Hopefully the Queen will make a full recovery, however being a hereditary monarch makes her health relevant to our constitution. There is legitimate speculation that her health is worse that is being reported, with concerns that she may die within the next 12 months.
When that happens Republic will make a statement but will not be campaigning before the funeral. We will pay close attention to public debates and contribute where appropriate and we'll continue to speak up for the right of people to dissent.
That said, we are aware that Charles plans to 'campaign' from the first full day after his mother's death, by touring the country to consolidate his position and get people used to him as monarch as quickly as possible.
After the funeral and up to and during the coronation we will be campaigning continuously with one simple message: It's time to #EndTheMonarchy
For most people the Queen is the monarchy, the monarchy is the Queen. The number of people wondering why we're pandering to Charles, William, Andrew and Edward will only grow, and the argument for a democratic alternative will be more compelling than ever.
During this time we won't hesitate to highlight Charles's 'career' as Prince of Wales, his political meddling, his crank ideas, his hypocrisy on the environment, his abuse of public money and his treatment of Duchy tenants.
We will also point out the danger he represents to the constitution as a meddling king. And why we need fundamental democratic reform that starts with abolishing the monarchy. And, importantly, why that democratic alternative is an exciting prospect for all of us. #EndTheMonarchy
