In this thread... some important information about our @tmj4 coverage of the tragedy at the Waukesha Christmas Parade, including choices over video and potential suspect information.

VIDEO: We do have more video of the incident than we are sharing on our broadcasts. We are working to balance our duty to share what happened, with sensitivity to the victims of this tragedy and to our audience.
WHO DID IT: I do not know why @WaukeshaPD is calling the person they have in custody a "person of interest" at this point, as opposed to "suspect." We are using their language to describe that person until authorities say otherwise.
Police often, for investigative purposes, are cautious in what they immediately release. We are aware of the name floating around and that person's criminal history. When we confirm that information with police, we will share it. PD says news conference at 1:00 PM.

IN THIS THREAD: an answer to the question many are asking about why the suspect in #waukeshaChristmasParade tragedy was not held in this case without bail. I know we see that move a lot on @lawandordertv but it's not that simple. Image
I connected with both an active local judge, and local defense attorney who confirm it is possible to hold someone without bail in Wisconsin, but it's judicially tricky. There are burdensome legal hurdles.
In this case, prosecution requested and court commissioner granted, an unreachably high bail ($5 million... same as Jeffery Dahmer got) to achieve the same end more expediently.
