Who are we? At the highest level, we’re the defenders of liberal democracy & constitutional government in the face of illiberal currents. Nationalists think the only way to win is to grip the levers of power, expand gov’t & wield it against political enemies. We reject that.
We also defend free enterprise and generally believe that individuals and the enterprises they create are innovative and powerful things that have the power to do immense good for the country and the world. We aren’t enemies of the private sector.
We also believe in the defense of individual rights as enshrined in the Constitution, even when the exercise of those rights leads to statements and activities with which we might individually disagree. The rights themselves and human liberty are more important.
Free thought and expression and worship is also important. We believe in the multiplicity of the American character. It isn’t one religion, or one race, or one culture—it’s a mutual commitment to a shared set of liberal values and the rule of law. Out of many, one.
We also believe in truth at all costs. Lies are never worth it. They corrode the souls of those who speak them and they weaken the country. Truth makes us stronger.
We believe in a lot of other things and we don’t all agree on all things—but the above unites us and distinguishes us from the rest of the GOP and the illiberal left right now. Join this lane! All are welcome.
