Today the Longevity Biotechnology Association ( @LBA_longevity ) was launched by a group of scientists, CEOs, and investors to foster collaboration in the #longevity field.

We will be strongest when we band together, here's why 1/12🧵 Image
I love the incredible community of leaders in our field - brilliant people from all over the world, diverse backgrounds, different ages - united around a single mission:

Reducing the incredible suffering experienced by older people and the loss of the bereaved
2/12
The progress and revolution in longevity has come not from a single govenment plan, but by scrappy academics making discoveries and taking chances, and now scrappy startup companies bringing those discoveries to patients

We work on different IP, under different banners
3/12
But we work with a shared mission, and we all know that however we as a field can succeed in that mission, it makes each group more successful - a rising tide that will raise all ships
4/12
One major topic where we see the opportunity for greater collaboration is in the sharing of data that will ultimately lead to approvable endpoints for running multi-disease prevention trials (i.e., trials to increase healthy longevity)
5/12
Every group working on translational geroscience wants this to exist, but few (especially early on) can afford the costs of building a platform to create their own clinical biomarkers. Furthermore, if every group had their own biomarkers, it would hurt the field
6/12
A shared clinical pathway for aging drugs is the opposite of a tragedy of the commons.
It's a Comedy of the Commons, 😅where everyone wants to take care of something but there just aren't the resources to contribute to it.
7/12
Prevention of heart disease benefitted enormously from having the field align around cholesterol and blood pressure as key risk factors - the same will happen with multi-disease prevention as we reveal more patterns undergirding the risk of the diseases of aging
8/12
By walking together with a shared mission, setting the standards for what should be measured in longevity trials, sharing data, and defining excellence in the field, the LBA will serve an important role in bringing transformative medicines to people everywhere
9/12
I couldn't be more proud to be joined by my friends @kpfortney, @NirBarzilaiMD, @JimMellonBooks, & Mehmood Khan who helped launch the LBA today in London.

And @SergeyYoung200 @davidasinclair @bettslacroix @LauraDeming and others who couldn't be here today
10/12
If you want to be included - get in touch through the LBA website - right now membership is invite only from an existing member - longevitybiotech.org
11/12
I can't think of a higher value than combining great entrepreneurship with a collaboration around a shared mission.

Much more to come.

Onwards.
