The #Metaverse is here, whether you like it or not.

Proof?

Bytedance, Nvidia, Facebook are pouring millions into building the Metaverse.

Why do you need to care?

In 20 years, you might work, play, learn, and socialize in the Metaverse.

Let’s take a walk in the future 🧵
The Metaverse is here, but how soon will this sci-fi concept become the reality that we envision?

No one knows yet.

No individual or giant can build the Metaverse, as it requires the ability for users to be able to move from one place to another across worlds.
The Metaverse is here but it requires collaboration.

Take a look at this @NewzooHQ Metaverse landscape, and what's changing:

Facebook released Horizon workrooms
Fortnite Game thrived with its virtual concert stage
Nvidia shares its vision of an Omniverse for developers
The Metaverse is here and spurring innovation:

@productfy is building 'DeFi for traditional finance'
@supersocialplay is building on the Roblox Metaverse
@dnablock is making metaverse avatars more inclusive
@AXTG2021 is advancing the NFT universe w/their @ethfund2021 launch
The Metaverse is here but it can no longer depend on the public Internet.

Interactive, interconnected, real-time experiences require a network built for today’s world.

Since that's exactly what we've been working on @subspacepowered, let's talk about it👇
One of the most important Metaverse thinkers/writers is @ballmatthew.

He talked about networking challenges in an important piece titled “Networking and the Metaverse”

3 key areas influence constraints/growth in how we design, use, and imagine Metaverse platforms & products.
The Metaverse requires bandwidth.

This refers to how much data can be transmitted over a unit of time. A good example of this is in how Microsoft Flight Simulator uses streaming to display a mirror world.

Do you know which one is real and which one is @MSFSofficial?
The Metaverse requires low latency.

“The biggest challenge in networking is also its least understood: latency.”

As users, we sense synchronization issues naturally. While the Metaverse isn’t a fast-twitch AAA game, its social nature/desired importance requires low latency.
The Metaverse requires reliability.

“Our ability to shift to virtual labor & education is directly dependent on the reliable quality of service.

This spans overall uptimes plus the consistency of other attributes such as download/upload bandwidth, and latency." - @ballmatthew
Today’s networking challenges are a great reminder that real-time apps require a stable/reliable connection at the fastest speed possible.
