As much as the City's vaccine mandate is about protecting City workers and the public, it is also about ensuring the continued operation of City services. #COVID19 has caused operational impacts that every resident has experienced. A thread 🧵👇🏽
Across all departments, nearly 1,300 City employees have been infected with #COVID19.
Since July 2020, we experienced more than 1,100 delayed routes in trash collection, which impacted over 1.3 million City residents, some on multiple occasions. This means nearly every resident in the City has experienced delays in trash collection due to #COVID19.
@SanDiegoPD has had to suspend its police academy operations on two occasions and @SDFD has had to temporarily close two fire academies and make changes in operational protocols when over 30 personnel were in isolation at once due to positive #COVID19 tests.
Requiring City employees to get vaccinated is a critical step to make sure we can provide essential City services and keep our City employees and the public safe. The way out of this pandemic is through vaccines – and the City of San Diego will lead by example. #ForAllofUs
