‘clean’ I.e. no brackets and ready to be agreed- asks to adjourn but people want to speak 5/n
Let’s hope @KarolineCQKan ‘s picture isn’t an omen! 6/n

View from the platform- everyone tells me @camillaborn has played a huge role behind the scenes… 8/n
The G77 countries led by Guinea seem to have accepted a compromise 9/n
The Chinese delegate speaks- in Chinese not unreasonably- but a scramble for translation headsets. He looks up surprised at the commotion but realises and smiles 10/n
India are unhappy, strikingly so… ‘ I am afraid consensus remains elusive’ 11/n
Many speaking to express disappointment but willing to accept- including the small island states and Africa- is a deal about to happen? 12/n
The doubling of adaptation finance is something but a reminder what we funded for Covid vs the climate finance ask 13/n
Again, to remind on why climate change is an issue of justice- look at this cumulative emissions per head….from @ProfMarkMaslin 14/n
The plenary is still going on so I’ll wrap up here and post later once things are (hopefully) finalised 15/n

Well, the texts and overall package were finally agreed, not without last minute drama on the floor of the plenary over wording on phasing out/down coal 2/n

Looks like an agreement is imminent! #COP26 #EdinUniCOP26 1/n
@AlokSharma_RDG has adjourned the plenary and says documents will be uploaded shortly 2/n
Worth reflecting what happens next? U.K. will seek to implement the agreements and nudge things along and working with Egypt from COP27 in 2022 3/n

Well looks like my thread at 1pm wishing the plenary well was premature! I’ve had time to take the dog for a long walk and get back and the plenary still hasn’t started - although is imminent so another thread #COP26 #EdinUniCOP26 1/n

Well I can’t spare the time to watch the plenary happening now (the dog demands a walk in the sunshine!) but a short thread on things since my last one at 11am! 1/n
In case you missed it, I think of the most promising things, ok it should have happened along time ago, is the cancelling and closures of coal power plants around the world that is now going to happen -see this excellent analysis from @CREACleanAir 2/n

Well, enough has been happening on the possibly last day of #COP26 #EdinUniCOP26 to justify another (!] thread so here goes 1/n
Another country has joined the pledge to no longer fund overseas fossil fuels- Belgium 2/n
The next COP- COP27 will be in Egypt and the Minister for Environment Dr Yasmine Fouad speaks on her hopes for the conference 3/n
