Saying the best outcome is for the bill to be defeated. That the bill creates uncertainty in the state and will impact the recovery.
Catherine "at the start of this week it was urgent but now its not, sure, but I wonder if I'll get a phone call to discuss anything. I wasn't one of the ones getting that call last night".
HAHAHA Symes is really spinning this. "An independent member who has not been involved recently has indicated their interest in being involved and has not yet been briefed on the bill". Making it out like they're delaying to brief Adem. 🀣
Crozier "this is a farce".
That's pretty much it.
PSA: technically they could continue this debate today/tomorrow and Parl could vote on amendments and totally change the bill. The risk for them is there's a majority against what they want, so the bill wouldn't be what they want.
The size of the humble pie some of their more notoriously petty and narky MPs are eating right now is absolutely incredible 🀣
These people stand for nothing but their own interests.
Ondarchie "let me quote from the AG from Tuesday" πŸ˜‚
The Libs are revelling in this.
Rich-Phillips says he's interested to see how the three crossbenchers, who voted for this to be urgent on Tuesday, will vote now. Big lol.
Bach calls for the bill to go ahead today "let's test the true position of the house".
HAHA the crossbench 3 who voted with the government 48hours ago that the bill was 'urgent', just voted to delay the debate.
The rest of the chamber voted to push it through πŸ˜‚ except Catherine who did a speech saying she expects community consultation as part of the delay.
It's official. The pandemic bill is now off the table for passing this week.
** Adem was not in the chamber for this vote. The govt + crossbench had the majority at that point, so it was always going to delay **

Current Pandemic Bill situation🧡
In short, we're all in the Adem show now. He's got the govt by the balls & basically the future of the state in his hands. People seem to have underestimated just how much of a position he holds here, which we saw a taste of this morning. Let's clear up a few things.
Adem has repeatedly said the bill needs to be amended, it's trash. He never said "kill the bill", he's said "kill that version of the bill". Given SOE is no longer an option & the other states retain ongoing powers, most MPs accept something (far, far less awful) could exist.

According to Dan the appropriate response to public concerns from the Ombudsman that detention orders under the pandemic bill weren't able to be independently judicially reviewed was "well she isn't a judge". #qt
Dan once again calling every person at the front of Parliament "a violent extremist".
Within a minute then went on to say that Victoria is definitely not divided, everyone is united.

Dan "What I'll say is this. Today's a great day and I don't think anything should detract from what Victoria has acheived". Not even trying to pretend this announcement is a deflection.
On getting the bill through: "let's have the most respectful, most inclusive process we can, that's the way we operate".
Takes a special type to say that bs with a straight face.
"I wouldn't want anything to take away today from the story being of Victorian's being proud & the govt being grateful to them". Subtle πŸ™„

The Upper House is due to start sitting in 30mins & there's still no clarity on what the govt plans to do. If they can't pass the bill now their options are to continue debate & adjourn to next sitting week, or just pass a motion to adjourn to next sitting week. That's kind of it
Next dates are 30th Nov - 2nd Dec, 2 weeks before SOE ends.
Govt is going to have a VERY hard time justifying why SARC shouldn't review the bill in that time. There's literally no good reason. Interesting watching the hysterics in the media about 'all restrictions could end(!!)'.
Yes that could happen or, excessively more likely, they spend 2 weeks negotiating to get a vote & then try again. Can't let that get in the way of a good screamy headline though πŸ˜‚ the bill may be blocked for now but this isn't done yet.

Completely agree. Normally don't comment on this but it's just getting ridiculous at this point. Comments in detail below.
Most of this comes from micro-fringe groups in Telegram, this one seems to be an MFR offshoot (explains a bit) which is where the protest organisers come from since the govt started having vicpol arrest any publicly named regular citizen daring to plan a protest in 2020.
So it started getting pushed to the fringe/Tele. Since then behind the scenes theres a revolving door of big egos vs well-intentioned ppl who get fed up with the lack of coherence to result in protests we see that allow extreme fringe views to talk due to lack of clear leadership

Pandemic bill debate to kick off, watch live here (select Legislative Council): parliament.vic.gov.au/video-and-audi…
AG Symes kicks with "the bill has been available for 20 days" (like this is something to be proud of & not a violation of process) & questions why the Opp want an extra few days for debate. Says she 'wants to get on with debating it'. Mm not really how democracy is meant to work.
Oh dear. The govt is trying to invoke an 'urgent bill' clause.
It's only been used 9 times in history in the Upper House since 1996. This would assist them to gag debate and ram the bill through.
