screenshot because @conor64 has me blocked, but this is the whole ballgame. the enslavement of blacks is central to america's founding, just like the desire to get out of british oppression. but stories about the former make guys like conor feel bad so he wants u to stop.
conservatives dont want history. they want fairy tales. they want stories about the founders always doing what is right and ignoring all the people they owned. they want an easy kindergarten narrative instead of the reality of liberty but also thousands of enslaved humans.
the founders set up a legendary framework of liberty. they also owned a ton of human beings who did much of the actual work of building this country. for eons we taught history with the former and pretended away the latter. now that the descendants are speaking up its a problem.
think about how many times you've heard about washington freeing his slaves, then think about the fact they werent free until he had died and wrung every last nanosecond of labor out of them. thats the fairytale bullshit we tell ourselves as americans.
even if you buy the self-serving narrative that washington had "reservations" about slavery it doesnt change the reality that he had the bad feels while his enslaved blacks were cooking his food, tilling his fields, changing his shoes. like... it all happened. its fact.
and with washington it matters. because washington is the father of america and the most enduring symbol of america in one human being. and he OWNED A TON OF PEOPLE and that is a core part of him as much as resigning his commission and being first POTUS.

how "neutral" reporting slips in its pov, continued. from this cbs report: biden said he would be normal, but he's not doing this press event. so he's abnormal, just like trump. is the weird message being communicated here.
in his first year in office, trump held *one* official press conference. for another 300+ day stretch his white house held no press briefing. but ya know, this is a huge problem for them.
youll also remember that at the beginning of his presidency, the mainstream press complained it had been "X" days since biden held an official presser, even though through that time he still spoke to the press. and now they complain because he doesnt play footsie like trump did
Republicans are better at slagging republicans than most democrats in congress. One of my favorite things in politics is when Republicans do their presidential primary in S Carolina. It makes Dem on Dem campaigning look like amateur hour.
Back in 2000 Gore and Bradley were having a white wig debate in Dem primary meanwhile in SC, Bush people (Rove) were like “John McCain has a black baby.”
im biased but i feel like libs should do a whole week of elite/liberal detox. watch fox news, wrestling, read right wing sites, etc. then come back to me with your genius ideas of giving people policy papers so they come to rational political conclusions.
im just saying that years of watching wwe prepared me for reporting on trump and the surrounding circus way better than any fancy books i ever read (except maybe the rise and fall of the third reich)
i personally consider myself a pretty middlebrow person. i am no snob and i dont live in the sewer but i have seen both worlds, frequently.
wanted to note this tweet because its something i see a lot on here. look. marjorie greene is not poll testing anything. she's not airing stuff out from a focus group. neither is cruz or cawthorn. you're way way way overthinking this stuff. theyre shitposters. they shit post.
yes, the democratic/liberal message should get better -- or just exist -- but the idea that every gop member is as efficient and with it as the borg is a fantasy. they just throw shit against the wall and hope it sticks. their secret power is most of them are throwing shit.
i believe both sides in america think the other side is way more organized than they truly are, at the base level. the right is more like a bunch of loosely affiliated, hungry drug dealers than they are members of hydra or spectre.
if nyt covered defense like they cover social spending
From 'stealth fighters' to 'drones,' new defense bill funds niche items
Despite the massive size of the US military and the ability to end all known life, the new defense bill includes billions for niche items.
The US nuclear arsenal alone could kill hundreds of millions of people, but a little noticed provision tucked into the legislation by defense industry special interests nonetheless allocates $100 billion for a fighter jet that has never worked.
The United States has more aircraft carriers than any nation on Earth and has more command over the oceans than any army in all recorded history, but lobbyists for defense contractors were able to sneak in a provision for $50 billion worth of drones that are unlikely to be used.
"democrats condemn gop effort to get fbi to ignore threats against parents, teachers" - in my dreams
"as our children return to school after the trump/desantis covid surge, its unconscionable that house republicans are telling the fbi to ignore threats against parents, kids, and schools. its sick and wrong" - this shit writes itself
