To mark #InternationalFraudAwareness week, we are sharing some of our recent work that looks at the impact of fraud, and how far reaching its effects can be.
With coronavirus pandemic exposing the UK's vulnerability to #cyberfraud, our recent report called for a bolder and more coordinated response to the crime, with stronger leadership from government and a clear role for the private sector.
Our recent report on the impact of fraud on UK national security calls for fraud to become a national security priority, backed by a ‘whole of government’ response, a properly resourced and networked policing response, and a greater role for the UK’s intelligence community.
Listen back to another of our #FincialCrimeInsights episodes hosted by @helenacjwood that debates what policing needs to be if it is to tackle current and emerging economic crime threats.
The 2021 @UKPONI Annual Conference gathered established and emerging experts from academia, industry, government and the military to share insights and debate a broad range of civil and military topics.
The emerging experts who presented at the conference have adapted their presentations for this volume of work.

1. A new report by RUSI shows that North Korea is breaking the @UN sanctions that target its nuclear weapon and ballistic missile programmes on an industrial scale. And they are doing it in Chinese waters too.
2. Over 2016 and 2017 the UN gradually banned North Korea from exporting coal as the revenue generated by this is used by North Korea to fund its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programmes.
3. Despite this, the billion-dollar coal export industry continues. RUSI has identified at least 30 North Korean ships conducting 175 journeys between North Korea and the Zhoushan area in China in 2019 and 2020.

@MChalmers_RUSI at @RUSI_org: If we have learnt no other lesson from MDP, it’s that you should not start a defence review without a viable exit strategy - a credible means of bringing it to an end
@MChalmers_RUSI at @RUSI_org: After twelve years between 1998 and 2010 where we did not have enough defence reveries, we may now be in danger of having too many... even if the MDP concludes soon, Defence may find itself pitched into another alongside the 2019 spending review.
We are live tweeting day two of the RUSI Land Warfare Conference #RUSILWC . Follow this thread for coverage of Session 6, 7 & 8.
