I used to work at YouTube doing virtual reality. There I met some amazing people, including @debfx. He showed me a demo for a light field VR rendering project that he was working on.
For those that do not know, a light field is a mathematical description of a volume of light
It is understanding every ray of light in a scene
Why is this so powerful?
Light is the medium of our consciousness. It is what connects us to each other and the universe
By creating a perfect light field you can create a perfect (or near perfect) re-image or meta-image of our own world in virtual reality
This technology at first fascinated me, so many possibilities, but then it frightened me.
It frightened me because I saw a world where we are disconnected from nature through our devices and technology
And this leap to VR will accelerate that
We are opening up a new world beyond our wildest imaginations with virtual realities
The first time I tried Googles internal demo I felt like I was actually there
Like my limbic system just accepted it was real
We are moving towards a brave new world with this technology
A world where you will have everything your mind desires and everything you could ever dream of
Heaven on earth
Yet, there is no good without evil
There are two futures ahead of us — one that is controlled by a small group of people that give us the world and can take it from us whenever
And a world where people have individual property and rights
The constitution being purchased by @ConstitutionDAO started as a joke
But it became clear very quickly that this joke held so much symbolic weight behind it
Rising political tensions will have something to precipitate on, using a token for governance to potentially edit one of the most fundamental and important pieces of political writing ever
Benjamin Franklin is a personal hero of mine. Yes, he owned slaves
Yet, he freed them by the end of his life and he started activism to try to free all slaves
This was very radical for his times
Most people of privilege today thinks that they would not own slaves if they lived in those times, but the truth is they likely would
Most people think they would speak up in Nazi Germany, but the truth is most people wouldn’t.
Most people think they would speak up if our fundamental liberties as free people were being infringed upon
But most people are not
Please, stand with me in saying that the constitution of the United States is an important historical artifact and should not be modified, especially in a symbolic moment of it “entering the metaverse”
We are at the crossroads of two worlds ahead of us
The powerful, the ones with most the capital would prefer a centralized world where they are the owners, and “you will own nothing and be happy”
I do not believe in that world. I believe in a world of private ownership, of transparent power structures, decentralized keys of power, economic inclusion and freedom of speech and organization
Please stand with me and show your support. This may seem like small potatoes now, but these DAOs will be the ownership structures of the future, and the first mover sets a precedent for how others will act.
Let’s set a good precedent with @ConstitutionDAO by preserving history.
History is often written by the winners and heavily editorialized.
The blockchain is a source of truth and transparency — and most of all it is a ledger that cannot be changed once a block is created
Let’s make this first block of the symbolic representation of the constitution be true to its current writing
And let’s convert many of its current writing into smart contracts
Once those laws are on the blockchain they are immutable, they will exist forever
That doesn’t mean that people must follow those laws forever, they can make their own rules and follow those — ultimately you can construct your own incentives
This is why smart contracts are so powerful — and with great power comes great responsibility
Let’s be good stewards of decentralized technology, and show the world that this future is in *their* hands
Not in someone else’s
Thank you for reading, I really appreciate you if you took the time to read my story and understand it
These themes are very opaque because the technologies are very complicated
I want do my part to shine a light on where we could be heading and why this moment is so important
I’d also like to thank my family and loved ones for supporting me through a very emotional and difficult time
Being a core contributor @ConstitutionDAO and seeing all these things from the inside really took a toll on my emotions, but I’m doing better

It’s important to clarify that digital property won’t just exist in the VR world, it will extend into our physical world as well
Let me explain
I used to work at Waymo and I got a peak into what the future of robotics will look like.
There is a similar theme where at first I was fascinated, and then I was worried
For those that don’t know, Waymo is Google’s autonomous vehicle project
They have cars loaded with sensors that can map and navigate their surroundings — often better than a human
Why was I worried? Because the technology is so powerful, it has the potential to replace all human drivers — and replace them with robots
And these robots would all follow the same rules, better than any human, centralized control
The first moved in the autonomous vehicle space will get a massive network effect advantage — whoever unlocks the secret of general autonomy first wins
And they will likely own all the taxis
Not only will they replace taxis though, but long-haul truck drivers, package delivery, warehouse logistics, everything that requires something to move from point A to point B
And it will do it without complaint, and without pushback — it will execute orders like no employee ever could
Yet… what happens if they cancel a rider? Say, because they are not up to date on the latest health regulations
In just a few lines of code and update to a database, now you cannot access this whole network of real life digital-property
With a press of a button they can take away… everything, because in the future it will all be connected. The internet of things.
So don’t think that digital property rights don’t matter if you don’t buy the latest Apple AR glasses, or Facebook Metaverse Glasses
It will affect your ability to do basic things in the real world as well
Your only option at that point would be to live out in the country away from everyone — excluded from society
So what’s the cure? Again, digital property rights. Digital property you cannot confiscate. Real ownership
The issue though, is that each of these robots will be incredibly expensive, so one person owning it will be totally prohibitive
So, we’ll have to learn how to share
Yet this won’t be sharing in the sense that no one owns it, it’s sharing in the sense that multiple people own it and govern it together.
Does this sound familiar to you? It should
This is digital ownership rights using decentralized technology — here it is again, offering a solution.
This potential rewriting of the constitution in the “metaverse” to set a precedent for collectively governed digital assets is huge
And it’s huge not only for jpegs and silly stuff that looks like a pump and dump scheme — it’s huge for deciding what kind of shared ownership do we want
Top down
Bottom up
Top down, unfortunately, is indistinguishable from communism. It is enforced sharing, and if you step out of line they will take everything from you.
Bottom up collectives coming together over shared values and interdependence, working together in a decentralized and autonomous way — this is what I stand for
It goes all the way back to the money supply and it being controlled in private hands, versus what the founding fathers had proposed initially: no centralized banks
The founding fathers declared independence from the centralized British empire and their centralized banking system — no where in the constitution does it say there will be a federal reserve
The federal reserve is a private institution. With roots going back to the European banks funding both sides of wars between the British and the French. Profiting over political divides
We are seeing a similar threat today. History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes. Not many people can see into the opaque technologies of virtual reality, autonomous robotics, and smart contracts — I’m trying to elucidate what I can for you
If you have made it this far then you clearly care about this stuff. Feel free to get into contact, we need all the support we can get to fight the good fight
I appreciate you all, thank you if you made it this far. ❤️++
Now I’ve outlined the problem pretty well, but what’s the solution?
Enter the Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have a very unusual governance structure. Why is one of the biggest football teams in such a small town?
The Green Bay Packers set up a shared ownership governance structure where the citizens of Green Bay could govern what happens to the team
Governance rights are non-transferable, so they stay inside of families, and are only transferred in the event of death
Therefore the rights don’t necessarily have economic value in that you can sell them on the market, but they give you the ability to vote on key decisions like: Who is the general manager? Will the team relocate?
On top of this, no one person can have more than 4% of the total vote, so it’s decentralized
This offers a real-life solution to shared digital-property governance
It is decentralized, it is not a security (not transferable), but it gives you the right to govern a piece of a collectively owned thing
And owning it can give you benefits, like free tickets or reduced drink and food prices
.@ConstitutionDAO should take this proposal seriously, and see if they can do something like this. Their precedent is incredibly important.
Not only that, but we can formalize the constitution’s current frameworks using smart contracts right now — in particular the rules around how to edit it
We can formalize the rules for editing the constitution and put them on the blockchain as closely to the original interpretation as possible.
It will likely need some guidance by people on the Supreme Court
We can work *with* the existing government to make it even more trust-less and decentralized. This would be a huge step forward in improving how our government works — more efficient, transparent, auditable, and inclusive
Ok… going to take a break now. This is a big tweet storm, I’ve said most of what I want, but there might be another wave. We’ll see

“You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're all doing what we can”
“But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait“
“You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We'd all love to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free your mind instead”
People in @ConstitutionDAO core contributor private chats should not be allowed to bet on prediction markets about whether they will be successful.
If anyone has private info about whales or other addresses, they should be very careful about putting money in prediction markets.
To be clear I didn’t see anyone discussing buying into those prediction markets
But there could be information in the private channels that is not publicly available that affect outcomes
Crypto can be like the Wild West
Some securities laws exist for good reason (others, like number of investors allowed in a round at a time, or aspects of accreditation maybe less so, in my opinion)
I wrote this article, knowing that it might cause me to be removed -- and announced it publicly without any permission
The core team voted on me being removed, and I resigned.
I'd like to explain why I wrote it:
I wish I could have reached consensus with the rest of the core contributors before posting that, but I wrote that article at 2am, and I reached out to everyone in the core team who happened to be online (only 2 others)
I acted unilaterally because I thought that it was *extremely* important to get that idea out there in time, since we are so limited on time.
The idea itself isn't anything novel, anyone could have had it, and people have been doing it for a long time.
