Back in late 2018, I had never written anything online.

Fast forward 3 years, and I passed 100M impressions.

What most people don’t know?

I use the same process to write every time.

A short 🧵
Step 1: Ideate rapidly

What’s the fastest way to come up with ideas?

Use systems.

I created my own content matrix in Notion.

- Choose a topic
- Match it to a style
- Write a quick headline
- Repeat until you have 10 ideas

Much of writing is about systems. Image
Step 2: Choose a solid format

Struggling to format your writing?

There are so many tools out there to help.

I am loving @typeshare_co

They have beautiful templates built right in for inspiration.

No better way to get started. Image
Step 3: Edit ruthlessly

No easier way to lose a reader than unclear writing.

So, once I'm done, I pass my writing through @HemingwayApp

It tells me:

- The grade level
- Poor word choices
- Poor sentence structure

Paste in your writing and see where you can simplify. Image
Step 4: Distribute widely

99% of people I talk to waste distribution opportunities.

You've already written something.

Why not share it everywhere that's relevant?

I use @hypefury to send my content to Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

The tool is powerful. Image
Step 5: Stay consistent

Writing consistently is the most important step of all.

Here's the TL;DR:

• Ideate with topics/structures
• Format with tools like Typeshare
• Edit with tools like Hemingway
• Distribute with tools like HypeFury

Today, my little one-person business crossed $10M in total revenue.

It took 2,119 days, I ran zero ads & I operate at a ~89% margin.

Here are the 23 steps of my wild & strange journey:

Hope they are helpful to someone ↓
1/ Created lots of noise

When I was starting, I looked at attention as my friend.

I wrote content daily before I even had a business, just to find my voice.

I started on LinkedIn, talking about building a SaaS unicorn as the CRO.
2/ Honed in on signals

Inside all of that noise? Signal.

Sometimes I bombed, and sometimes I struck a chord.

The more I looked at what resonated, the more I doubled down.

This allowed me to understand what people cared about.

So, I kept writing & talking about it.

2024 as a solopreneur:

- $4.15M+ in revenue
- Operated at ~86% margins
- Launched 2 new products
- 177K new followers on LinkedIn
- 43K new followers on 𝕏
- 700 new 5-star testimonials
- Spoke at three events
- Traveled domestically 6x
- Traveled internationally 2x
- Exercised 330+ days
- Walked ~2,000+ miles & 5M steps
- Lost 13 pounds
- Took my wife to lunch 60x
- Visited 10+ breweries
- Moved abroad for 90 days
The two things I'm most proud of are the percentage of overall 5-star reviews (99.43%) and the amount of time I spent with my wife this year.

One great business win and one great personal win.

Here are some other key lessons I learned in 2024:
1. Simplify everything

The more complex I made my business, the worse it performed.

When I zoomed out and simplified overly complex things, everything worked better.

How to build a $1,700/month side business for $29/month.

Here's the entire 12-step business plan for you:

1. Clean up your X profile to reflect what you do for people.
2. Create daily content that talks about one specific challenge you solve.

3. When people ask questions about your content, reply back or send them a DM.

4. Ask them if they'd like to talk for free to see if you can help.
5. Do 15-20 calls to better understand how to solve their problem.

6. Create a process you can complete in 7 days or so.

7. Then go to Stan Store and open up a free 30-day trial.

How to make your first $1 online:
1. Talk to people

You can't make a dollar without understanding people's problems.

Go talk to your prospective customers.

3-5 conversations per day about their biggest and most frustrating challenges.
2. Grow a small audience

Once you've talked to people, next up is sharing info they care about.

Post daily about the problems you heard and how you think they can solve them

Show them you care about solving the problems you learned about!
