in our yard
many flowers
in
many sizes
colours and smells
some still holding fast
hoping that my aunt reaches them
to grace her lord’s feet
or adorn her hair
both just for a day
until they meet
others who have already given up
strewn on the ground
2/4
a flower
appears to be floating
static
in thin air
looking closer I see
it’s stuck in a
spider’s web
like an unfinished poem
or is it just
another dangling conversation
3/4
it’s so quite
i can hear myself think
my aunt enters
the yard
the flowers start smiling
and then the
“Poder” heralds his arrival
my aunt hands over money
like she always has
i scurry to pick up "pois"
and
hope to score
some "kakanas"
like i always have

Avanti was born on 25.11.08. I remember she was kinda pink, bathed in some kind of greenish liquid and extremely beautiful. It is a moment that stays with every parent I guess; the first time you see your child.

We had absolutely no clue about what was unfolding in South Mumbai — no TV in the hospital. I remember wondering that something seemed off, there was hardly any traffic

A thread on a excerpt from the book - glimpses of world history by Jawaharlal Nehru. He quotes some aspects of the Arthashastra in context of how a king should behave.

work, for public work could not suffer or await a king's pleasure-
He explains - It is interesting, however to see that the idea of kinship in ancient India meant service of the people. There was no divine right of kings, no autocratic power. And if the king misbehaved,

Jawaharlal Nehru must have been naughty as a boy; obstinate, perplexed, chivalrous and cheerful. He did not change. If he were not a political leader or PM, he would have discovered India more,

written more books and gathered more royalties. If he were not writing books, he would have kept himself busy, swapping flies and catching butterflies. They came in endless succession, from morning till late in the night. The more he swapped the flies, the more they came

to trouble him. The smile changed into a frown, the chin stood out more dauntlessly; he looked perplexed and thoughtful. But he asked the world to hit him hard because he was still the naughty boy who could take it.
And it was safe to hit him hard because he never hit back.
