After my recent Rittenhouse podcast, some wrote to say they appreciated the focus on the black political situation in the US. For a much deeper dive on the issue, check out my 7-episode series, God’s Socialist: The Rise & Fall of Peoples’ Temple.
It tells the story of Jim Jones, who led over 900 members of his cult to commit mass suicide in the S. American jungle in 1978. What many people don’t know is that 75% of those who died were African Americans who considered themselves revolutionary communists, not cultists.
The trajectory of Jim Jones & his movement from racial justice activism to revolutionary action followed that of the Civil Rights & protest movements in general. It’s a story of idealism, hope, disappointment, rage, madness, and death.
All episodes are available for free on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. They’re also available on the website. martyrmade.com/gods-socialist…

Recently went on a ‘90s movie binge and it truly was the golden age of film. Watched:
Braveheart
Legends of the Fall
13th Warrior
Jurassic Park
Ghost in the Darkness
T2
Rob Roy
Saving Private Ryan
Lord of the Rings started filming in the ‘90s, and is ‘90s in spirit.
The ‘90s were able to create unironic epic adventure in a way the current year usually can’t.
Also:
Heat
Gladiator (overrated, but still)
The Usual Suspects
Even campy holiday movies were great. Jingle All the Way is an almost perfectly constructed film.
My 1-10:
Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent By Design
Wu Tang - 36 Chambers
GZA - Liquid Swords
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Raekwon - Cuban Linx
Doom - Madvillainy
Lauryn Hill - Miseducation
Vinnie Paz - Season of the Assassin
Oh, I forgot El P... pick one: Fantastic Damage or I'll Sleep When You're Dead
Replace DJ Shadow w/one of those El P albums. Because bringing in Shadow opens a whole can of instrumental worms, where I have to include Dilla's Donuts, Blockhead's Music Scene, Boom Bip & DoseOne's Circle (which no one but me likes), Apollo Brown, and Gramatik.
Do you ever wonder why so many Antifa rioters turn out to have such sordid past & present lifestyles? It’s because Antifa consists of small cadres of well-funded activists, but most of its foot soldiers are transient sex offenders, drug addicts, and mentally ill homeless.
Any cop who’s worked Antifa riots up close will confirm: The activists go around handing out $20s to people to throw a brick through a window, or a shit bomb at a cop, or to attack someone. Degenerates & criminals are attracted because it’s well-known there’s money to be made.
It’s an old story. The 1970s radicals at Lincoln Detox used access to drugs to get patients to carry out actions for the underground. In Germany, the Socialist Patients Collective was a group of shrinks radicalizing the mentally ill and feeding them into the Baader Meinhof Gang.
Give @AnaKasparian credit for her correction. But if a news personality with her reach was unaware of such an easily- and widely-available fact, what else are people misinformed about? Here are the facts about what happened in Kenosha:
THREAD
@AnaKasparian 1. Kenosha PD receive a domestic violence call involving a man they know has a felony warrant out for sexual assault & domestic violence. 2. Upon arrival, the woman alerts them that the suspect is taking her children, and already has them in his car.
1/x
3. The suspect is armed with a knife. 4. Police try to effect an arrest. He resists. They take him to the ground, but he fights them off and gets up. 5. Police deploy tasers twice, but the suspect rips them out, unaffected. 6. The suspect is still armed with a knife.
1. Pereira def Michailidis by KO/TKO (-155)
Pereira is a Glory champ who beat Adesanya 2x. UFC is clearly setting up to sell that fight, and wouldn't put him in a fight they didn't think he could win. He's -250 to win, but you can get -155 or so to win by KO/TKO.
2. Edgar def. Vera by DEC (+185)
Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but Vera's wrestling is unimpressive and he's no KO artist. I'd give at least even money that @FrankieEdgar outwrestles Vera to a decision win.
My sympathy for unions largely applies to the private sector. Public sector unions do not negotiate in good faith w/management for fair profit sharing. They buy politicians & finance campaigns to give them what they want, and to take on debt or raise taxes if money runs out.
I make an exception for local police unions. They share many of the same problems as other public sector unions - and gave some unique ones as well - but strong unions seem necessary to protect cops from demagogues & politically-driven witch hunts (it’s a hard question, though).
