When Sulaiman Ibn Abdul Wahhab [d.1794] commenced his response to his younger brother’s invitation letter, he purposefully used the same ‘salam’ used by the Prophet ﷺ to the False Prophet, Musailimah: “Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance.”

This demonstrates the subtle wisdom of our Sheikh ul-Islam, Sulaiman, may Allah have mercy on him, and the gravity of the situation that the ulema faced: namely, resisting and refuting the call of MIAW, who was seen as a false prophet, and his organisation a cult.

“[The Wahhabis] oppose Muslim Orthodoxy and the madhabs while leading the Ummah astray, declaring the blood & wealth of Muslims halal for spilling and seizure. This group took filthy, dark doubts & used them to surround people.”

Imam Dawud Al-Khalidi (d.1881) was a grand Hanbali theologian of Baghdad. So profound in learning, he was given authorisation to teach all Islamic sciences. He also preached to Christians, 12er Shia & refuted the Wahhabis in his: “Al Minhat ul-Wahbiyya fi Radd il Wahhabiyya.”

“Ibn Abdul Wahhab has declared [Muslims] to be kafir and… their blood and wealth licit for spilling and seizure... May Allah curse whoever has this creed, for indeed, whoever declared a believer to be a kafir has already committed kufr.” ~ Hanbali Sage, Hasan ash-Shatti (d.1858)

“Sulaiman, the brother of Mu􏰂ammad was also opposed to his mission. He refuted him with verses of the Qur’ān and h􏰂ādīth... However, Allah protected Sulaiman from the evil and deception of his brother.”

Ibn Abdul Wahhab rejected the statements of all scholars “other than Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim, despite the fact that the sayings of these two figures contradicted what he understood.”

“If [MIAW] was unable to kill openly, he would send someone to assassinate him in their bed or in the marketplace at night, since he judged whoever contradicted him with takfir & legalised their killing.”

“He [MIAW] does not possess one characteristic of the people of ijtihad. By Allah, indeed he does not possess one tenth! Yet he is opening his mouth and speaking a great deal of ignorance!”
