Been reading about Kashi’s Cosmic Layout & Vastu Shashtra the way its lingams are set, its vigrahas which give it the energy for spiritual center. Kashi is nothing but Shiva’s Yantra with a field of cosmic energy.

For those interested in Kashi Ancient Temples how it was destroyed over ages & rebuilt read the famous book Varanasi Viabhav & there are Professor BP Rana a Professor of BHU who has written on Cosmic Layout of Banaras & the Yatras it had. Enlightening to say the least ! 🙏🏼

The ancient plan of the Vishveshvara temple can also be tested in the light of geometric structure. There existed three basic circles which were homologous to the three phases of life (birth, flourishing, and death- and-rebirth),

further corresponding to the three mythic realms (lokas), viz. earth, sky, and heaven, and three stages of time (kala) – time past, present, and future.

How Kashi evolved Symbolically over Yugas (Simply Amazing !!!)

Kashi is not just a Yantra or Cosmic Design but it is said to be Shiva’s Body. It includes many lingams which are sacred to Shiva including Avimukteshwar Lingam Who is considered to be Guru of Visweshwar whom he visits Daily.

The Sacred Text of 16th Century Kashi Rahasya provides detailed descriptions of Panchkosi Yatra of 88.5 Kms which has 108 Shrines.

Before starting the pilgrimage one has to take a vow (sankalpa) at the shrine of Dhundhi Vinayaka. The KR (3.73) describes Dhundiraja as the beloved child of Bhavani (Parvati) and Sankara (Siva) and adds that when he is propitiated all three are pleased.

Once a vow is taken the pilgrim begins her/his journey by taking a ritually purificatory bath in the Ganga at Manikaranika Ghat.

This is followed by initiation rituals in the shrines and temples of Dhundhiraja, Dandrapani, Kala Bhairva, Annapurna Temple and Visveswara.

The actual form of ritual practice is to worship all the above divinities at one place in the Muktimandapa at (Gyanvapi pavilion) while reciting their names at one site within Visveswara Complex.

The Vyasa directs pilgrims to put few coins above which an areca nut to be put, followed up by putting aksata (rice, sesame, raw sugar and candy) together with Ganga water.

For sankalpa lena the Vyasa recites sacred verse from the KR (10) and pilgrims repeat that:

As per Shashtras, for Sacred Panch Kosi Yatra, the above deities which are located in 4 corners of Kashi Vishwanath mandir complex as Shiv Panchayatans (his family) are to be worshipped together for sacred rituals to begin. This is part of Prof PB Rana Singh’s Book.

This is sacred cosmic geometry of Visvesvar Jyotirling. Really Amazing how ancestors planned temple construction to match what the scriptures mandates coz thats how u maintain the energy & scantity of the Kashi Teerth Shetra.
